  • This is North Sentinel Island. One of the most mysterious places in the world. Home to the most isolated tribe in the world for the last 60,000 years. North Sentinel is one of the Andaman Islands belonging to India, and visiting is strictly forbidden. However, in 2018, an American man illegally hired a local fisherman to take him there.

It wouldn't matter if he was infected. People carry around microbes that can cause infection to other people you come in contact with if they don't have the antibodies to fight them off. This has been an ongoing problem whenever people from more advanced cultures meet indigenous people. The visitors don't have to be sick. Their bodies have developed tolerances to these bacteria and virus, but the moment they come in contact with people who've never been exposed to them and thus have never developed immunity to them, the effects can be devastating to the indigenous ones.

A fact that is rarely mentioned is that in the late 1800's, the Sentinelese fell victims for colonialism, as a dude by the name Maurice Vidal Portman saw it fit to abduct people from the island, taking an elderly couple and two children with him to Port Blair to be studied and photographed in various poses (quite disturbing stuff). The elderly couple quickly succumbed to disease and the two children were later returned to the island, possibly introducing disease to the rest of the Sentinelese population. So no shit they are hostile, who would want to have any contact with the outside world after having their most vulnerable citizens kidnapped, used and (by circumstance) killed?

Yeah good for them. Their tribe is going extinct, there are massive problems with inbreeding. Easily curable diseases kill people at a young age, murder, rape and whatnot goes unpunished. You're not on their side, you're in a comfy first world position.
Imagine being a young kid, dreaming of seeing the world like any young person. You can see airplanes going over at night, while you wonder what's beyond the sea. Unfortunately you will never know, because the rest of the planet has decided you need to remain in the stone age. Your neighbor killed your parents in a squabble, your sister got taken as a sex slave and you will die age 32 as an old man.

If they were on a bigger island, or it was discovered that this island had something Imperial European powers badly wanted, they would've just sent thousands of troops to establish an outpost and wipe out this tribe in a series of raids. With how small that island is, it would've only been a matter of time before the North Sentinelese peopled died to either disease or military action.

There is a giant world buzzing around them they get a glimpse into sometimes (like airplanes) that they don’t understand. And they have contact only every so often with outside world. They must have their own version of history that’s so different to ours. I wonder if they think planes are mythical or if they are alien spaceships.

When the expedition tried to land and come closer the aboriginals shot arrows at them as a warning not to land. The arrows were dumb - with no arrow heads. They didn't want to hurt anyone just a warning.
Another interesting fact - there is a half sunk ship at a reef next to the island and the islanders were seen braking metal off the ship to make tools and weapons.
Another thing - it appears the islanders don't know and don't use fire. No one ever seen them to burn any fires or cooking anything. They don't have any boats either not even the most primitive.
