WHICH FLEXTAILGEAR PUMP IS BEST? THE X OR X2?

  • With a record snow year, flash floods and an awful lot of rain on the PCT I made the decision to invest in a new pump for my Thermarest air mat. Using a pump sack with a one person tent is challenging to say the least! I just need to decide what I can cut from my pack to compensate for the extra weight!

Great, wanted to know which one to purchase and this made the X2 the obvious choice.

Nice review, with a great comparison to the previous version! I first wanted to grab the previous version because of the lower price, but after the video with the different aspects definitely not! Thank you!

I’ve been using it daily on the PCT and I have no regrets. The battery lasts a long time and it stays attached to my pad. It’s a great little pump.

I have the X, but I think that you have convinced me to pick up the X2. I can use the old one for car camping and the X2 for backpacking. Looking forward to enjoying your journey on the PCT along with you.

Sorry about the sound on this one, I was wearing the microphone but forgot to turn it on. The X2 is an awesome pump, I now just need to figure out what to remove from my PCT kit to compensate for it. Thanks for following along. :-)

I have the original Thermarest NeoAir pump. I used it one time and put it in storage for years. When I took it out to use it again, it wouldn't work even with fresh batteries. When I reached out to Thermarest, I received a form letter back with instructions on how to return it for service. It's a $40 pump. I just asked them to look at it to see if they could possibly fix it. Came to find out they been out of production for a while now and when they were on the market, they had horrible ratings. I'm getting myself one of these Flextail X2's now. And if anyone is interested, Thermarest only has a 2 year warranty on their pumps where Flextails carry a lifetime warranty for theirs. I'm sold. Thanks a lot for the comparison. 😊

I think service and warranty options are just as important as the product. Good call and you won't regret getting this pump. It has served me well on the PCT.

It’s so much better than the first one. They do have a pro version as well but I’ve not looked at that one (it’s a bit heavy for backpacking). This one is perfect in my opinion.

I have the X and used the plastic it came packaged in the box along with the bag to solve the same issue. When you open the box you pull a plastic sleeve out that holds the pump, fitting, charge cord and the stuff bag to keep it all together. I utilized the plastic sleeve for the same only in the stuff bag. All you have to do is trim the plastic along the outer sides of the plastic sleeve to make the plastic sleeve thinner. Replace the parts back into it and slide the sleeve into the stuff bag just as you would the box it came in. Your welcome LOL

Just tape a thin peice of cardboard over the power on. Won’t turn on by accident.
