Been watching these kurdish dances lately but no one explains the symbolic meaning of the handkerchief, why men alone or women only, the instruments being used, and the steps of the dance itself. I do enjoy all of it.
SoulCandy AlmaDulce No all people of Kurdistan is dancing separately. For example the people who live in Turkey , they believe that their religion doesn’t accept the mixture of dancers. Therefore they try to seperate the genders as they believe it is prohibited according to Quran .

SoulCandy AlmaDulce The Scarf is called. Turban, it is Used according to Quran, recently it is been used as the beauty of the appearance. I mean they usually use some different styles of the scarf to look more beautiful.

Great dance and entertainment but why always they are so serious .
As much as these dances seem easy as the steps are pretty simple , the focus here is to stay connected to a lot of people in the same dance move as you which sometimes exceeds hundreds. Kurds practice these centuries old traditional dances by heart from very young age and master it by adulthood which makes them look easy. You’ll need great concentration to stay connected to everyone in the dance row as one wrong move or misstep could mess up the whole line easily and ruin the celebrations!
Basically the key in Kurdish dance ain’t the moves as they were invented by our ancestors many centuries ago which there are many debates what were the reasons to come up with such a moves, but the harmony, unity and concentration!
Also in Kurdish culture holding your head up and look serious is considered attractive but as you pay close attention not everyone is following it. Usually women choose to look elegant that way and you’ll see this seriousness more in females than males! When they aren’t dancing you’ll see lot more laughter and joy-fullness as our nation tries to stay happy and positive despite going through a lot of hell like durations. These dances and music keep us on our feet to fight the discriminations and abuses we go through living in Middle East! They do the same effect of yoga on us😂
