Your videos seriously need more views and engagement. Far too many videos on TH-cam are out there teaching incorrect mechanics on walking. I don't blame the people who try walking forefoot-first and find that to somehow be more comfortable, but as you said, there has to be something wrong with how the rest of their body moves in the first place which made them want to reconsider their foot placement.
Not to generalize, but some of these vloggers advocating for forefoot landing on EVERYTHING might have an agenda to promote or sell minimalist footwear. The drawback to that is of course misinformation on correct natural movement.

Thanks for the comment. I do recognize that some of what I offer may be more challenging than some are looking for on TH-cam. But things are growing. You are right that some seem to be using the topic to promote minimalist shoes, but you can actually do that without promoting incorrect foot strike.

excellent lesson. it will take a lot of effort to understand the interconnection between core and ankle but it appears to be a highly rewarding task. thx

Fantastic video Todd. I cannot emphasise enough that for anyone who is carrying an injury, it is very easy to deploy compensatory movements within the gait cycle. Being armed with the correct techniques sets out a methodology to re-establish correct movement and firing patterns. An excellent foundation for doing this. Thank you Todd.

Great video. I thought to excercise my ankles with the support of my upper body. There is a section in the video where you talked about different section on the foot placement is determined by the core. Is there a videos that targets that? Would make an great excercise video. Thanks always for sharing your knowledge.

Hmmm, there's something I never thought much about till now. This is a problem that goes back decades, my whole adult life. I'll be out walking and my ankle (I think) seizes up. If I slow right down and focus on relaxing the ankle it quickly loosens up but it makes me realize that, for some reason I don't understand, I clench my feet. It's more likely to happen with certain shoes (like my beloved Stan Smith's) than with others. Doesn't seem to be a question of fit. Any thoughts?
I've been watching your channel for a while now and you amaze me with the complexity of walking. How is it possible to be so awkward with something that should come naturally?

The ankles will respond reflexively to try and counterbalance your body at all times to keep you upright. If you are doing something that might throw your balance off, that could be triggering your ankles to stiffen up. I would slow down and focus on the proper movement from the core as you walk. Stiffness reduces as the clarity of movement increases. I think it is not surprising that people have difficulty with optimal walking technique. Walking requires a very complex system of subconscious, conscious, and reflexive actions. Most people are able to accomplish the basic tasks of getting around but may be missing the mark on some of the more complex tasks, like fluidity and reduced impact. Solving those issues would not really be necessary for evolution, as long as people could walk well enough to stay alive and reproduce.
