- Easiest way to do a rear differential fluid change on a Nissan Silvia S14 S13 S15 or 240SX. Going with some Redline 75w90 Gear Oil for my rear diff on my Silvia S14 K'S. This redline gear oil is fully synthetic and rated GL-5 which is perfect for the Silvia's rear differential. You will need 2 quarts to get this job done. I will show you the easy way to refill the rear differential using a funnel and long tube. Much easier than a hand pump. Let gravity do the work for you and relax while waiting.

If you think the rear diff is making some noise that it shouldn't, it would be good to check the diff backlash. It's actually really easy and the service manual should give you a procedure and a measurement for it. You don't have to take anything apart. You just need the car up like you have it here where you can get your hand around the propeller shaft and rotate it back and forth with the trans in neutral. In the DSM factory manual it is called "Rear axle total backlash check". Prob something similar for your car.

Why don't use a large metal syringe? No mess and you just squirt the excess back in the bottle. Also I don't waste my time with that Nissan liquid gasket, teflon tape works just fine and is instantaneous.
