i don't know why i'm crying in the club right now that's a lie, i know exactly why: brittain is an angel sent from heaven and we mere mortals do not deserve to be on the same planet as her
I'm listening to the Comet cast recording (late, I know!) for the first time, and you can definitely hear the Les Mis influence. Her voice sounds so perfect for this song.
War and Peace can be seen as having a bit of Les Mis influence, too! Basically, after the original novel of Les Misérables was published, Victor Hugo actually met with Leo Tolstoy where they talk about the novel and it's themes. This talk will later factor in Tolstoy's future development of War and Peace only five years later after the publishing of Les Misérables publishing! I sensed a connection myself as, in a way(from what I can gather as someone who hasn't read War and Peace myself), Sonya and Natasha can be seen as more fleshed out versions of elder Éponine and Cosette, Anatole and Helene could (character wise) be SOMEWHAT like younger and attractive sibling versions of the Thénardiers, and FINALLY Andrey and Old Prince Bolkonsky are also more fleshed out(or more refined) versions of Marius and his grandfather in the book(and also featured in the 2012 film of the musical). Pierre, being the MC, CAN also have some traces of Jean Valjean in him(and perhaps, when it comes to his "aging(he's actually only in his mid to late 20s in this point of the book, but his whole demeanor and intellect makes everyone around him regard him as "old")", some traces of Claude Frollo in the original novel Notre Dame De Paris(called Hunchback of Notre Dame by American translators, much to the chagrin of Hugo himself)(Basically, Frollo is actually around his 30s during the novel(and was in his 20s when he willingly adopted Quasimodo when no one else would), but by that point had already become bald, have this very dour look on his face, and a very low voice which all made him SEEM older than he actually was), and because of his size is also strong as hell(or at least can use his weight to a strong advantage) like Valjean and Quasi, but I feel those comparisons to be too simple to make honestly.
I absolutely adore this, she's just so good..... her voice can project so much emotion so perfectly, which is why these kind of songs are great for her! I love her, and I know I'm not on my own.
I think we can all agree that Brittain is officially the queen of broken-heart ballads! She's phenomenal!
