    I have now produced an update on my Athlet ownership th-cam.com/video/RKujJKSyMZI/w-d-xo.html

    I have the Athlet 32v, which is a great machine to use, but has had issues requiring engineer call outs. The first was intermittent, albeit brief, cut outs. The engineer gave me a new handle and told me it was a common fault. A few months later the brush stopped spinning, and I was given a new head. Again, I was told it was a fairly common fault. I now have a failing battery, 15 months after purchase. The battery will last long enough to do the hardwood floors downstairs, but not the carpeted (that use more power) floors upstairs.The power has also started to cut out again on the handle switch, but only a few times so far.
    To Bosch's credit they have booked another engineers visit within a couple of days, I half expected to hear the battery is not covered by their warranty. I have several Bosch Professional cordless tools, and even with daily use expect to get five year's use out of the battery, and even the high capacity packs can be found for less than half the cost of this battery. I only paid £150 for the vacuum, new, on eBay, so I suppose it doesn't owe me much if I can make it last four/five years, but why do we have this throw-away society? Capitalism.

    I’ve had one for 4 years and it’s barely lasting 3 minutes now on the full power setting. The battery life was never good but it’s a good vacuum, I’ll buy another one. Only problem was that the connection between handle and main body was dodgy at the contacts so I hard wired them, easy job. Considered doing a diy battery swop but as this bloke said, it’s barely worth the effort.

    Thanks to everyone for all this information. I have had two of the Bosch Athlet. The handle snapped on the first one. I thought it must have been my fault so I just chucked it and got a new one as I had been very happy with it. Now I know that I could have replaced the handle.
    The battery charging lights started to fail after about a year. That is when I should have used the warranty. However, it was still working so I didn't take any notice. Now it has stopped altogether and it is just outside the two year warranty!! This is really putting me off purchasing an electric vehicle as I planned.
    So summing up: I cannot recommend this product and will not be buying another one. I will miss not having to go through the rigmarole of putting it all together and replugging it into wall sockets in different rooms.
    Any recommendations for one that will last the distance?

    Hi I have a bosch athlet 25.2v. I replaced the battery but now the problem is it doesn't charge. The light comes on blinking for a couple of times and then it's off. I tested the slow blow fuse and nothing is broken. It just doesn't charge. I used the same replacement battery

    People buying Bosch again or buying the replacement are the source of this problem. My batter lasted a year - no more Bosh, Dyson and Bose in my house. I have Samsung hoover now. So far so good (4 months)

    WOW! After reading most initial comments to this, almost everyone has had their Bosch vacuums running for about 4 years before needing a new battery. Mine is 8 months old!! It only charges to the 2/3 light indicators only. So no 100% to start with...
    Good Vacuum, garbage battery. Basically a useless equipment overall.
    Another reason to never get a Tesla! Its like a car with bad fuel.

    • @fiveminuteman

      If it's only 8 months old check with Bosch as it's probably still under warranty. I had a Bosch technician come out and change the battery pack on one of mine.

  • @Stokie_Helen

    Mine's coming up for four years old in May and it's doing the "I can't cope with more than 5 minutes hoovering" thing. Annoying. My mum's vacuum is 30 years old and still works beautifully, unlike the Dyson which died after a year. I hate this throwaway attitude!

    • @fiveminuteman

      The Athlet is a bit of a Marmite machine. Once all filters have been cleaned and bin emptied it cleans carpets really well. Going cordless and relying on Lithium ion batteries instantly gives cordless machines a 3-4 year useful life. Expect soon someone will reinvent corded machines 😁

    Like you, my bosch keeps draining very quickly. No way will I buy a replacement battery at those prices. It is handy for downstairs and I have a shark lift away up and a Henry. They are more reliable than a cordless hoover.!

    ME TOO ! movement on how poor the Bosch Athlet vacume cleaner is ! What they should have done is a recall and replaced the cleaners at least if the second failed after 2 years you would at least get 4 years all up from the 2 machines. Don't buy Bosch

      Vince Chow check the warranty with Bosch. Next time a pack goes im going to rip the battery pack apart and rebuild with 18650s. Dyson advert last night on TV said they were dropping corded vacuum cleaners so every 3 years a new battery or cleaner will be required. I have a corded dyson thats 20 years old.😀

    I have two Bosch cleaners and both have lost all power,. Bosch will sell the batteries for £199 each cleaner! Its a scandal!! My handle snapped as did yours. They did replace that whilst under warranty. I am waiting to hear if they will replace the batteries. The new version is £259 and may only last three years like mike. Its an absolute scandal. My old Henry is forty years old and still working perfectly. Shame on Bosch

    One of the three Bosch Athlets has again a degraded lithium battery so fully charged and after 5 minutes use blue bars go to one. I'm going to rip
    and strip the beast to look at failed lithium 18650 cells and how to replace.

    • @emanuele933
      @emanuele933 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you know where are the cells? in the handle or in the "motor" zone? there are a 6 cells in series to make 25.2v (probably one of them is failed and throw down the others, like in laptop battery, which are the same cells :D )

    "How to resolve" indicates a solution to the problem. Using warranty just means handing the problem over to someone else.
    You get a down vote because of misleading text in intro.

    • @fiveminuteman
      @fiveminuteman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolute rubbish, depends on your ability and always check the warranty first. There is another video where cells are replaced and a wealth of information is provided. Using a warranty is common sense and for the majority of people they may not realise their unit is still under warranty.

    I've had mine nearly 4 years and it's only recently died. Called Bosch and was told £110 for the repair plus £174 for a new battery pack which adds up to £30 more than I paid for it! It's going to the dump! :(
    Can anyone recommend a better replacement please?

    • @fiveminuteman
      @fiveminuteman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say dyson but interesting to see what others say. On Ebay the motor heads go for £30, handles £17 and someone somewhere will prob buy the body or just ebay the whole lot. I have another failing battery pack so will look at buying the batteries off eBay and refitting. I think it's a sign of the times with lithium vacuum cleaners that the batteries won't last much longer than 4 years. Dyson are now talking about switching to battery only cleaners and dropping corded altogether. If you have laminate flooring consider a cheap robot cleaner. I bought one off amazon and reviewed it in one of my videos. Quite handy for hard to reach areas but would never use one on carpet.👍

    I'm not going to spend more on replacement batteries than I paid for it in the first place. So, what is to be done? I will probably take it to the recycling site where it will be 'dealt with' (incinerated).
