    Thanks for the tips. I’ve been looking all over for info on what type of kayak is good for the ocean

    Hi Mate... Thanks for vid. One thing you didnt mention was proven quality. Here in australia there are absolutely brilliant offshore yaks Hobbie, Jackson, Ocean Kayak and my personal preference Viking. Then there are brands that cost less than half of these. 8kms is furthest ive been outside, and what makes all the difference is knowing you have a hull of integrity underneath you.

    Big game 2 = barge
    Kraken 13.5 or Cuda 14 = stability, tracking & speed

    Big fish 120. Is all stability but the setup I'm gonna do is 1 12' outrigger with a motor. Question I have is the bow is open on the big fish 120. Is that bad?

    Jim, great video. Would you say the Big Rig is useable for fishing along the coast and for fishing perhaps 100 yards offshore? Or do I need a longer and slimmer kayak? ...I would like the stability...

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on your size. You can certainly use a Big Rig no problem but do you need that stability. You can get some great stability on say the Cuda HD or Coosa HD without the size of the BR. .

      Thx. I am 6'4" and 220 lbs so some stability is needed.
      I will look into the Cuda HD also.

    Is there anything wrong with having a sit in kayak vs a sit on top for offshore fishing? Im 5'8 180 lbs and found a 10'5Pelican that supports 300lbs, however its a sit in. As far as being able to fish, will it present that big of an issue?

    Would you recommend the Kraken for Lake Superior salmon fishing? I've paddled it once in a sea kayak when I was in high school and the water is cold and the Lake is known to have a similar temperament as the North Atlantic.

      I'll answer my own question since I have been looking into this more. Yes it will be awesome for salmon and trout fishing in Lake Superior. So when I move up to the north shore in Minnesota I'll save up for a Kraken and all the other safety gear. It seems the two most expensive things will be the kayak and the dry suit. It's going to be really fun!

    How far out do you consider off shore fishing ? Nice set up by the way....

      If it's not "inter coastal" then it is considered offshore

    Great video Jim! I know you are a Jackson guy obviously, but have you had a chance to paddle the profish reload by biking? Just wondering what your opinion would be. Thanks

      I have no paddled it, I have seen it and it does look ok hull wise but some of the features really didn't work for me.

    I know there is manny variables to this but question if you wanted to get a kayak for offshore fishing and it did not have center hatch for rods and have to lunch in the surf. Do you need a center rod hatch?

    Hola Jim deseo saber por qué no esta al mercado el kraken 15.5 y por qué es tan difícil de conseguirlo me gusta su programa y lo sigo espero verlo de nuevo por Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

      Jesus R Corcino this was Jackson Kayak’s decision to just sell the shorter version. I prefer the longer boat but I guess not enough of them sold! Thanks for watching the show!!

    Hey Jim, do you troll much, & if so, how do u like the toughtube for holding the big offshore rods?

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We troll a lot. The tough tubes with the sline post, not the ram ball, are great for the heavy rods.

    How do you go to the bathroom in a kayak, can you stand easily?

    • @KayakFishingTales

      Many kayaks you can stand in, if not, honestly you can figure it out!!

    just wondering I got a hobie outback and its 12.1 foot would that be good for froffshore

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really depends on the water you will be in. Here in San Diego it would be fine, up in Nor Cal you may find it a touch small when the ocean gets bit.

    Hi Jim I am 5’8” 197 lbs would you recommend the big tuna for sea fishing?

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well honestly it is not my first choice unless you really need a tandem. For offshore fishing your best bet is the Kraken 13.5 or 15.5 or perhaps the Cuda HD.

    • @sergiorodriguez5689
      @sergiorodriguez5689 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do need a tandem.

    • @sergiorodriguez5689

      Thank you for your fast response.

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      weigh the percentages, what percentage of the time will you be solo vs having a second paddler. VERY OFTEN, people get a tandem because they have to for spouse or child, then the second person rarely goes and you are stuck in a tandem by yourself. Not the best option.

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I generally suggest getting the right kayak for you as a single then either rent on the days that the second person goes or look for a good used tandem to use as a backup

    • @KayakFishingTales
      @KayakFishingTales  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For an offshore kayak for me yes 11 foot is too short.
