  • Bestselling author Jeff Pearlman joins Rich Eisen in-studio to discuss his new book ‘The Last Folk Hero’ about multi-sport legend Bo Jackson, says where Jackson’s talent ranks in the pantheon of all-time great athletes, reveals how Bo nearly ended up on the Yankees and Buccaneers instead of the Royals and Raiders, says if Aaron Judge’s 62 homers make him the legit single-season HR king, and reacts to the way his ‘Showtime’ book was dramatized for HBO’s ‘Winning Time’ that resulted in some ruffled feathers for Lakers legend Jerry West and others.

The only thing I find a bit hard to believe is the U of Georgia fans bowing a la Wayne's World. I was in high school in the mid 80s, and the bowing thing wasn't a thing until Wayne's World, which was 1989, as far as I remember anyway. But overall a good story...

The only athlete I can think of who might Rican his athleticism was Wilt Chamberlain.

So is this hagiography? I’ve come to expect some pretty interesting and rather forthright journalism from Pearlman’s work. This seems to be Pearlman acting as Bo’s autobiographer. Am I wrong?
In any case, in the conversation with a handful of others for greatest overall athlete ever. Ever.

If you lived through Bo Jackson as a thing, you would know that this is the one athlete that was so amazing that you have to speak of him this way.

The running up the wall happened in Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, not in KC

    • @sedrictony

I misspoke. But in the book it's correct. Orioles' bullpen was behind the wall. Pitchers thought Bo was coming over

@@sedrictony understandable. Just clarifying for the record that is in my mind. If I remember correctly Orsulak was the oriole who was robbed.
