    I was issued the old mountain bag. I loved it. It was a bit heavy but it kept me warm in the cold winter in Germany while I was in the infantry. Even with snow on me in the morning, I was nice and toasty. I was always cold in the synthetic filled bags.

    Blackie, keep your eyes open for Polish Army sleeping pad, green cotton canvas with down filling. Super comfortable, and the one I just got from a surplus store here in the UK was brand new and cheap. If Sportsmans Guide or whatever gets them in stock, consider getting one. Very warm, and very comfortable. 👍

    Perfect timing! I just bought a 1957 stamped M-1949 sleeping bag because you recommended it. Very difficult to get one in large here in Germany. Thank you very much for all your knowledge you share with us!

    If you ever get a chance ,and you might have one already, but try the newer style sleep system, my old down bags can't compair to it, the one with the gortex bivy cover, green bag, black bag, man you can't stay in that long with them all together on a even cold night, love them so much I'm got my 4 th one, they are a bit pricy but worth it and their good to well below zero all 3 bags together.

    I still have my extreme cold weather sleeping bag from when I was in the military in the 80s. I took the cover off, got my army wool blanket and had a buddy sew the wool blanket into the cover several yrs ago. I use that for camping in mild temps. It's much lighter and alot more compact. I bought a Kelty sleeping bag about 5 yrs ago at REI. I can't believe how much lighter and more compact it is.

    I like to lace up the top hood around my head like the drawstring in a hood. Put a couple cord locks on it and you can cinch the top of the bag around your head.

    Hi Blackie, thanks for the video. I'll have to call Kaufman's, I know you gave the information on an earlier video. But now I think I can afford to order one. 👍

    Just found my cover. Need to repair a few holes and it will be ready as a summer sleeping bag or to attach to the Army sleeping bags I have. I have the intermediate and the extreme cold weather bag. I always thought it snapped to the bag. Now I know.

    You can get new and fancy with modern materials and for a lot of money, but this set up is as good as it gets in the right conditions...meaning not wet.

    What have you found is the best way to attach sleep kits to a pack that doesn't have attachment points? What tips/tricks do you suggest.

      add bushcraft rip ties to the lower shoulder straps so the bag will hang under the pack when you carry it

    I just bought a 1984 us military intermediate cold weather sleeping bag that came with a M-1945 canvas cover, $55.99 out the door. From the pictures The sleeping bag doesn't seem to have the gromet holes, so it can't be laced together. Is there a different cover made for this bag?
    DLA 100-84-C-4299 or was this the cover that was used/issued with this bag. It looks like it will still work just wont be tied together. Any ideas? I was Navy so I don't know much about sleeping bags. This will be my first military bag.

    Yeah I traded mine out for a Arctic bag back when I was serving in Georgia I don't have to worry about the weight cause I carry that on the tank Can anybody explain to me why is it when you're rolling something up the top layer always pulls off to one side or the next

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  ปีที่แล้ว

      lol that loft in middle wants to squeeze out the side

    Well when I was in service the sleeping bag I had it did not tie tighter it snapped together the bivy for the sleeping bag I had it all snapped together never seen that ties together what year bag had all snaps on them plus the sleeping bag had a zipper on it a nice big brass zipper. And out in the field had a eastern diamond back crawl in the dag with me that was the first time I seen a black guy turn white it was a big snake and it was not happy being pulled out of the bag

      i use woolight in the bathtub.. do a gentle soak and then pop plug and let drain for a hr.. then carry out side spread on flat surface let dry it will take a few days really for it to fully dry if you have access to a big dryer and you can set it on air no heat once the bag seems fully dry tumble it a bit to fluff it back up

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i use spray waterproofer you get in sporting goods at walmart sorry
      cant recall the name right now

    • @NikonRules303
      @NikonRules303 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BLACKIETHOMAS I know the one. It has an orange cap I believe. I picked up a cover with a few holes in it for $10 at the Relic Room in the Smokey Mountain Knife Works. They had a couple at that price. I stitched it up and replaced a few of the snaps from a cheap kit at Walmart for just a few bucks. Easy to do! Now all I need to do is spray with waterproofing and I have myself a multipurpose piece of kit. I was really glad you made this video!!! I have been wondering how to do that.
