I did a PhD in Australia (graduated in early 2014). I remember having a really poor sleep schedule as well. Sometimes I used to stay up until 2am, usually watching TV (shows like David Letterman, the Tour de France). TV was actually my weakness and a big distraction, and possibly why it took me forever to finish my PhD.
