its simple. Open a demat account and trading account with the help of a stock broker or directly. Buy the virtual gold shares or gold bees as they call it from the banks listed in the share market. Eg. Nippon Gold bees or HDFC gold bees or SBI gold bees etc..
When u want to sell it, inform ur stock broker to sell. and the money gets credited in ur bank the next day. Its very quick and simple

To purchase gold coin or gold bees will fetch good appreciation in future no doubt but it will not give passive income regularly but it's price are to be upward that is called Capital gain
In my perception passive income are dividend interest rent copy rights but purchasing gold coin or gold bees are not come under the purview of passive income if not please reply I will correct the concept
