Warrior's Journey - Remastered

- Here is an attempt at restoring the Game of Death footage from A Warrior's Journey, using the footage from "Bruce Lee In G.O.D". Of course, it's not frame accurate due to the two versions using alternate footage... but it's as close as we can get.
This would have been the greatest martial arts movie ever if it was completed. We love you Bruce!
I can't believe they edited as much as they did in the final film. This is WAY better. Sound effects and music and all.
KontryBoy706 Its unfortunate that Bruce Lee was never able to finish what fans claim to been his best film. The Game of Death (1978) had a different storyline then the original, which is this, or at least the climax. I really wished Bruce had not died so young. To this day, Bruce Lee fans are stuck with "what if?" scenarios.
@@bigodoinkers3644 yes did u watch a warriors journed it explains what the movie would have been also to display bruce lee jeet kune do what he was going to convey
@@kyleday5026 It was a great film! I still wish we got to see Game Of Death played out still with Bruce.
@@bigodoinkers3644 yes I read that he was thinking of ideas constantly and during down time on enter the dragon he was.
The final film, they cut out the other two characters too
The moment he walked down those last flight of stairs put tears in my eyes just imagining what could have been. Imagine Game Of Death released under Bruce Lee's vision before passing away, his magnum opus.
up stairs on 3rd floor is name Kareem Abdul jabbar the taller guy as Bruce lee with the yellow shirt that is strong
Actually van its the FIFTH Floor where kareem is. Wheb bruce got to ork on this they filmed the 3rd to 5th floors. He didnt have bosses yet for the second and 1st floors. He was still in the middle of casting fighters ans bosses for the 2 bottom floors so they took care of these ones first. He did a phenominal job tho
@@hybrid5568 the bottom floor fights were supposed to be shot after Enter the Dragon. Well we know how that went :'(
@@ShinSuperSaiyajin it's a devastation. He was getting better at making movies and directing them. Not only would have been good but i believe it would of been compition for enter the dragon. I believe it would of been that good
@@hybrid5568 no disrespect to Enter the Dragon but in terms of plot and action, The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, and Way of the Dragons blow Enter the Dragon out of the water.
However, when I learned of the original plot of Game of Death, I thought it was a shame it wasn’t finished. Game of Death was Bruce’s vision of the ultimate martial arts movie in my opinion.
Even thought that he was supposed to double down on what worked with Way of the Dragon: minimalist dialog, more tension and more technical fight sequences, and less hokey plot.
Such a shame
This was the movie that defined Bruce Lee's Art and Philosophy of Martial Arts. He was way ahead of his time. May his soul rest in peace. Ameen 🤲🏿
27:38 Ive never seen Bruce do a wind up baseball pitch punch on this part, still insane to watch
Yeah, that caught me by surprise, too. Pretty sure it's not in the movie.
@@echelon2k8 it's not, it must be a directors cut (his cut)
Id also havent seen that in a warriors journey doc
@@moweezy4105 It's from the Japanese GOD version which is a slightly longer edit at 39 minutes.
If I remember correctly, another video shows it from another angle.
In the end when he climbs down those stairs and with that music is just sad, it's sad that we will never know what could have been with this movie and the fact that Bruce had to leave so early.
dosen't matter if it's "frame innaccurate"...you made the effort to bring this to everyone without any money or personal gain. an unselfish act to bring enjoyment to others. i enjoyed this very much...thank you. i wish there were more people in the world like you. again...many thanks. i really enjoyed this.
Yhea what you said pal, made by a true fan for the fans.
is this the music to the 1978 score
@@kyleday5026 No, but this works just fine to me either way
This looks like the warriors journey cut. Bought this when it was first released. I was, and am, grateful to see any version of the footage but to be fair when people say about it being a good edit it’s really not. It feels padded for every second. There’s action and the longest breaks when possible to bring up length of the piece. As I said it’s amazing to see and we can start to guess where it would have gone but these years later it feels so slow. I’d love a release just showing the footage with all alt takes and info and interviews etc to flesh the potential out this unfinished masterpiece.
This version was the original footage and the INTENDED edit for the movie. If Bruce had lived, this would be the version people would have saw back then. The documentary about Bruce that was made in the 90s (i think) unveiled this gem for the very first time.
And in my personal opinion: is a masterpiece. The greatest film about fighting ever made. And it wasn't even finished. LONG LIVE BRUCE LEE
I like how there's little talking. Action tells the story. A+
I love this version! Great job. You pretty much included my favorite aspects. I live the smile when Bruce Lee sits back and offers the "go ahead" to James Tien, and also when the heavy bag hits James Tien. These subtle things make it better IMO
The missing dialogue at 4:44 is “It’s challenging isn’t it? When bamboo strikes, it’s hard.” I got it from the game of death redux in the criterion collection
Hi if you dont mind please upload game of death redux please
No its u see this bamboo becomes a sword
A few more is missing too like our own broken rhythm
@@pororogames635it is dificult no, when the bambou strike its hard . true dialogue of god
Where can we get the Redux?
Noticed the comment section is congratulating the channel for editing this video. This was taken from one of the many documentaries on Bruce Lee discussing his life and career. This documentary went into depth on what the plot of the Warriors Journey.

Yes! Thank you for such amazing quality. I first watched this, October 2000. I never would have thought someone would remaster the footage. You're a legend! 🙏🙇🏻
Final game of death 2023
TY so much for uploading! I've seen so many inferior versions. This is the most complete and of the highest quality in video and audio. Priceless!
We will out grow Bruce lee in age but his success will out grow us in any decade
Game of Death would’ve been Bruce’s masterpiece
It could have been the Greatest kung fu movie of All-Time, 33:16 was the last time when we got to see Bruce Lee
If Bruce had lived he would've had many more masterpieces. Not just this one.
I wish he had delayed the filming of Enter the Dragon to finish Game of Death which would have been a far better classic.
@@LIbertyorDeath419 I doubt it. ETD had the epic scope.
@@AlexGarcia-ze4yg ETD was/is a great film and I lost number time of times I watched it. But I thought the fight scenes in GOD were superior.
His fights with Sammo Hung, Bob Wall (whom I met) and the palace guards were awesome but he was mostly fighting stunt men - great ones at that - but not many trained martial artists of Guro Inosanto or Ji Han Jae's caliber... except for Wall and Tadashi Yamashita who only had a cameo but no fight scenes.
For GOD, his co star was going to be George Lazenby who was 007 in "From Her Majesty's Secret Service" so that could have been fantastic.
Besides, the tempo of filming ETD was what caused him to die from heat stroke. If he had started on it AFTER completing GOD, he might still be alive.
THIS is the only truest, and solid Game of Death movie. So much with only 3 stages already! Love Bruce’s cockiness that shows and shines here and the comedy! The rest is up to our imagination.
7:50 gives me goosebumps every time. It was this scene back when I had the warrior’s journey dvd in 2003 that got me into jump roping because of Bruce lee and Muhammad Ali’s footwork. When I get into a good flow and rhythm while Jump roping I think about that particular scene.
Lol I think of this scene when I jump rope too.
I really appreciate to the person who prepared this remastered version and who uploaded it for us 👏👏👏👏👏
Wonderful 👏👏👏
First of all thanks a lot to entertain us with this nicely edited masterpiece of yours. Its all way nicely constructed. God bless you.
Great footage! Thanks for posting! it's just sad that the entire movie was never made. We will wonder forever what the treasure was & what the ending would have been.
This is by far the most Bruce has ever been hit in a movie.
Ji Han Jae also manages to take him down a few times.
All fights combined yes but individually, his fight with Chuck Norris is the most.
@@George-Hawthorne I like the fight with Bob Baker. It was also fun to know that Bruce would be hitting him and smiling (probably behind rehearsals or when Bruce is facing away from camera).
That was a wonderful edit & I loved it! It really is sad that Bruce Lee died before he could go back & continue making the film.
Best HQ you can find on TH-cam for this badass fight of Bruce Lee
=== They discovered the missing "log scene". It got released a few hours ago. Unbelievable! ===
I stand corrected. First of all. Round of applause for doing this and your contribution. You chose and this for me is the definitive game of death footage as mr lee intended. Am I right in saying John little edited this footage together using script notes. This 30 to 35 minutes seem polished and rank high. Warriors journey doc got it correct. Quality of the print is sublime and I’m comparing the vhs copy print from years ago
"It's difficult to have a rehearsed routine to fit in with broken rhythm". Be like water and adapt to the situation my friend :)
Hi what did he mean by difficult to have a rehearsed routine to fit in with broken rhythm also do I know if any other parts were filmed not been released.
What makes Bruce lee the best martial arts fighter on film for me is every movement you can feel it he puts it all in plus the speed. He was like the first mythical superhero before marvel.
@@kyleday5026 it means your opponent can defeat you if you have telegraphic offenses like always using your right hand in offense or defense. Be unpredictable
👊👊👊👊👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎
The way I felt when that guy said "your job is done" and then Bruce walks down the stairs.....😢
30:11 the words between them both is 🔥
The second time we saw bruce try to spare his opponent before having to take him out...
This is FAR better than the entire bastardized Hollywood version, which was mostly due to Raymond Chow's greed...Bruce Lee completely put his trust in him, and then he screwed him and ruined his vision for this film after he was dead and gone...nice going, Raymond. The only redeeming quality of the Hollywood version is the presence of Colleen Camp, back when she was young and smoking hot.
Plus the music by Grandmaster John Barry.
The fake Bruce Lee looked funnier than Jackie Chan did his stunts😂😂😂
I liked this version better than the 1978 version

Bruce Lee vs Kareem Abdul Jabbar - *JKD vs JKD*
What’s important about this last fight scene was that it was the fight that Bruce has been looking for! Each fighter below used a specific style, but since Bruce has *no style*, he was able to adapt and adjust to whatever attack was thrown at him.
But when Bruce finally made it to the third floor, he finally *met his match!* Now it’s not about style vs style anymore, now it’s all about *fighter vs fighter.*
And God did both put one hell of a fight!
This is the only real Game of Death. Everything else is watered down. Why can't they just leave it like this... well done, this is as good as it's going to get.
WOW IT'S AMAZING TO ME THAT THEY DIDN'T USE THESE SCENES IN THAT 1978 MOVIE IT WOULD'VE BEEN WAYYY BETTER LOL, AND IT'S SO SAD BRUCE LEE PASSED AWAY BEFORE HE HAD A CHANCE TO COMPLETE HIS VERSION I KNOW IT WOULD'VE BEEN REALLY GOOD, RIP BRUCE LEE !
DLS honestly since Bruce Lee died it was a waste of time making it
It was shitty ass fuck. They should've just showed all of the original clip we are watching right now and put it on tv then DVD came out put it in one of the movie as a bonus
Joel Dang definitely !
I've always thought they should have scrapped the idea of completing the movie, and made it into a documentary like they did with Warrior's Journey.
The guy who made that film in 1978, Raymond Chow, was with Bruce Lee when he collapsed, he inherited rights to his films, I think. and he was dangerous to establishment. They wanted him stereotyped.
Not entirely accurate, Robert Clouse directed it...Chow produced it like all his other HK films...doesn't matter, both are guilty as fuck making that 1978 travesty.
A true testament to the power grace and fire of Bruce Lee in all his glory blazing and heartfelt a moment and magical time now crystallized in our hearts forevermore
10:37 Damn.. I wanna live like this guy. Just laying down on my bed of glory, dressed up for work, only had to part the curtains for customers.
I think I accidentally just described what a sex worker does too...
@@Solidude pick one.

Wise decision.
It's really too bad Bruce Lee couldn't finish this
This truly would have been the greatest martial arts movie ever
Part of me still thinks it is
yes you are right, and for me is the 33 min of the film better then the movie Enter of Dragon.
@@hariskaraosmanovic8195 That's A BIT of a stretch for me. I LOVE Enter The Dragon. To me it's the greatest martial arts film ever created hands down. If this film was finished maybe. But as is no. With that being said I REALLY REALLY REALLY like this fight scene
@@TotalTech_ ETD had scope and scale plus production values that I doubt this would have matched. However, if it was just Bruce's time, then at least we got a 33 min long fight scene. Actually the grand finale where he fights Kareem Abdul Jabbar. How sick is that?
@@TotalTech_ I mean what if all Bruce would have filmed was some dinner scene or like a dialogue scene walk in the park or some crap?
@ 5:53 when Bruce starts prancing like a prize stallion 💪🏿😆🤣😂
The best !!! Wow why the hell they didn't show this in the movies now I'll never look at the one in the movies this is enough to look at all the footage and the real voice of Bruce lee talking damn shame how this beautiful man passed away after this movie makes me so upset. 😢
I've only just discovered this gem. Thank you. Art work!
I laughed out when guy said how do you like that, Bruce hits him and then Bruce says the same with this funny look. This is hilarious.
You a Shenmue fan too? Shenmue I & II are my all-time favorite video games😀
And that was the beginning of when comedy was mixed with Kung Fu! You can see the resemblance when martial artist like Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan and Summo incorporated that into their films. Legends
@@tehokowhitu00 pretty sure John Little dubbed Bruce because Bruce filmed first and sound would be post production. Little must've had laffs doing it.
In the script Bruce and team set out to retrieve a national treasure. The first floors would have dozens of baddies if different styles and Lee's team would be reduced.with each floor of the Temple.

BEST MARTIAL SCENE EVER FILMED 🐉💛
Bruce lee was and still is the greatest martial artist to ever walk this earth!!!😊👍
One major notice to everyone I have found. There is slight variation or differences in this warrior’s journey. That must mean there is still more footage. More angles and different takes of Bruce doing several scenes in this video
I thought I once saw the punch, where he loads up like a baseball pitcher, from a rear angle on another video.
I hope one day somebody does a Toiuch of Evil type restoration using all new footage and Bruce Lee's notes and maybe use cgi when needed .
They made that clear in the comments to the video. There are moments where it’s not in perfect sync (even beyond the original Warrior’s Journey because that wasn’t perfect either, all the audio being dubbed in post as was the practice of the time) because the footage they’re using is occasionally slightly different. There’s many outtakes of the scenes available.
in the first fight , where it says missing Dialog , i found a video of this where some found a video , with the Dialog in that film clip where Bruce Lee was fighting with Dan Inosanto , i forgot what was said but i ran here on TH-cam , i think i saved that clip in my Movie List on my TH-cam Channel
I kinda of wish Bruce did this film instead of Enter the dragon. But I understand why he stopped filming G O D to film Enter the dragon. These scenes were brilliant 🙏🏻👍🏻
I remember being at a buddies house 8th grade summer and this came on the AMC channel and it just blew our freaking minds away.
@ 8:39 Bruce turns into a mechanical mannequin 🤣😂 the man is too fluid and talented 💯
Unpopular Opinon:
They NEED To CGI The ORIGINAL script for this one
It's the 70s the 70s never have computers back then
@@boyblander1839 That's not true, computers existed in the 1970s and so did CGI but back then the technology was garbage, so they were rarely used.
I get what you mean. Adapt the original script, screenplay, and storyboard into a CGI or, better yet in my opinion, an anime film.
That I think can work!
@@jerelminter Some of today’s CGI ain’t much better. :p
@@GeneralSirDouglasMcA It looks much better than what it did years ago.
That's the best quality I've seen for this footage and the dialogue is different too and more accurate, I've always had trouble understanding the lines of Kareem Abdul jabbar, but here they are very clear.
This is the original Version from the Doku ✌🏻 Thank you 😘
It's not about the knock outs, I believe Bruce had something to tell us with those steps, each and every one of them. The stairs took him out. Keep moving forward.
12:52 Bruce Lees sarcastic smile, he looks so funny 😂 if he lived longer he would fit in comedy movies ,too 😅
Lee once promised Jackie Chan after the injury accident on set of Enter the Dragon that he would work on Chan's future films,
Lee would probably be the usual straight man with Chan as the usual goofball.
Excellent work my friend.
This is rare GOLDEN footage.
5:32 I love how his face says "ah F*** I might be screwed."
This is a cool little editing experiment. I much prefer the Warriors Journey Cut, because the flow and editing was better, but the footage wasn’t in the best shape at that time. The GOD cut had better footage quality, but I think the editing wasn’t great, probably because they tried to remaster/restore the picture quality of those footage as much as they could but had to cut out some.
The missing part of Kareem's dialog is "of the word", thus the line is "You have forgotten that I too am not afraid of the word "death"". I read his lips on that one.
Incredible footage. It’s way more entertaining than what they released. I don’t like AI but I think they could do an incredible new version of this movie with some AI/CGI Bruce Lee footage. Just a thought. I’m honored to be doing art of Bruce Lee, etc for an upcoming Kung Fu trading card set. I’ll post on my channel eventually. Miss you Bruce.
I wonder if people know the second guy Bruce faces is really the actual grandmaster and founder of hapkido. Ji Han-jae. Incredible masters at work in this
@E.P. The Dreamer. I never heard he was the founder but something like an 8th degree. I did read an interview with Jim where he said he thought at first Bruce was just an actor. "I was a trainer of Korean armed forces." A good guess is that he taught elite groups. "...but he shocked me. You see where he breaks my back on his knee? He lifted me up like I was weightless. I weighed 180 lbs. and he was around 130. But he lifted me again and again without tiring!" Another interview is that Bruce's intensity was as they were really fighting. He didn't want to make another film with Bruce because of that.
@@jakemay637 i knew it because I took hapkido as a kid and learned that as one of my first lessons in learning the style. I never knew he taught armed forces, thats amazing! And I can believe it, Bruce's fights on here were either choreographed very well by him or they were legit fights lol. I'm sure they learned from each other here 🔥💯💯💯🙏🏼
I believe the first time they met was during the sixties. Jhoon Rhee, was a mutual friend, and introduced them to each other. And I've read that during the filming of Enter the Dragon, Shek Kin told Lee to, "relax, it's only filmmaking."
Although he was not the original founder of hapkido, it was a branch or another style of hapkido he founded. Maybe similar to how Wally Jay created small circle jujitsu.

@@jakemay637 yes, it was
Bruce Lee's entire G.O.D. plot:
Hai Tien the Yellow-Faced Tiger, a retired champion martial artist who is confronted by Korean underworld gangs. They tell him the story of a pagoda where guns are prohibited. The pagoda is under heavy guard by highly-skilled martial artists; they are protecting a stolen Chinese national treasure (which is not identified at all in any surviving material) held on its top level.
The gang boss wants Hai to be a part of a group of martial artists he assembled, to help retrieve said item by fighting the guardians. This is the boss's second team he's sending; the first team he sent was nearly wiped out. They force the reluctant Hai to participate by abducting his two younger siblings. Along with four other martial artists (two played by James Tien and Chieh Yuan), Hai battles his way up a five-level pagoda. The team encounters a different, and stronger, challenge on each floor.
As originally scripted by Lee, Hai and company enter the temple grounds, where at the pagoda's base, they fight 10 Karate black belts. Inside the pagoda, Hai's team encounters a different opponent on each floor, each one more formidable than the last. The other fighters assisting Hai are handily defeated by the pagoda guardians, as they're not as skilled as Hai; the guardian in turn must be defeated by Hai.
At the pagoda raid, Hai's group was to fight 15 floor guardians:
• Bolo Yeung (sensei), Lam Ching-ying, Yuen Wah, Unicorn Chan, Bee Chan, Wu Ngan, and 14 others as *The Ten Black-Belt Karate Fighters* - Ground Floor Guardians (has never been filmed)
• Hwang In-shik as *Korean Hapkido Master #1* - 1st Floor Guardian, (only Ground Floor footage)
• Taky Kimura as *Praying Mantis-style Shih-fu* - 2nd Floor Guardian (also has never been filmed)
• Dan Inosanto as *Eskrima Filipina* - 3rd Floor Guardian
• Ji Han-jae as *Korean Hapkido Master #2* - 4th Floor Guardian
• Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as *Mantis* - 5th Floor Guardian
Hai would defeat all 15 formidable masters after his follow raiders were taken down by each master of the floor, the last one being James Tien's character the final guardian (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar), a giant fighter who fights with a free and fluid fighting style similar to Hai's Jeet Kune Do. Because of the guardian's great size and strength, in addition to his potent martial artistry, he can only be defeated when Hai recognizes and exploits his greatest weakness: an unusually high sensitivity to light.
Immediately after defeating the giant guardian, Hai turns around and descends the staircase...heading out of the pagoda. Despite all the talk of something awaiting up top of the (now unguarded) flight of stairs, there is no mention of anyone going up to retrieve it. No surviving material explains how this affects Hai or his captive siblings.
I think the missing dialogue in the first part had Lee saying something like "see? This bamboo has become a sword".
Ya just can't help but smile along with Bruce Lee when he does in theses scenes. XD
holy cow, this is amazing wow! this isnt' the version I have ever seen
What I don’t understand, is why is it whenever I find an HD version of the original footage of Game of Death, that whoever uploads it, keeps editing out the part where after the red stick guardian waves his one stick, James tiens character slowly starts to move and he twirls the stick he uses to counter the red sticks in one hand. and for a little bit, he’s doing good. And the second time is when he starts to lose against the red stick guardian. Why do people keep cutting that part out, I actually liked that part.

For starters this is all the film that we know...what was Bruce's plans and final cut for this? For jebar there were different eyes used on one of the cuts..why..Bruce's odd death...when they went to finish this in 78 the other guy in this 3 died of the SAME THING Bruce died of...strange coincidence...then Bruce's son dies exactly 20 years later..I can go on and on....
Love how you restored the scene, but couldn't it have been possible to make some of Bruce Lee's yells sound much more clear than some that are noticeably faded?
Not really all of them are taken directly from Bruce’s other movies,
This 72 version of the film is where Bruce absolutely looks the coolest person in the world
Jackie Chan, looks pretty cool here, and he does some things that was similar to what Lee did.
