Thanks for the reaction Lau. Lay IS art. I love that he, from the "Lit" album to this one, "East", he is bringing his Chinese culture to the forefront in his music. The choreo may look simplistic, but it really is hard to have such control. The subtle hand movements actually have specific meanings in Asian culture, from Chinese to Thai to Indian religion.
Apsaras is a mythical female celestial being of the clouds and water, having beauty in looks, dance and song...apsaras are ancient beings within the culture of all these countries...but strongly rooted in Hindu and Buddhism....and there are many dances featuring the title "apsaras", with beautiful women gracefully dancing.
But Lay incorporates the Chinese style so well, it is mesmerizing to watch, and the traditional instruments along with his voice, I absolutely love it. Lay is a master and perfectionist...he will do what HE wants, and does not go for trendy dance styles of today..he does his style.
Please Lau, watch Jeff Avenue's reaction to these videos, he is a dancer/actor, and one of my top 10 favorite reactor channels along with you Lau. You can appreciate his critique, as he was blown away by this choreo. Thanks Lau!
    💙🌺

Lay did spend a lot of money (heard that the bugget is even higher than lit) on the mv. He flew 150 staff members and dancers to the desert and a well known world heritage site called Mogao Grottoes, also known as Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, to shoot the mv. The Flying Apsaras are often considered a symbol of the Mogao Grottoes, painted in Mogao caves 1600 years ago.
In the dance practice, Lay incorporated many traditional dance moves and gestures painted on the caves. The reason for him to release only 40s is because, as he said, he’s not fully satisfied with the rest of the mv. I really hope he’ll drop the full version soon, but I respect his decision. As we all know, Lay never settles for less.

Great reaction! I can see how you were moved by Lay’s work. Yes, he is truly an artist, and what he has shown us is true art!
The music style of Flying Apsaras is Lay’s very own M-POP, which mixes Chinese traditional instruments into modern popular music and gives us a blended flavor, and the choreography is also a mixed style, in which we can apparently find Chinese traditional dance as well as HipHop, Waacking, Krumping……, all kinds of dance styles. This is Lay’s style!
The flying Apsaras refers to the gods and goodness on the ancient Chinese murals in DunHuang desert, and it also represents mankind’s longtime wish of flying into the sky. The choreo were inspired by the dance of the flying Apsaras on the mural, which is also a well-known traditional dance inChina. The whole piece is so divine and ritual, and Lay and all the dancers have done so well, it’s just a master piece!

No worries Lau, everyone misses the pronunciation. Apsara (a heavenly female) is singular. Apsaras is plural. The accent is on the initial “a, the middle “a” is swallowed & the final “a” is just normal….kind of like how “que sera” is said.

Looking at this again, I should’ve said the initial “a” is still an “ah” sound,. So kind of like AHP- s’rah. I lived for years in Cambodia where images of apsaras are everywhere.
