    Okay, some people in this comment section are trying to ask questions because the genuinely want to know. But *so many* of these comments are trying to point out inconsistencies (that aren't there) and acuse the makers of this of being careless or incorrect. The alarm clock was vibrating, she could have been receiving a face time or text, she saw the police cars light in the rearview mirror, and some deaf people are mute while others can talk or personally prefer not to. Please think before you type.

      Mayo Colvin building on that in my experience (I've met a few deaf people) the deaf people who can't speak usually are the ones who have been deaf since birth so they never learned to speak. But people who have gone deaf by other means and know how to talk usually just say stuff and have people write down their responses. I met a guy who just carried around a notepad and handed it to you after he said something.

    • @jonny11995
      @jonny11995 6 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      the alarm clock also emits a bright light similar to if someone shined a torch in your eyes or some one was taking pictures you may be asleep but after a while, you'd notice. The only flaw I see is in one scene she tells a guy that he doesn't need to speak really slowly and forced yet in the next scene she says she can't understand the police man, after saying she knew how to read lips in the previous scene, I know it's difficult reading random peoples lips but they were stereotypical lines police say when being pulled over. Once again she could have signed at him he wouldn't understand but maybe he'd get the hint :P

    • @kayleighwolf976
      @kayleighwolf976 5 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      Well, it's not that easy. Also you would have to be really good at acting. Because it is annoying when people over exaggerate what deaf people do and what they think they need to do to help the deaf person to hear.
      1) Over exaggerate their lips
      2) space out their words too much 3)being really loud with their voices.
      Never ever do those three things. Ever. Also people would
      1) be annoyed that you can't hear them
      2) give up after one or two tries of repeating a sentence
      3) Get angry with you and blame it on you
      4) be a jerk
      5) act like they are smarter and say that you should *"LISTEN"*
      6) say never mind

    For those who don't understand why those who are hearing impaired make ”weird” faces and a lot of exaggerated gestures, its because, in a world where visuals are one of the only ways to communicate, visual expressions are our version of, tone of voice. It tells us the context of the conversation that we can hear but rather see. It's like body language X10. Expression is everything.

      Boyerz Urashima Yeah my cousin was surprised when I told her sign language isn't international. I told her sign is just like any other language, It has many different branches. The sign language most people see is American sign but that's only a small fraction of the sign language community.

    Interesting. I had a deaf roomate back at University. You can't always assume everyone can hear well or hear at all, but usually if it's something really important I tap the person on the shoulder to gain their attention. Otherwise I let people be. It's fun to see people talk in sign language!! Also I usually always carry my phone with me in case a communication issue comes up, or even signing on notepad apps if communication has to be written out. But it's amazing to see the world in this perspective! All the more respect!

    As a late deafened individual I can say these things from experience, there are varying degrees of deafness. some people are deaf in 1 ear and full hearing in the other, wile others have no hearing what so ever and no amplification will help while some people have cochlear implants or hearing aids but that only helps again to a certain degree. It all depends on that individual's loss. I am almost completely deaf without my hearing aids in and when I do have them in everything is amplified to the same degree. It is nothing like how I remember natural hearing. Those of us who have hearing aids and cochlear implants are able to listen to music and talk on the phone or stream media through these devices. Not all deaf people talk some talk and some don't this all depends on a persons preference. I only talk because I was hearing for 20 years before my loss. I much prefer to sign but not everyone knows ASL (American Sign Language) which is my countries official signed language. Some of us deaf or hard of hearing (HoH) individuals only talk to a select few people on the phone because they know how to speak in order for us to be able to understand them. Some deaf/HoH people read lips while others don't. Please stop making accusations and assumptions and research things. If ever curious ask a deaf or HoH individual. I am sure they would love to help educate you on our culture. It is pretty amazing and so are the people.

    I have a deaf classmate. She is a girl and we are on 6th grade, the average age of a 6th-grader is about 11-12. She is 16 and I'm 12. She doesn't know how to sign language, which confused me. Her family has money and I didn't know why she didn't know how to sign language. All of us can hear and talk. During classes she just sit and wait there until it's done. She doesn't understand anyone except if you put it in a piece of paper, or imitate it with your hands, and say it outloud. She can hear a teeny tiny bit. She is so nice and friendly to me. When she's going to graduate, she said she's being homeschooled by her grandmother. She seems sad, and I feel bad for her.

I guess though, what you're after is what it's like but I can't do that. I can't, because it is something that I grew up with. To make you understand for yourself, I suppose the only way would to be able to preceive sound. But me saying that is an equivalent to, "A blind person seeing." It's hard to actually explain. Although, hearing really is like magic.

    Comments you will find...
    How did the clock wake her up?
    Answer: Read the subtitles, and the alarm clock was vibrating and flashing lights
    Why would someone call her phone?
    Answer: A random caller.
    Video calls like Facetime or a text message
    Why cant deaf people talk?
    Answer: If they were deaf from birth, they never learned how to talk. If they were deaf from middle lf their life, they probably pronouce words wrong, say the wrong thing, and when they learn new words they dont know how to pronouce it. Its better to not talk if you're deaf to let them know you're deaf
    Another video would be a day through a blind person's eyes
    She is sexy/cute/beautiful
    Answer: You're damn right

      It’s not required or better for a deaf person to not talk some times they’re born deaf and don’t talk but some go to speech therapy, and some now how to talk but prefer not to. It’s really up to preference.

      +Jp.Girl How many times have you met a deaf person compared to a Spanish speaker? So no, it doesn't make "much more sense." I think there should be the option of having sign language in high school, but Spanish and French are better options if we're talking about something you'd be able to use every day. With deaf people, we are at least able to communicate through writing but we can't write in English to speakers of other languages unless they already know English.

    I've seen this video a billion times. Then one day I wanted to watch it again. Then I noticed the school looked super familiar. I ended up going to this exact college. Such a crazy coincidence. Because I always wanted to be in a school with deaf people like myself so would watch stiff like this video. And I just ended up in RIT. So I accomplished one of my dreams.😊😊😊😊
