Thanks for posting this. I just finished reading Luther, the Life and Longing of Luther Vandross and the author refers to this moment at Luther's funeral as especially beautiful. It was.
Thanks for posting. I didn't know Cissy sang at the Funeral. We see and here not everthing here in The Netherlands. I had tears. Luther I truly missing you!
this is at luther vandross' funeral (at 5:15 "one of these days, luther, i'll meet you there...") - a sad day, but cissy came with her amazing voice to send him on his way. there is no other voice like her!
Well it shouldn't be sad, Cissy is from another era and drugs have never tempted Cissy. Anyway Whitney many times said her mom could outsing her and now that is evident.
thr33wisemonks no this is n New York City, Cissy had Whitney's at her home church where Whitney had been raised at, and did her first solo, That the New Hope Baptist church in Newark New Jersey, that church only holds 1500, this one is much bigger
No this was in Manhattan, Nippys funeral was n New Jersey at the New Hope Baptist Church where Cissy has been a member n the Music Pastor for over 50yrs
Couple of octaves? No, Whitney hasn't lot a COUPLE of octaves. But she hasn't sung any C6 since early 1990's. Even though her voice has gone more heavy and raspy at some parts, she still can sing. But no, Whitney hasn't lost a couple of octaves.
I feel the presence of God when this woman starts singing.
so SO beautiful - dearest cissy, thank you LUTHER would have been thrilled - two amazing talents, once-in-a-lifetime voices ! ! ! ! !
Cissy was over 70 years here. She still sounds amazing!
This family was blessed with special talents. God bless them.
no body like the queen of gospel cissy houston

great book.......................
Agreed, I just gave it a good Amazon review. Luther lived an amazing, yet painful life. I thought the author gave him a fitting tribute.
This was very beautiful and sincere. That choir was amazing.

When I go Home to Glory I want this sang at my wake, just like this too
David I love you.
***** Love you too darling
Sang Mommy, Sang!
That was sweet.
No wonder why Whitney got the voice she had.
FAB FAB FAB EVEN FOR HER SEASONED AGE!!!!
Not the same church, and this is Luther Vandross' funeral.
I recognize some of the choir members from Whitney's service .. they must be from New Hope Baptist (NJ)

Even though it’s 2005, the video looks like it was made in the 90’s.
RIP
❤️❤️❤️🙏🏽💐🎶
I like her outfit. Age appropriate but still with a little flare ....
Whats Cissy's voice type?Is she a first soprano?
@mapeps25 well maybe you should watch many countless interviews of Whitney talking about her mom then you will understand where I'm comming from pal.
Yes yor right but I'd do some homework before thinking Whitney is better than her mom. Even Whitney herself would set you str8 on that record.
Imagine it's Cissy was 30 what she would do to this song now that she's singing it in her seventies
@kmaur21 Hmmm, really? Can you prove that? =)
Is this the same church that whitney's funeral was at. Is that John Houston's funeral?
