Grew up playing in those sandhills and learnt to surf on the inside of Castles on an old finless board PW gave me he had cut the tail end off.
    Bookabie was home. Wonderful memories.

Surfed Cactus quite a few times, especially in the nineties. Was travelling across from sunny Melbourne to West Oz for a gig at the Orient hotel in Perth. The band was Cut n Run. That time I got bogged on the way to the point. Some dude named moose towed me out. He saw I had a Les Paul in the back of my HQ holden and a Marshall stack. He invited me over to his house that night for a jam. Had a big jam with heaps of people. They fed me scones all night and I thought what wonderful people. I was tripping off my brain that night. I reckon I drove in reverse from his house all the way to the camp that night. I swear to this day, I saw the min min lights.
Anyways. South Oz is the most underated state in Australia. The adventures to be had there is unbelivable. Another time, I was at Streaky Bay and my mate and I won the meat tray raffle. Some dude named greeny and this other dude were beating the shit out of each other, then Led Zepellin came on and they were dancing with each other like best mates. Bloody hilarious... Man I will never forget South Australia.....The wierdest shit happens in South Australia...

Way back early 1970’s. The local counsel workers would come and demolish the huts and anything built by surfers. There was no official camping ground. Just tents and huts. My mate saw a great white once, it was coming straight for us, when he insisted I turned and paddled in, passed him, he was on a shorter board saw the look on his face, oh yeah he saw one. A few weeks after we left someone was attacked while diving off the jetty in the bay over back of the peninsula. We had some great surf almost every day. A choice of 3 breaks, we got water from nearest town, Penang I think it was called. Took plenty of rice and dehydrated vegetables, lots of canned stuff. It was a desert place with great uncrowded surf back in the early 70’s. It was actually really cool as it was but rough, no frills desert scrub, unsealed road coming in. The road just came to an end and a few scattered campers, that was it.

Many great memories of surfing and fishing off cunz reef.
Their was lots of loose behaviour that place attracted some characters.
Was great to see it from the air in your video
    It's a smaller place than I remember.❤

'78 , I spent 2 weeks building a board l thought would work there ( ld never seen the place but certainly heard about it ) once l was ready , l walked up to the top of my street in the Shire with new board n backpack stuck my thumb out with a road map , 2 to 3 days later , 9 lifts , l arrived at cactus put my pup tent up just back from the beach . stayed 12 days , surfed in mornings on my own barely a handful of guys there , it did seem sharky l think got away unscathed really , scorpions cruising through my tent on a daily basis .
Great memories , l got a ride to Augusta checking all the coast and waves by guys from the Peninsular , then another 12 days hitching home along the east coast surfing back to the Shire ..

Went to Cactus 1988/89, scored great waves, Caves was the best right hander I have ever surfed, over head barreling from out the back all way around the shelf, with Dolphins in the tubes.
Catching meter long salmon off the cliffs, cooking hungie on the coals, heshen bag full of home grown buds $50.00 bucks, hot chicks around in hand knitted G bangers,
Ile get back there one day 💪😎
