I thought you might be blown away. I was! There are 3 versions of Teeks and Holly singing Whakaaria Mai. The first time they performed it was at a remembrance concert 2 weeks after the Christchurch Mosque massacre of 51 people. That was an incredibly raw performance, and I just cried and cried. Various New Zealand artists then got together with the Salvation Army and put out an album called "The Offering", to raise funds for the families of those who died. I think you'd really like that version too, because they sing with a large youth choir, and the video begins with them speaking briefly about the project. There's also an amazing video of Hollie Smith singing "Bathe in the River" live at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland, with 2 other great New-Zealand women singing back up. If you're not feeling well, it might give you a bit of a pick-me up! Thank you for your reaction. It's so lovely to see someone connecting so deeply with the music. Take care, and hope you're better soon.

Love the reaction. Not surprised it brought you to tears. They both sung this song at the National Rememberence Service for the victim's of Christchurch Mosque Attack back in 2019... I think it brought the whole nation to tears x

I watched The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari today. The movie definitely made my eyes leak. But the closing titles hit and I lost it. The closing title song is Whakaaria Mai (How Great Thou Art). The song is in Maori, but I recognized the tune. Dad's favorite song was How Great Thou Art...he passed 12/28/07.

ThIs was my Mums favorite waiata (song). Teeks and Hollie sound absolutely amazing. But we had Sir Howard Morrison version at Mums tangi (funeral) played.

Maori is a beautiful language. Full of vowels, it has a softer more articulate sound than English that has more consonants. Teens and Hollie are great, but there are many awesome singers front New Zealand

This song always makes me cry. When my dad died this was the hymn sung in te reo maori while putting his lid on his coffin and then taking his body out of the marae to be buried at our urupa (cemetery). Every single time I hear it I'm crying.
