    So glad you love Sylvia, she shure is a beauty. I love a Sylvia too and mine is an entire kit from 40 through 250. She is better than the Hassys I've had and even though she was born in 1972 she is working perfectly and hasn't retired. She is a handful and a charmer. She is so sharp that it's startling to work with her. I have some two-eyed Rolleis also, including a Rolleiwide and Tele Rollei. Anybody that takes 120 is cool and Rollei is the coolest. Great vid! When I was still living in NYC, I came across a complete SL66 kit with every single lens ever made for it including the super wide Distagon. Incredible camera. Be super careful if yours ever jams up. There are very few people left equipped and experienced with servicing the SL66 and a regular shop will destroy it attempting to service it. Don’t ever open it up on your own. It’s the most complicated clockwork inside you’ll ever see in a camera. Anyway, enjoy the camera and great video!

    • @ribsy
      @ribsy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that sounds like a dream kit!

    • @absolutelyanalog
      @absolutelyanalog 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ribsy man, it absolutely was. I paid $150 for it all. Deal of a lifetime. Everything was pristine as well. I used it for a while but eventually the camera jammed. I had it fixed by the top tech for them at the time and it still ended up jamming up again a few months later. I eventually had it serviced and sold it all. The issue is that the SL66 has a remarkably complex clockwork mechanism inside made up of some incredibly small metal parts and a few plastic pieces. Once a single gear is damaged it can cause all kinds of other stuff to fail and servicing them only delays future jams unless you’re able to replace all the parts or get lucky. These days with their age, they’re incredibly prone to jams. Hopefully you get lucky though and never have to deal with it.

    Street photography is something entirely different than doing street portraits. Both have its particular challenges, and I can't say that the one is easier than the other. I'm also doing street portraits - with a 5x7 large format camera. I sit in my wheelchair and my camera stands besides me on its tripod and I just wait what is coming. If I see someone interesting I ask for a portrait, but more often than not I'm asked what I'm doing there and people ask me to be photographed. In a busy street, there is no need to walk around all the time, the people are coming to you. Additionally, I have a medium format camera in my lap (mostly a TLR, sometimes a Pentacon Six) and do street photography with it, if something interesting comes up.

    It came out in 1955 but wasn't released till 1966 because of a gentleman's agreement between Victor Hasselblad and Rollei's founder. They agreed to not compete in each others market Hasselblad wouldn't build a twin lens if Rollei wouldn't build a SLR style camera until one of them died. Victor Hasselblad died in 1966 and Rollei released the camera, but it was a huge mistake because in every way it's a better camera than a Hasselblad, but by that time Hasselblad became the de-facto standard and Rollei never caught up.

    Neat camera. I thought Hassy and Rollei had a gentleman’s agreement to stick to their respective formats, Hassy wouldn’t do TLR and Rollei wouldn’t do SLR. Guess that wasn’t working so well for Rollei by the 60s!

      @@ribsy No not yet. I bought it and some kit with it for ...wait for it....$150 at an estate sale. The problem is finding a repair person down here (Australia) with Rollie knowledge.

    I love New Classic! I wish you offered it in hundred-foot rolls.
    When you take pictures of people in the street, do you have a card or something you give them so they can see the pictures later? I kinda want to try it, but I'm not really a people person. I also don't want to come off as creepy.

    Why does the thumbnail state "You've never heard of this camera". It's ignorant to assume people haven't heard of a Rolleiflex SL66. That's like telling people who are into cars that they haven't heard of Bentleys.
    I love Rollei's as they're superb cameras.

    • @ribsy
      @ribsy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's a thumbnail that's meant to encourage a click. don't take it so seriously

      @@ribsy LOL, why? I grew up in the yellow box and I'd much rather use digital than do chemical photography both B&W and Color that I spent a lot of time doing those filthy, rotten, polluting processes. Kodak's primadonna management were too stupid/entrenched to understand the beauty, versatility and practicality of digital.

AND ONLY FOCUSING ON THE UPPER HALF? DON'T GET ME WRONG... THOSE WERE SOME FIRE ASS SHOTS...BUT I WOULD'VE TAKEN AT LEAST 2 SHOTS OF FULL BODY -THAT GUY CAN FUCKIN POSE HIS ASS OFF!!! DOPE VIDEO!
