Amazing how voracious those baby yellowfin are. I'm not sure how you didn't get bit every bite on the jig, I'm guessing it's because whoever is using the jig is just letting it float instead of winding it in, setting the hook. When we played with the tuna it was all I could do to start winding my jig in before it was smashed by tons of those hungry fish.
yup i thought that was capt pat! he's an awesome skipper. i was on the trip about 3 weeks before this and we did real well on the tuna as well. capt pat is quite the fishy guy, i've been on lots of boats, but he's really something else when he has a rod in his hand, jus dont talk crap about his 9ft rainshadow rod LOL
I've been on one of these long liner trips one time. my only problem with them is it feels like so much tuna goes to waste. there's guys bringing home 800 pounds plus of Yellowfin some smaller bluefins and other types and it's just like how are you going to go through that much fish a lot of it's going to go bad. When I went I released pretty much all of my tuna except I kept two yellow fins in the 30-pound range I think those are the best and one 100 pound bluefin and the only reason I kept the Bluefin is because I had a few people that were going to take some that I knew would eat it all and I kept a little bit that I knew I could eat in the span of two days so it stays fresh. if I kept everything I caught I would have had a thousand pounds worth of fish. If I could sell that fish legally that I would keep it LOL of course try to offset the price of the trip a little bit. But it seems like nobody was releasing any tuna even though they had more than enough. the only time I seen any go overboard as if they didn't meet limits or that person was over.
Plenty of fish were released Jon. We did also give away more than half our fish which were all vacuum sealed sashimi grade to friends and family. The fish were all consumed from what I know.

Hey Rob, could you post a slow motion video from 11:16 when a tuna pierces the surface with its fin and generates an air vortex?
use the slow mo under the settings for watching my video @ .25 speed
