Scrapping the winter fuel allowance for pensioners, most of them on a standard pension, whilst not raising any taxes on the tax evading rich is disgusting !!!

I'm a pensioner and I'm not rich but I don't need a fuel allowance and neither do most of the pensioners living nearby - some of them get a new car every 3 years or so and only use it to go 1/2 mile down the road to get their newspaper! Giving money to people that clearly don't need it is ridiculous.
By all means give a fuel allowance to those - including some pensioners - that are actually in need.

Bit judgie! Those who get a new car every 3 years, it could be a disability car which they have to pay for. They may have a disability and have to use their car just to pick up a paper. How do you know most of the pensioners in your area don't need a heating allowance?

A lot us pensioners don't get a full state pension because we receive a small private pension which we pay tax on, either from previous works or from our late husbands works. Because of this private pension our state pension is reduced! we cant claim any benefits ie; pension credit, rent, council tax, because we get this private pension and now we are losing the heating allowance! Pensioners who are on benefits are better off than those of us who cant claim a penny!
By stopping the heating allowance most pensioners will suffer in the winter months trying to keep warm and we will struggle to pay our fuel bills. The cold weather can cause a lot of issues for us pensioners over the winter months where many are taken into hospital or die alone from hypothermia in their homes! We already have no social care! how much more is going to be taken from us?!
The winter fuel allowance should not be just for those who are claiming benefits but also those of us who are living below the bread line.

More people die of cold than they do of heat, mostly “moderate” cold, not extreme cold conditions. Anything either side of 18 degrees centigrade older people are especially at risk. In the U.K. this would include an increased risk of dying on days with a temperature of 10 degrees or 15 degrees. Sub optimal temperatures can lead to premature deaths from conditions such as cardiovascular, kidney disease, respiratory infections & diabetes. Older people sometimes don’t realise their temperature is dropping.
The government are aware of this so it’s surprising the winter fuel payment was axed. The Mortality insight report came out in April 2023. More excess winter mortality as a result of cold, not freezing but cold. ONS research stated there were 13,000 excess winter deaths during Winter 2021-2022. Time & time again it is found that low temperatures affect the mortality of the elderly. Heat , flooding, air quality& food availability are also likely to affect mortality but by far the greatest cause of premature deaths in the U.K. is moderate cold.

Yet she’ll have plenty of funds to give to Zelensky and Netanyahu while pensioners freeze. She’s even going to give junior doctors 22% pay rise. Maybe she’ll start taxing disability benefits like DLA and PIP to pay for that one. Most pensioners on the full state pension don’t and can’t get pension credit because it is a few pounds over the limit. If your weekly income to £218.15 if you’re single or your joint weekly income is £332.95 if you have a partner, anything over this you’re not entitled to pension credit.
How can Reeves say, the figures are worse than anyone thought. Can no one count or read budgets? It was common knowledge in the UK, after all, new GDP figures are published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) every month. However, quarterly figures - covering three months at a time - are considered more important. They had all these figures in front of them. They also had another set of figures from The Office for Budget Responsibility. Obviously she chose to ignore these statics and their warnings and feed the general public a diet of verbal diarrhoea and hope we’d swallow it hook, line and sinker, which we all did.
Again it is the poorest in society that is being raided to pay the costs of Labours shenanigans. Can we ask for a refund or a rerun so that Labour can spout out some truths.
Income tax rises are the fairest way to pay for these shortfalls and everyone pays their share from rich to poor. Put up the top tax bracket by 2p-5p, put up national insurance. But! Stop making the poorest in society even poorer and making them pay for wars we can’t afford, asylum seekers we can’t afford. Charity begins at home. Looks like Labour could be a one term government.

People were warned not to give them their vote or give them enough votes that they could ride rough shot over anyone putting up an argument to bin this policy. Labour aren’t the same labour older adults would vote for, they’re more conservative and will basically follow Tory policies because big business and Friends of Israel will be dictating their policies, just like in America, though we’re just not as bad as that lot, yet.
I’m convinced they’ll also either start taxing PIP or go down the Tory voucher route. Watch this space when it comes to hammering the poorest in society, they’ll know no bounds and spin it as all the fault of the Tories. Also, don’t forget she’s given the doctors a 22% pay rise that the poor will need to pay for and that’s only the beginning. She’ll have nurses, teachers, firefighters, police etc. looking for similar rises. Maybe they should stop falling America and their proxy wars. She found billions to give to Zelensky, how much will that corrupt nation take out of that money to fill their own pockets when they all decide to flee to their nice houses they built abroad. They’re also giving funds to Genocide Netanyahu and yet they’ll let poorer pensioners and the disabled freeze. As for having GB energy how many billions will that cost and who is really going to profit from it? The SNP tried that one but a black hole was swallowing up too much money and they soon ditched that plan.
