We are born with primitive reflexes. One being the thrust reflex. It helps protect infants from chocking. When starring solids, if a baby still has this reflex and pushes the food out of her mouth with the tongue, you stop and try again in a few days or a week. We are born knowing how to suck, chewing takes more than a reflex and it's something that is learned to a degree. "Tricking" so to speak (association is meaningless at this age) can be dangerous (choking) and does not teach a baby how to properly chew. I don't have a PHD but I do have my ECE. However you still don't even have to have that to know. People that become defensive straight out the gate, always make me wonder, what's really going on.

Don't leave the spoon in her mouth, she can't chew the food with a spoon stuck in it. Put the foot in, then take the spoon out !
