The writers wanted this episode to focus on the inner Connor circle so they had the call go to voicemail, giving the viewers an answer as to why Rana wasn't in the episode. She was probably at work since she is a nurse and can't be available to answer her phone at all times. She will be in tonight's episode, comforting Kate though.
@@starrynyts1844 plus she was always with alia when luke dead taking care of z's family present in every function and she tried so hard to unite z's family. When it comes to kates family she is always absent and say you got this family what I got and she don't did that with z that time she does not miss her parents sometimes I doubt she really loves her or not. I am new to this series.

That is what called bad writing absolutely bad. This story started so well but it goes so wrong now there is hardly viewers I guess.
