I really wish I knew the full story on these 1980 demos. I’ve heard that they were originally recorded by Colin and Robert as Wire, for an intended 4th album, but then EMI cancelled their contract and left them in the lurch, so Colin and Robert decided to re-record the songs with Desmond Simmons and Mike Thorne and release them as the “A-Z” album, though some of them (like this one) weren’t recorded/released until the “Not To” album a couple of years later. It’s hard for me to say which version of this song I like better. I’m a longtime fan of the album version, but there’s just something great about this more punked up, stripped down version that scratches a whole different itch. “We’ve come to see what’s left of you…”

“We’ve come to see what’s left of you…”
Anthem for many many an emotionally compromised reunion.
Anthem for the comedy / tragedy of aging in general.
I love you Colin.
Weve come to see the empty shell of you. A decrepit facsimile.
Brilliant song, up there with early Wire!
This version is way better than the not to version
Yeah this one is so so so good
Very, very different than what was eventually released. I like it quite a bit.
esta version es genial
Needs more atention as deserved tbh
I can feel this one in my bones.
