- Gweedore (official name: Gaoth Dobhair) is an Irish-speaking district located on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal, Ireland. Gweedore is also the home of the northwest regional studios of the Irish language radio service Raidió na Gaeltachta. Gweedore is officially the largest Irish-speaking parish in Ireland with a population of around 4,065.

The word "gaoth" has a few meanings. One of those meanings is indeed wind, but in the case of Gaoth Dobhair the word gaoth means inlet or estuary. Dobhair means water.
It makes sense to me, You are trying to say "Gweedore in my heart forever?"

Gosh it is stunningly beautiful. But how the heck can one earn a shilling. Ruggedness might bring a few tourists in summer but there are 12 months in the year

gaoth is pronounced gway and means wind.
But gaoith, pronounced gwee, means WINDY or OF THE WIND, does it not?
so why is this place not called GWAY DORE instead of GWEE DORE?
perhaps of ALL irish lingo placenames were spelt phonetically in english, we could revive our lingo at an even quicker pace.

Takes knowledge, too. In the name Gaoth Dobhair, "gaoth" means "estuary", not "wind"; so, "Estuary of the torrent". Genitive when "gaoth" means "wind" is "gaoithe", but "gaoith" when it means "estuary". Whatever the meaning is, no way it's pronounced "gway". In Connemara it's pronounced "gwee" and in Ulster, even, half way between "gwee" and "gee", so "Gweedore" is an almost perfect english translitteration.
