M. SHADOWS TALKS ABOUT THE REV
I don't know how to start this or know where to begin. First I would like to thank all the fans for their support through the passing of Jimmy. It has been comforting to see his fans, our fans, and everyone in general give their support. Jimmy was my best friend, as he was best friends with many other people including the members of Avenged Sevenfold. He was hands down the greatest person I have ever known. I told him I loved him everyday. He demanded your love and was never afraid to give it back. I have walked side by side with Jimmy, everyday, for the last 18 years of my life. I have no memories before Jimmy, and it's going to be damn hard to move forward without him here. It still doesn't seem real. He was my best friend, songwriting partner, band mate, confidant, and most importantly, he was my brother. The crazy thing about Jimmy was that everyday was a crazy story. We have told our favorite Jimmy stories for the last 2 weeks and never have we repeated ourselves. This guy was magical. The out pour of art from his soul was unlike the world has ever seen. Unless you spent a day with Jimmy, or 18 years, it's impossible to explain, so I'm not going to try. He inspired people in different ways. He wasn't just a drummer, he honestly didn't care so much for the technical side of drums, cause he could play anything he wanted. He was all about creating beautiful songs, original fills and hopefully touching people with his art and mind. He told all of us for years, including his parents, that he knew two things in life. He wanted to be a rockstar, and that he wasn't going to live past 30 years old. He was right on both accounts, but I know Jimmy, and if he knew how much pain this would cause for the ones he left behind, he would have done anything he could to stick around a little longer. Jimmy gave so much and in the end it was his time to go. All my reasons for wanting him to stay are selfish and I know he is in a better place then this, so in a way I'm joyful that my best friend is now at peace. He made it to the other side first and I can't wait to hang with him again. I have so much to say but can't find the words so I will wait until time can allow me to find a way to express myself. As for the rest of us, it has become clear what we need to do. We had just finished writing a record with Jimmy. I can't promise what the future holds because right now it's too painful to think about, but we know we need to record and put out this record in honor of Jimmy, for Jimmy. He would call me every night to talk about songs and tell me "this shit is gonna change the world." I agreed with him, unfortunately I didn't know it would be on these terms. Please be patient with us for we cannot imagine how hard this is gonna be to get through, we just know we have to do it for his legacy. After that, who knows? But I know Jimmy will help us make that decision when the time comes. I love you Jimmy and I feel like the luckiest man in the world to have known you and spent 18 years of my life with you. Rest in Peace my friend.

I remember when I was 8 or 9, my uncle took my brother and I to see Avenged Sevenfold and we happened to meet Jimmy at the meet and greet. He had such a warm heart and wonderful laugh. he signed my drum sticks and my shirt and told me to never give up on my dreams. when I heard he had passed, my heart broke in millions of pieces. He was amazing and such a great drummer. Rock in paradise, Rev. 😔

I remember the day he passed. I was 15, going on 16 and me and my brother were huge fans. Me and him were helping my dad with something and my brother went to go get water and he came back with tears in his eyes and told me the news and i almost broke down right then and there. It's hard for me to listen to the album Nightmare because Jimmy is the only person i can think about. I came back to this video to mourn my brother and remember the talks we had about Jimmy and the band and what we thought they would do next. I'm still a fan of this band to this day and I'm eager to see what is next for a new album. I will and always, almost 10 years later, remember that day when the first person to motivate me to play the drums left this world.

Oh dude, my best friends and I were only 14 at that time. It was one of my best friends who called me first. She was crying non stop so I just couldn't grasp what she said. After like 5-10 mins on the phone she finally calmed down and she told me that Jimmy had passed away. It just felt so surreal. I couldn't believe it at first. It felt real when the next day we met at school and she cried again, me and my other best friend tried to calm her down only to find ourselves crying too. I still can't forget all the memories we had when we're really enjoying ourselves fangirling over a7x back in middle school. Jimmy was so loved so cherised, even from the other side of the earth. He left so young. He would be in our hearts foREVer.

Same. Jimmy was an AMAZING human being and musician. One of the most talented dudes ever. His death, has been the only death in music that brought me to tears and depressed for days, and I was 27 at the time.

I Lost my dad in 2013. I was already listening to Avenged Sevenfold. He took me to my first concert in Paris. The first concert was the Nightmare tour. I will never be able to see the rev live but i know one thing... He's still here with us. Because the Rev is Avenged Sevenfold. 🤘🖤🙏💪
I'm grateful to have seen A7X live in 2009 in Hawai'i, just before he passed. I still remember it like yesterday. They played phenomenally, just like you'd hear it off their albums. Before that concert began, I would binge and replay their live LBC performance. Then, hearing about The Rev's passing absolutely crushed me. He was my favorite amongst the group and the sole reason why I started playing drums. 14 years later and I still get emotional. RIP The Rev!

Back in 2011 I was 10 years old and I listened to my first A7X song on my dads trash laptop and was instantly hooked. I remember looking up the cast and saying man this guy is just wild. 10 years later I still love this band but it just isn't the same without the Rev. RIP Jimmy we still love you.

I was a big fan of him when I was 12. When my brother came back home and bring the news about the rev's death I was literally so shocked that I couldn't even eat or do anything that day. But I still listen to their album until high school. Seeing him in this tribute bring so much memories, thank you.

I never rewatch this video probably since it was first released, which was 11 years ago because I was so heart broken and cried so hard for a few days after I watched this the first time, since then I decided to not see this video ever again. But here I am back again 11 years after, because youtube decided to recommended this to me randomly in the end of May 2024. And I am honestly glad that I’m not crying anymore while watching this, but I have this bittersweet feelings throughout the video. It felt surreal that in this video they were all exactly my age right now, yet they’ve achieved so much but also lost Jimmy along the way. He did great and they’re all still do up until now which amazing. Jimmy lived an amazing life and loved by many. I miss him always💔🥀

As a fan and a fellow musician I would like to say that rev and syn are probably my two biggest inspirations. I had the honor of meeting rev at a concert about 2 or 3 years before he died and he was one of the nicest and coolest people I've ever met from my heart to the band I say rest in peace jimmy you are an inspiration to me and I will always carry on that memory when I play guitar. And a for syn I met him at uproar fest again one of the coolest people I've ever met and I would like to thank the entire band for being an inspiration and I wish you all luck.

Im really not sure if I'm going to get hate on this. Jimmy has always been my biggest inspiration, not only for drumming, but for the way I live. I have learned not to be afraid of showing who I truly am. I don't know why, but I always forget that he is gone. I'm only 12 and he's been my role model since i was 5. I will watch a live show on youtube in which he was still alive, and just feel a connection. I always have the expectation that I'll see him at a show. I never even met the man in real life, yet I feel such a close bond. I'm not sure if any of you feel the same way, but all i have to say is Rest In Peace, foREVer.
