    Hello Subie. I am going to wet shave my head (until yet trimming with clipper on 0.5mm for more than 25 years) with 2 razors I ordered online: The Leaf (pivoting head w. 3 slots) and the Leaf Thorn.
    Hope everything will go all right.
    Thanks for inspiring me to go straight to head shave and wish you all the best and health.
    Many greetings from the Czech Republic .

      That is wonderful to hear!!! It does the exact same thing for me, atleast twice more comfortable than a single blade for some reason. That's why I talk about it 👍😆

    Had the twig and hated it. Didnt shave close at all. Got the thorn and love it. Tried the leaf the head shaving it cut the hell out of my head. Gonna try to use this on my head. Sick of skull shavers breaking and sending them back in on warranty

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You'll laugh but I have seen debates where people say they are the same razor 🤣🤣🤣
      I have drastically different shaves between the two of them - to the point I no longer use my Twig. With the Leaf? I'm curious - did you try using just the top slot (or middle top)? I find that bottom blade angle takes some adjustment to learn and most people naturally should probably start with the top and middle based on cartridge familiarity.
      The Thorn though in my opinion makes an excellent shaver!! You should watch the video where I race Adam of Leaf - he uses the Leaf and I Use the Thorn!
      th-cam.com/video/epDIEkCwM9A/w-d-xo.html
      Quality is a little bit rough but it was fun to do! 🤣

      They are way different. Thorn is much better for shaving. Twig took way too many passes. I used all three blades for the leaf. My head was sliced up. Partially due to the irritation the skull shaver caused. I’ve had 4 skull shavers break on me… 4. Got new ones under warranty and sold them. Will never buy again. I have a free bird coming to try it out. Been using Barbasol 6 blade and they work well for the head. For the face, thorn all the way. Gonna try the thorn on my head today.

      @@SubieShaves it shaves the head well. No irritation or cuts at all. Just takes a while. It’ll undoubtedly get faster the more I use it though.

    Thanks for the content! So what is different in design leading to different performance in twig/ thorn? Isn't the shave based more off of the razor? Also do you still get a solid shave with only one blade instead of doubling up? ✌

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm so glad that you have enjoyed the content! The design changes between The Twig and the thorn are very marginal, and nothing that can be seen visually. To avoid getting super technical, it has more blade span.
      And absolutely!! I just enjoy the doubled up blades Personally haha

    • @pascal_75

      I recently ordered the Thorn razor, but they sent me the Twig.
      I emailed them about it and they said the Thorn was out of stock and that I could keep the Twig and they will send me a Thorn when they are back available.
      I live in Belgium so it took a while to get here and the return date expired.
      I'll probably have to pay twice for what basically is not my mistake.
      I hope the Thorn shaves better as I can not get a BBS shave with the Twig.
      Your videos are great BTW 👍, very informative and I like your positivism.

  • @groovemerchant99
    @groovemerchant99 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You probably get asked this all the time, but for someone coming from a Gillette Fusion 5 blade monstrosity, would you recommend a Twig or a Thorn as the place to start?

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Honestly, in my opinion, I find staring with a really mild razor like the Twig can be challenging because:
      A) it can limit closeness and cause a new shaver to go back to their cart. With good form and the right blade the Twig is excellent, but for a new shaver, finding the right combo may be a limitation.
      B) potentially hinder the learning /adjustment to using a safety razor coming from a cart.
      For me, I have noticable amounts of efficiency and performance between the two models (not everyone feels that way) - and I prefer the closer shave with the Thorn. Both will bite you with bad form, so my thoughts are go for the closer shaver. Again that's just my .02 - the flip side is I do know many people that enjoy the Twig over the Thorn. Very much a "use what your skin and stubble needs".

  • @dflosounds
    @dflosounds 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for doing this comparison. I had my trigger finger ready to buy the regular Twig, but wanted to do one last TH-cam search for reviews before I bought it. I honestly didn't even know about the Thorn edition. This has got me thinking of going for the Thorn (although it seems like I can't really go wrong with either). Your personality is uplifting and makes me excited to get deeper into the shaving hobby. Keep it up!

    Wow, great points! You're right, the Twig was never meant to be a solo shaver. It was more of an add-on for people that wanted to trim goatees or something. I currently have the Leaf and it's great, but I struggle with getting around the ears, and it clogs easily. You sold me on the Thorn.

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the older videos right here - thanks for watching!! Ears is the leafs biggest issue (and under the nose 🤣). I love the Thorn as a solo driver! Just enough bite to get a BBS glass shave without much hassle at all.

    I have the Thorn, and I have to say without a doubt it's the best razor out there. Well, the best that I have used so far. I personally went out and purchased 6 other razors so I can put them up against the Thorn. I used the extremely sharp Feather blades in each. None of them gave me the close comfortable shave that the Thorn delivered. Now, I will confess that I didn't compare the Thorn with the Twig, simply because some reviewers said that there is not much of a difference. So, after watching your video and listening to your comments about both, I might very well pick up the Twig. But, for now, the Thorn rules supreme!

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting to hear that they felt they were so similar. I have heard the exact opposite - where since they look identical people underestimate the Thorn coming from the Twig and get a rough shave. The Twig is much more mild for me, and I prefer the Thorn.

    Hi there! I like to shave my face daily and my head once a week. I picked up a twig to do both and then found your video. I found I had to do many passes and it took a long time and still left some stubble. Do you think I would benefit more from the thorn if I only shave my head once a week? Or should I use a more aggressive blade in my twig? I'm new to safety blade shaving and figured the twig would be a good place to start. Ideally I'd like the shave to be as efficient as possible with little to no irritation. Thanks!

      @SubieShaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well good morning and WELCOME to safety razor shaving!! Thank you so much for coming to the channel, and for JOINING the squad!!! Your subscription is beyond appreciated!!
      To be perfectly honest, the Twig is a wonderful place to start for new shavers - but even with a very sharp blade, I think getting a weeks worth of growth down will be a struggle for it. I find the Twig works great till about day 3, then I go for the Thorn. I can't say I've tried to shave off a more than 7 days growth with the Thorn though - or any razor - as the longest I have gone in-between shaves in 2 year's is 6 days. Usually I go for my leaf when I need to take down that much growth.
      Irritation can be caused by so many things, from blade chatter, to lather, or even pressure from pressing. I find irritation actually gets better as you learn and practice the Shave. Just my 02 cents.
      You can always see if leaf will do an exchange with their 30 day warranty - or you could try a sharper blade and see if that will work? Another option would be to try shaving 2-3 times a week and see if that works better. 👍🧨❤️

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah 2 Feathers in the Thorn is going to be a pretty aggressive shave - definitely going to have more feel and performance. I would definitely say try a more medium sharp blade - and use less pressure. It can forsure bite.

    So I have a Head Blade Moto S4 and a Van Der Hagen DE safety razor. It’s hard to beat the shave I can get with the Head Blade but the cartridges are expensive. With the DE, the shave is really inconsistent and takes forever if I don’t want to cut myself. I’m looking at saving up for the leaf but I’m wondering since the twig is a bit more affordable whether it would be worthwhile to get just the Twig. Also is the Twig a lot safer than a DE?

    • @SubieShaves
      @SubieShaves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some great questions here - and definitely hard to answer this without being bias, but the Twig definitely can cut you just as bad as a DE if your not careful. It's got a pre-built in angle, and a light head - so I would say it's an easier shave (for me) and a good way to learn how to approach DE Shaving. For me - the day I felt like I mastered the Twig/Thorn, was also the day I felt like I could DE entire head without issue. The Thorn really did show me form, without giving me as many cuts. So worthwhile - absolutely - but it is different than the Leaf.
      The Leaf is really unique - and LeafShave should be proud of their razor. It's easy to use, approachable, shaves 10x better than my Mach3 did - without irritation or expensive carts. Its also much better for me than the headblade (yellow) ever worked for me (that thing cut the crap out of my head).
      Everytime I use the Leaf, I get a perfect done shave - and my dad swears his shave lasts three days with his haha as a bald dude - it's a razor that's nearly impossible to beat (again my opinion here)
      I'll say this - a leaf shave for me - Is AS good as a perfect Slant Razor shave. Closeness, comfort - with 10x less effort. It's not a magic tool, and you still need to exercise good form and proper technique - but it'll keep up with anything in my humble opinion.
