The Boy in the Dress - (Ballet Dance for solo piano) Barnabas Sharp

A dance for solo piano inspired by David Walliams' novel.
There are distinct themes that represent parts of the story: A sporty fanfare focussing on the comfortably 'masculine' theme of sport, inspired by the 'Match of the Day' theme. A more emotional melody that's calmer, a descending melodic line that feels fragmented as Dennis gets use to his feelings as he wears the dress, as he continues to build his confidence so does the music which ends with a complete descending major scale. The team from Maudlin street are playing dirty and will surely win, who will save the day? Dennis' emotional theme fits into the fast-paced tempo of the football match as he and his teammates don dresses and claim their victory. As his friends and family watch on, he finally feels at balance with himself.
