  • This was a project to build a low noise 6 metre band antenna for long range communications. Taking a computer aided design and making it from materials that were easily available. Matching a breeze to setup.

    Have run it now for two DX seasons and performance is really good. The Antenna is resonating 2.2:1 on two meters as well and works. Will make a video on that soon.
    Tubing is 16mm in diameter. Balun was calculated and can handle 400w+ due to coax rating.

    After running the LFA for a while now, how has it compared to your previous 6M antenna? Nice build, 73!

      Comparing the two antennas was easy the gain was better 3db mainly due to an extra element and at the same time the noise level was lower. Also would like to add that because the driven element is a loop it picks up 2m band and can transmit as well. 2.2:1

      Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a winner! Wound up putting up a 14 ele 28ft boom LFA for 2M and very happy with results. FB is better gain goes without saying very good. The biggest problem has been local noise while running preamp and while out of my control for a certain extent it's nice to have a sharp antenna with good rejection to null out what I don't want to hear. I still pickup noise in exact direction of it but have to be a little more on directed at it. When direction that it is in zero noise with preamp on it can hear extremely well as in receiving indoor antennas over 100+ mile range and understand what they are saying on a regular basis. If cross polarized at that range barely can tell someone is there sometimes depending on their height. Have fun & 73!
