  • We have raised meat rabbits on our homestead for several years. Here is how we got started, some of the basics you should know (housing, breeds, feed, processing), and more.
    I will post more in-depth, individual, videos on each topic in the coming weeks. This is just a general broad range video. Sorry it's so long!

      +Ozark Mountain Girl Thanks so much! Pedigrees can be tricky at first, but well worth it if you're trying to reclaim your money back on these rabbits.

    I have some American Blues that look just like them. I did two videos on them on my channel. What do you think?

    In the UK you can enter a show when they are 12 weeks of age

    Check out the hopper popper it's the best way I've seen on the internet to dispatch your rabbits. Hoping to get my own rabbits soon :)

    Help! These videos have been so helpful!:) I have come to a problem. My Netherland dwarf (much larger than a regular dwarf) I think she is lacking one of the dwarf genes making her about 3-3.5 maybe 4 pounds. I'm trying to breed her to a mini lop who is also a bit large for his breed 4-5 pounds. The first night I got the male apparently in the night my doe got into his cage! I missed being able to tell if they bred. The next day I put them together and watched the whole time he was not interested at all and she humped him plenty. The next day I put them together he was more interested and sniffed her and chased her but no humping. But she started squeaking and growling the whole time. Then two days later I put them together and he was humping her like crazy! He was biting her and pulling her hair out though. She kept squeaking I thought I'd try holding her down because he couldn't get the job done or do the fall. When I held her down before he could get the job done she'd wiggle out of my grasp. She's a little under 1 and he is 1. They are both first timers as am I. Any advice to tell if she's pregnant?

      I would give it 2 weeks and then try to palpate. There are some great videos on how to palpate on YT :)

    I just got a (9) week old rabbit. She has diarrhea? I did switch her food from Blue Seal to Oxbow. What can I do for her? I went to check again and her stool is solid. I was holding and petting her and my (2) yr old buck stamped his feet three times. He never wants to be held or petted?

    • @TheFewellHomestead
      @TheFewellHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its probably from the food change. Hopefully it evened out for you! You'll have to hold her every day to get her used to you

    • @portiaholliday8741
      @portiaholliday8741 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I do need to hold her daily. Since I haven't been holding her she nibbles on my sweater when I go down to change her water.

    Interesting that you said there were no good rabbits in VA. If you are in VA you might consider Polyface Farms. Joel Salatin and his son have been line breeding meat rabbits for oh.... dunno... 15 years or so? Very good intro video btw. I enjoyed watching it. :)

    • @TheFewellHomestead
      @TheFewellHomestead  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron Anderson I'm not sure I said there were no good rabbits in VA. I said there weren't any REX rabbit breeders in va. And there really still aren't. As far as meat rabbits, they are abundant in VA
