They've updated the sheaths. Now there is a belt loop, and the handle does not protrude as much. Not bad at all, considering other axes that do not even come with a sheath.
I think it’s safe to say, any hate for these products comes from a place of nostalgia, or from an aesthetic angle. Its not pretty but it’s extremely practical, durable and well priced.

I have 3 fiskars axes and they cannot be beat. I have a Gransfors SFA and it's beautiful and very capable but my X10 is faster through wood, simple. It's a perfect axe.
I have and use my 3 Fiskars (a splitting, a X7 and a X5).
My splitting is more than 15 years old and been heavily used. Still splitting a new one. Awesome very affordable reliable axes. My X7 is on every camping/kayak trips. My X5 comes with me on long remote solo hikes.
Thanks for the review. I'm a bit shat because I used my x7 on a clearing job with nothing but wood to bite into...the machete took care of vines etc...and my x7 sustained to big 'chips' about the size of a small nail each..maybe a mm or 3/4 of a mm. Its right at the end of the blade so maybe its more prone there. Stilll fully useable though I will regrind it soon. Everything you said is spot on though...killer ergos. Light weight. Does the job.
I had an X7 and X10, both hatchets worked well. A friend of mine managed to roll the edge on the x10 splitting a knot on a wild apple branch... It seems the steel is not very hard or hardened in any way, however, it can be sharpened very well and it holds an edge very well. I like the x10 so far.
Very underrated hatchet. I love my Swedish axes, and a Council Tool Velvicut, but these are a fantastically versatile and inexpensive option, and I will say you won't miss a thing compared to the high dollar offerings. I would also say that these split better than those others.

FYI. Not all the Fiskars are made in Finland. Just check the packaging when you buy.
About six years ago I found this same hatchet at a resale shop for 7
dollars basically like new. I couldn't pass up a deal that good and have
used it pretty extensively with no complaints whatsoever. The older case
doesn't have the orange locking clip but snaps securely in place and hasn't
failed yet. A short time after I bought mine I found them brand new but with a
short blade knife that fits into the hollow handle. Still use mine to this day
and it works as good as the day I bought it. Probably the best 7 dollars I
ever spent.
I have this axe. Just got back from a 3 day camping trip and this thing shreds through logs. Tbh guy in the video isn’t really using it right. If you know properly how to use a hatchet this thing will serve you well. Grab a smooth round river stone and sharpen the axe every now and then with a nice lubrication and it will last a while.
I bought this today. It's great! I used it to delimb and section a few trees I felled. I'm very happy with it. Now, it's $35, still quite a bargain.
I got one of these in 2020 and the sheath now comes with a belt loop and the head is coated with black and not grey :)

@@llNoMADll82 Must have been NOS because the design changed somewhere around 2018/2019. Honestly, I think the old style is better. It has the orange handle instead of being all black, and the handle feels more solid than the new one. The new one feels fragile.

turk here, same is true for turkish guns as well. order them from usa pay customs shipping and taxes, still cheaper than buying from the factory 100 km away.

Here is an observation I made yesterday trying to baton a machete through a 6" thick cherry log (7ft long) to make bow staves. The wood didn't want to split straight across so the machete blade bound up in a bend. Wacking the x7 head into the hairline cracks on each side using a piece of firewood as a soft hammer (walking the split down the trunk) worked better. In both cases made-on-the-spot wooden wedges were used to open the split, but it was the axe head that really did the work. I've never used a hatchet that split green wood like this one.
This axe's head is shaped more like a splitting axe (wedged shaped), although for the money this looks like a great buy!

You made a few good points as usual and demonstrated why this might be a better choice than a knife or machete. I know many people like myself feel more comfortable with knives, but at the same time I want one. Maybe it's the color or the design, but there is something so non-threatening about this axe. It looked to be more efficient and for $25 it's cheaper or on par with any machete or big heavy knife.
Your videos are so "on the money" that between you and one or two other favorite guys on here I used a gift card from Christmas and bought a few new knives. I know this is an axe video, but I wanted to post this comment. One of my choices was the SOG Seal Pup of which I was unsure, but the price was so good and it's so light and handy and as good as you described.

I've had my X7 for several years and take it hiking and camping every month. It goes everywhere with me, along with my Cold Steel Trail Master--constant companions. They are tough and reliable. Fiskars says the metal is a maintenance free stainless steel, so they are fairly maintenance free. I live way back in the Canadian woods. I love the Fiskars X7. I also have the large axe and splitter and the brush axe (bill hook) and use them a lot on my farmstead. All work great and are solid. I recently bought a Gransfors small forest axe: maybe I'll like it better. Hard to say, just yet. I do like that if the haft of the Gransfors breaks, I can replace it simply by carving another out of rock maple.

I have the large Fiskars axe and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Made small work of half a cord of wood. Wetterling's Rockwell is 57-58, by the way.

I love axes with wooden handles, I have 2 Gransfors Bruk axes, and another custom handled Plumb vintage head axe with Aussie redgum handle... Beautiful axes, but when i go bush, i leave nostalgia at the door and swing some fiskars about. Never ever had a problem with my fiskars. Incredibly light weight, and big bang for my buck. No complaints.
I've had mine since before it was labeled as X7. $19.97 at Walmart. I'd be interested in your thoughts about carrying a light hatchet vs. a heavy chopper knife since weight will be about the same.
I tried chopping some dead wood today and chipped my edge... maybe I had hit a knot like you mentioned...
Personally my favorite is fiskars x5, because of its size, weight, better sheath, 'blade' broader. The only thing is shorter handle, but in my opinion it chops as well as x7. I think you are absolutely right about x7 being a bargain, because x5 is a little more expensive, but you get a sheath to both hang and put on your belt.

Best backpacking axe easily. Got two. And Fiskars SW75. Can't beat them. But I still want Gränsfors Scandinavian Forest Axe too... Optimus Polaris multifuel stove is the best. Armytek Tiara A1 LED headlamp. Very good.

I usually eye ball it and free hand my axe heads. Not sure, thankfully the x7 is cheap and a good axe to practice on to get an excellent convex edge.

Looks like a good one. However, I think I'll stick with my Estwing hatchet. It is a work of art and a work horse on top of that. And being made in the good old U.S.A. is a big plus as well.

Hello, how has it held up over prolonged use? I've bought several items based on your reviews and I appreciate the vids. I use my stuff hard and being a Marine I value durability. For reference, I have a gransfors small axe and despite the rave bushcraft reviews I haven't been too impressed. Shocking to all, my vintage $17 buck plumb boyscout hatchet put it to shame! Thanks
The handle and head are tough, the edge is a v grind with softer steel, so a good convex would be good if you are looking for extra long edge retention. I love the hatchet for the price and performance it a champ for me.
I've had mine for over three years. It has seen plenty of abuse at camp sites as well as in my garden. Mostly the latter. Impressive little axe 👍

It is ok, it will loose its shaving sharp edge after a good days work, but will resharpen in 30 seconds.
This axe is ok as long as it doesn’t fall in a fire. I like a good handle welded to the axe head so it never, ever breaks or melts of or anything like that
A metal Handel will mess up your arms pretty fast.
In all reality regardless of what the specs of any axe says, the back end will most likely be used as a hammer at one moment it’s life. So choosing an axe That can take that type of beating is a very important step regardless of whether its your intention to do it or not. You want something that can take the abuse just in case. for this reason the X7 (which I’ve never had a problem with hammering nails, pegs, fencing, posts etc.) wins in my book. For $25 the only thing u can honestly say is that you have to sharpen in a little more often.

Just wanted to chime in and say that this is the exact same axe as the Gerber Sport Axe II. All of Gerbers axes are actually made by Fiskars. The Gerber is about $10 more on Amazon, however I'm not sure how the warranty with Fiskars works. With the Gerber name on it they will have a great lifetime warranty if you ever need it. If the Fiskars warranty is the same and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to ship it to them in Finland than it's definitely a steal!

There is a video on YT of a russian guy that broke one in his garage, lol.
But he did it on purpose, out of curiosity how this thing will hold up. He clamped it in the vice and pryed the handle with his weight (a tough guy, around 100 Kg). This baby survived all other tortures though (including beating it with a sledgehammer and others) Nevertheless he was also quite impressed with this axe and agreed that with enough will and tools you can destroy everything and it's not a dealbreaker.

And he says Fisk R's in such a forced way that at first I thought it he was trying to be silly or something... after the 10th time I want to travel time and space just to teleport to him making this video and make him acknowledge how obnoxious he sounds.

Worst idea ever. Hears why. Now if you’re working in your backyard OK not a bad idea but if you’re caring an ax or a hatchet in a survival situation or a back country situation this is the worst idea you could ever bring to the table for one simple reason if you snap the handle you have no solution now if you have a traditional axhead with the handle that goes through the head and wedged in you canCarb a new handle and you’re back on the road with this thing you have a very shiny paperweight
The feedback from people who have been working with these things for years and years - including professionals - say they use Fiskars and they just don't break. They've got the reputation as one of the toughest brands out there. The FiberComp™ shaft is supposed to be virtually unbreakable; now even if that is an exaggeration, it's still a lot less likely to break than a wooden shaft. It comes with a 25 year warranty too; meaning that they're pretty damn confident in them not breaking. Personally I prefer to take this out into the woods, confident that it won't break at all, rather than a lot of the wooden alternatives. .
