- The Beatles: Across The Universe Documentary is directed and edited by 16 year old Isabella Benbow (@isabellabenbow). It features interviews from podcast hosts Allison Boron and Erika White, aswell as fans, Jackie Kurovsky and Elle Dickinson.
The documentary takes you through the career of The Beatles: how they met, gaining success, the breakup, as well as their childhoods and who they were as people.

I was born in 1962 by the time I was six years old I was listening to Beatles because I had older brothers we were buying the 45s then. what a marvelous time in my life I'll never never forget. I have loved the Beatles ever since till today.
Isabella, I'm 70 and a life long Beatles fan; they shall always be the reinventors who created a new chapter in rock and roll. I do appreciate the work you have done in this documentary bringing the Beatles back to thier rightful place in music.
I’ve seen a lot of Beatles doco’s, but for one to be made in such a tasteful way as this by people who weren’t around at the time is very refreshing. The amount of Beatles content on YT presently is a measure of their (The Beatles) worth for the masses to enjoy.
Congratulations to all those involved in the production.
I always think how fortunate we are to live in a time where we can experience the Beatles music and magic regardless of age or which generation we are from. As much as it was probably mind blowing to see them live it was chaos and screaming.. but though recordings and films and these docs can still enjoy it and maybe moreso not having to be trampled on or just deal with chaos and screaming.
How lovely to hear young people of today extolling the talent and utter brilliance of these four gentlemen who literally shook the world. That the film is directed and edited by the 16 year old Isabella Benbow; is a tribute to rising talent and shows the motivational force and inspiration of The Beatles ..

I am 72years old...Beatles fan since 1962..Still listening&enjoying their music....and must admit this is a really great documentary produced&edited by a very talented young lady 👏 ..Well done!!
An absolutely bullet proof expose of the Fab Four and, for a sixteen year old, a display of real talent, creativity and an eye for "the story". This documentary is the best expression of what Paul McCartney one quipped as the Beatles biggest secret: "... we were just a great little band."

The bigger than Jesus quote was deliberately misused by very stupid and malicious people. The full quote expresses regret that such an ephemeral entity as a pop group was, at the time, a bigger media sensation than Jesus, especially since Beatles were, themselves, getting fed up with being such an ephemeral entity. They would have plenty of school input about Sermon on the Mount, Good Samaritan, etc. that, whether or not Jesus was Son of God etc., he was a very important and deeply positively good historical person and far more important than they considered themselves to be.
Of course, in longer term, it reflected very badly on those viciously nasty people and their ghastly misrepresentations of Jesus.
Not George Martin making the weird sounds. There was a team including young innovative engineers like Emerick. A very happy accidence of talent in same place at same time

I grew up in my teen years with the Beatles, had almost all their LP's, when they broke up, I felt like I had lost family members. I was so heartbroken. Now my 14 yr old great nephew loves the Beatle's which I bestowed ALL my original LP's and my awesome poster. :)

For a group where all members sang on each album (except A hard day's night and Let it be). A group who wrote all of their singles a and b-sides. From Rubber Soul they wrote all their own material. To have the two greatest songwriters in the same group is amazing. To also have a third songwriter in George Harrison just makes it seem more than coincidence. To have a manager like Brian Epstein and a producer as sympathetic and brilliant as George Martin starts to make it seem like it was written in the stars. Aswell as being great songwriters, John and Paul were brilliant vocalists. They wrote some of the greatest songs ever. Singles like She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand/This Boy, I Feel Fine/She's A Woman, Ticket To Ride, Help, Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out, Paperback Writer/Rain, Eleanor Rigby, Strawberry Fields Forever/ Penny Lane (one of the greatest singles of all time), All You Need Is Love, Hey Jude/Revolution, Get Back/ Don't Let Me Down, Come Together/Something, Let it Be/You Know My Name. They also made some of the greatest albums ever. Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road. These albums influenced so many other artists. They also made some classic solo albums. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Walls and Bridges, All Things Must Pass, Living In The Material World, George Harrison (1979), McCartney, Ram, Band On The Run, Venus and Mars, Flaming Pie, Ringo, Goodnight Vienna. I'm so glad they are still being talked about as the greatest band ever. Revolver, in my opinion, is the best album ever made. But people say Sgt.Pepper or White album, or Abbey Road. They had some great rivalries in the '60s, which made them even better. Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, two artists that could be considered as the best ever, were great rivalries for the Beatles. Rubber Soul was the inspiration for Brian Wilson to make one of the most critically acclaimed album's in Pet Sounds, which in turn influenced the Beatles into Strawberry Fields Forever and Sgt.Pepper, which totally knocked Brian Wilson's confidence. Although he went on to make some good albums, he could never better Pet Sounds. The Beatles were just incredible. Their music, I'm sure, will live on forever.
What a great job on this documentary. Very professional. I'm a huge Beatles fan and must say, this is one of the best documentaries on the Fab Four I have seen.

Beatles fans born more than 30 years after they broke up, making this doc declares the Beatles music as classical. They will stand the test of time. For my wife's 60th birthday, I took her and our two 30 YO daughters to see McCartney in 2015. Incredible. My girls grew up listening to the music I grew up with, and they love the Beatles best. They're doing the same with their children. And so it goes.

That was a very nice concise documentary I like a lot of the facts that you put into it ... stuff like them not wanting to play to a segregated crowd is very important for history .. they were sensible and see all humans the same witch is the way everyone should have been all along... people still have their judgments in 2021...it's sad . And the fact that let it be wasn't their final album I think a lot of people think it is..

Very impressive! I grew up with The Beatles and have been a lifelong fan. I’ve seen hundreds of documentaries on them. I must say this was a great documentary because you got the essence of The Beatles. I got emotional while watching and was even tearing up. I also loved how you did their childhood. You have a great feel of who The Beatles are. I will watch it again and am now a fan of yours and hope you go on to do more great things. Thank you for putting this documentary together
Thank you to everybody still watching and commenting on the documentaries that I made when I was aged 14/15/16. Although I have improved since these videos and spot a lot of mistakes, and still am learning, I'm glad to see people are still enjoying them!

This just shows how the Beatles will always be up there in the music world, just look at this 16-year-old putting this together better then most Doc well done,
I think the reason they were successful was because they were MUSIC FANS first so they played what they knew we wanted to hear because it was what THEY wanted to hear. And then they practiced until they were dead.

A great documentary on 'The Beatles', very factual without bias, or embellishments, leaving out the unnecessary, leaving a basic honest look at John, Paul, George & Ringo, as 'The Beatles'.
I briefly noted that you girls weren't about during the time of 'The Beatles' (Beatlemania) as the phenomenon became kown as. We done, all relevant detail seems to be in tact.
This should become the document for all of history, going forward, it has been well thought through, we thank you for this.

Fabulous documentary. The only thing I didn't get was the early reference to JFKs assassination being the reason the Beatles might have been big. I was around when JFK was killed and I don't ever remember thinking one time that you intend to do with each other. I love the Beatles just for themselves. And I'm 70 now
Let's just say that the 4 Seasons had a terrible lyric in one of their tunes (Oh, What A Night) that happily went "late December of '63." Instead, late '63 was one of the darkest periods in US history. People became just day-to-day zombies. Then came Feb. '64 and the Sullivan show, which finally woke America back up!
The thing about the Beatles, they were so British working class . I grew up with people just like them. The way they are is so familiar.

One thing left out is that young George Harrison knew more guitar chords than John and Paul so that alone could have sealed the deal. Another thing that is always glossed over is "Pete Bests mother"....Mona Best. She is nearly never talked about but in fact she may have been the real spark that ignited the Beatles. The story is too odd and complicated to go into but Pete's mother came into a big chunk of money in a way so unbelievable and stuff of legends I am not going to go into it. But she really helped the young Beatles in the old days even acting as a pseudo-manager and letting them play in the club she made in the basement of her HUGE house that was paid for by the odd and unbelievable way she came into the money.
Yes, I've always been fascinated by her, the way she won the money by pawning her jewellery and putting it all on a horse( Live or Let Die, ridden by a young Lester Piggott) and that coffee bar - the Casbah- so significant to all the Beatles. I was just a bit too young to go there - but if I hadn't been - I'm sure it would have been one of my favourite haunts. Her affair with Neil Aspinall and the birth of her love child, Roary, is also really something.
Pete Best was so good-looking, even today.
He should have tried his luck in Hollywood. Had charisma and sex appeal too.
Mona got the Beatles their first gig at the Cavern club too, to say nothing of her introducing John to the famous gold round glasses which actually belonged to her
mother. (As you say- long story.😅)
She was one of many that played a part in the Beatles but I don’t think it’s enough to really talk about or maybe they didn’t like talking about it coz it makes it look even worse then sacking Pete. Though he needed sacking they were right he didn’t look right and wasn’t good drummer.
@@inkey2 I don’t think she built the club just for the Beatles and I don’t think she handed them over to another manager lol I think they would of done it regardless. It should be said though that that they used Pete as drummer because of his mum and when didn’t need his mum no more they sack him. Your acting like the Beatles were just going around like puppets not knowing what they were doing
Fantastic documentary really enjoyed
This is an excellent mini-biography of the Beatles and their absolute greatness! My only quibble is that the narrator mentioned the black artists that they admired included "Little Richard, Carl Perkins, and Chuck Berry." Carl Perkins is not black. Otherwise, this is an awesome and very enjoyable film.
They probably thought they were black back in the day like they did Buddy Holly and Elvis. At least that is what I was told the parents thought when they heard what their kids were listening to. I am sure the Beatles knew they were not black but to many they were considered the same genre because they thought they were black.

I think the statement is just su.merizi g that 'The Beatles' were influenced by the American music artists of their time, not separating black from white, but acknowledging them as a whole. Just my observation & understanding from the doco.

"Rory Storm & The Hurricanes" were the most popular band in Liverpool while "The Beatles" was still a loose aggregation of casual and occasional members. They got to know Ringo in Hamburg.
Thought this might be something new or things we might not know but sadly it isn't. Well done though its good to see new people loving the Beatles. Also it's very well done. This isn't a criticism in any way I really enjoyed it . Good stuff. GOAT

In my Media class, fall 1980, our class assignment for our final, was an Audio-Visual report. I read several biographies and collected lots of pictures and video, on what we thought had influenced the 20th Century & have our subject approved by our Professor. I met with my Professor after class and told him the Beatles had the most influence to me. I went to nude beaches, because John & Yoko were naked on the cover of Two Virgins, their music defined my childhood and heavily influenced my reading choices, I read Stanger In A
Strange Land, The Hobbit & LOTR, Dune, and so
many books, because The Beatles read them. I started Yoga at 15 & became very interested in India and Hindu beliefs, because of George…so much more. Unfortunately, I learned John was murdered the next morning in my Media class, I wasn’t watching tv much, because one of the text books for my Media class was 4 Arguments Against Television, so I didn’t know till I heard my classmates talking about John’s murder, the next morning, in Media class. I cried & cried & told my Professor I couldn’t give a presentation of The Beatles, the following week, & he completely understood, he didn’t think anyone could make it through my report, without breaking down, including himself, that the timing was to raw for all of us. I turned in a written report instead, with photos, and he explained to my class, that my chosen topic was The Beatles & because we were all mourning, I wouldn’t be presenting my work to the class. Later, I wished I could have given my presentation, it was extremely topical & timely, I will always be sad…

Without a doubt George Martin played the crucial part. A real English gentleman from the old school. He was willing to listen and take in what they were suggesting . He did not put himself above them although he saw very little in the way of good songs. He had patient to wait and see what they could bring before him. It was not always good . But he didn't dismissed it. He was like a teacher who looked at their work and said That's better. And the boys to heart from this .And they went away and practiced and practiced and come up with please please me.
Yes, indeed, it was very fortunate that they met him. In general, there are so many wonderful coincidences that I am still amazed when I think about them.
George Martin was a music producing genius, but it didn't hurt that previously he had also done much work with voice recording (The Goons, etc.). One of the main complaints with Beatles era bands was that the music often drowned out the lyrics. That problem was banished with Martin at the helm.
He was good and good for them but remember it was the Beatles who came up with all the ideas and arrangements themselves. He also produced Gerry and the Pacemakers etc and they never exactly reached greatness.

You have a great feel for "pacing" - a very enjoyable documentary. Only thing I'd recommend watching out for is all the image "panning and zooming in and out". There's nothing wrong with having an image remain at full-size. But, that's not a "deal-breaker". If you were this professional at 16, we can only imagine what we're in-store for in your future film productions!

30:45 - Uh...no - they didn't sue each other during Let It Be, Paul sued the other three a year later. Allen Klein didn't come into the picture until after Let It Be was finished. At that time they were just tired of seeing each other all the time. They were beginning to grow apart as individuals and explore other interests and they hadn't much of a break since wrapping up the White Album - 2 months and then it's showtime again? No wonder they broke up earlier than expected. They could have hung in there for another 5 years if they'd just taken a longer break after the White album...then they could do a record together, do a solo album if they felt like it, then come back around a year later and put out another Beatles album.

Not based on what I've read. They met him while he was with Rory Storm in Hamburg
My mistake
Ringo met The Beatles in Hamburg in October 1960. He had done work with Rory previously in England, and the Beatles no doubt had known of him, but they never hung out together until the Germany gigs.

I remember when President Kennedy was assassinated. I was 10, It was about a year before we would hear about the Beatles. It seems we mourned Kennedy for a year. We would hear some Beatles on the radio and finally they came to the US. They made an impression on my parents the music was bright and they dressed well. When the radio played their music everyone would
sing along.

The reason they called themselves the Beatles is because they admired Buddy Holly and the Crickets. He wrote his own songs too.
Lennon and McCartney were just from another planet. All those songs in such a short amount of time and so sophisticated and varied and innovative so much so it will never be repeated and there’s whole TH-cam channels on people not believing it and thinking it was set up the government 😂 that’s how good they were people genuinely don’t believe it .

Seeing tv. 📀 Movies utube etc DOES NOT begin to equal what it was like being at their concerts. The sound barrier was broken for around 31 MINUTES!!!! the fact that we got to SEE them was enough for us!! Tix were $6.50. This was in 1965&1966 in SF

Nothing against Pete Best but face it.. the magic really was with those exact 4, can't imagine it any other way. And what luck or fortune or the stars aligned just right got it so those 4 would end up together and make history to this level. Any Beatles fan knows exactly what I am talking about of course to take no credit away from them having the best producer in the universe.

@@donna7873 I can't presume to speak for Best, but he had more of a jazz sound and a casual attitude to things. Sure he had a work ethic, but he apparently wasn't worried about pulling many no-shows regarding a mere music band, and not a "real" job. No doubt, like most people, he also couldn't wrap his mind around anyone being in a popular commercial band that would last a whole decade, anyway.
23:00 Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bo Diddley and Buddy Holly all wrote most of their own repertoire.
Ironic in the old interview John saying about them lasting 10 years but it could have been 3 months. When you think about it that is a pretty long time and people were freaking out when they broke up after 10 years. It was nothing to do with Yoko or them fighting. It was simply after 10 years they could not outdo themselves as a band so it was time to move on. And we got some good stuff out of all of them after that too. Maybe business too a little but if they wanted to stay together they could have.
