I’ve said it before, you should both have your own tv show, could watch you both all day, great knowledge, banter etc etc! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 what a beautiful sounding, looking bike!
So in awe at James after all he's been through, to still have the passion and excitement of a small child, yet have the knowledge of many years on these bikes. You two have the same sense of humour, and seem to get on so well, it's great to see. Awesome video, thanks.
Jim is the reason I'm a huge Yamaha fan, watching him demolish the field on the Fast Orange YZF was my introduction to racing. Sometime later my dad bought a TZ350 outfit, fun times were had. Jim even had chairs on at some of the trackdays he ran, just the nicest bloke in racing. Brilliant to see Lee and Jim together, not to mention the ultimate racing motorcycle of all time. More please.
Thank you so much Lee, at 58:23 when Jamie mentioned Butch.....I was back in "Nam....I spent 4 GP's in the Paddock with Padgetts in 94. Butch is a legend, Huddersfield lad, I will never forget the Czech GP afterparty. I had shivers going up my spine. Thanks again from Australia.
My friends, if you're all childs of the 80s and 90s, and remember these going round puffing and screaming that music, you know how good it felt to hear that running at the end. And that was a nice jorney. 🙂loved the whole video, many thanks
Great video brought back fond memories of when I worked at Heron Suzuki building the first carbon frames with Nigel Leaper (the designer). I worked on Rob Macs bikes, Paul Lewis's bikes and Kevin Schwantz's bikes, great times 🙂
I don't care what anyone says, 2 stroke GP bikes were the absolute dogs danglies. That made my spine tingle when it fired up. Absolutely gorgeous, cracking job guys 👌👍
I love your videos Lee and James is a long standing hero of mine, I remember hearing about his illness at the peak of his powers. That noise at the end of the 4 pot running is like your favorite rock song plus 90%
This vid is brilliant. Jamie was a great racer but he’s a greater person. Love his knowledge level and his stories. The two of you should do a double act and tour uk with show.
You enjoyed making it. I very much enjoyed watching it. Two kids in a sweet shop, priceless. To see Jim in Roc Yamaha leathers riding it would be icing on the cake.
Thanks Lee for taking the effort and time to record all this.Say thanks to Jim as well. What an epic.I loved it.I think Christy does the editing so thanks.
I was an apprentice at B+M MOTORCYCLES when Kevin Mitchells 500 turned up.Iwas allowed to clean the wheels. Kev took me to a few GPs.I was in awe. This launched me into a career.Jamie was on the Durex Suzuki at the time and was my favourite sbk rider along with Trevor Nation.Good times.
The sound when it first fired up, brilliant. Just as good as the big kids look on both your faces! Takes me back to the odd occasion when I was fortunate enough to be in the paddock at Oulton Park back in the 70's with loads of TZs and RG500s.
That's probably the first time I've heard James speak about his cancer I know he had suffered it twice being as I two have suffered from hodgkins lymphoma on two occasions with a seven year gap unfortunately that wasn't the end of my cancer journey however it's great to see James looking well and enjoying life it's clear to see he is a happy man in a shed more power to you James would love to meet you sometime a bit off good therapy 👍
Sounds amazing. Love Jamie. I love his LC. I grew up on DTs and LCs. I prefer blue and white but his is lovely. Great to see you looking so well. Hopefully this year things will fall into place. Best of luck to you both. Nice vid great editing.
I am loving this rebuild. Whit is an inspiration after all he has been through. I remember riding to Scarborough in what must've been the late 80s to watch him tear round on a teapot gsx600f. The guy is a legend. Great work, both of you and very enjoyable to watch
Remember following BSB going to all the races on my ZX7 (girlfriend on the back!) when Whit had to retire with Hodgkinsons, thank goodness he made a full recovery or Lee would be clueless!!
Absolutely fascinating watching this Jim as I own an RD500 and just about to try turn her into a YZR replica! As a 51 yr old bloke I was giddy as when this video dropped so now I’m about to watch it 😁 Thanks for sharing this incredible build 👏👏😉 Cheers Jase
Great video takes me back to when we lived next to a speedway racer the smells & sounds glorious tunes that played out from them we never once complained actually we got really friendly and helped out not trying to bother them just keen on learning new things. What a treasure bot J and the bike are.
We get the same comments that on the club stand at shows. Punters don't understand the time and grief you get building specials. Brilliant videos chaps.
Work of art that bike , love it and it defo sounded real sweet when you started it , very smooth and no hesitations through out the revving, cant wait to see the finished article !!
What a machine! Always been a dream bike of mine, a what a top bloke JW is. I do have an old photo of me and him when he was racing, cant remember if he was racing the 250s? He was showing me something on the bike, It was early 90s. He is a family friend and took me with him into the paddocks on race day, i was about 8/9 at the time and even JW looked young!!
Loved this vid. Amazing bike, the work and passion you both have put inro it is brilliant! What makes it every better to watch is the self deprecating banter between you both. Thanks guy's!!
That's just bloody awesome glad to see you boys both buzzing with excitement before it started 😂 years ago I rebuilt an RD200 and spent two days kicking it over before I realised that the plug leads were on wrong, they were supposed to be crossed 😂 then rode it down our street with no seat or lights they were the days 😂 thanks for doing this project just love two strokes 💪💪💪

This has been well worth the wait, to see and hear the bike start up, and the look on both of your faces was a joy also.

As an old air cooled TR3 racer… I’m tearing up and imaging the glorious scent emitted by your period beast! Thankyou, great vid!!

Well sorted. If you think that's complicated, take a look at the Yamaha 125 and 250 4's that Ivy and Read raced 30 years earlier than the YZR500.
