      Oh right, I forgot martial arts was borne out of a need to meditate for several hours, mindlessly handing down obsolete techniques out of respect for "tradition", and knocking people out without touching them, you know, just through your "chi".

Funny he mentioned nick Diaz because I have so much respect for that guy. He and his brother came through a crappy childhood to reach success. There is nothing special about them except I feel proud to have them as fellow humans.

But I just want to give all of you a nice quote by the late mathematician Paul Erdos, who said “A problem worthy of attack, proves its worth by fighting back!”. Interesting points about "the most uncontested form of victory, the most complete form of surrender"....he rules out pins, cast shade and big throws (concrete maybe he says), but ironically is speaking only in a grappling context. Knock out does not require a tap, more complete uncontested form of victory Mr. Danaher, they don't even wake up for a while from knock out.
    If you claim BJJ could recover from a Judo throw, and eventually tap out the Judoka even after getting thrown, then one must be open to receiving strikes as well.

    Brilliant argument for the proliferation of the martial arts, but you should acknowledge there are serious injuries & many people can survive as pacifists. It is the MLK’s & Gandhi’s who have been assassinated, not the John Doe pacifists. That said, it’s possible the could be attacked - I’ve faced 3 guns & 2 knives, in addition to sucker punches - it is a violent world.

    He good in his narrow field, but probably knows little about DNA complexity and the stats: there is obviously a Creator when you do...Darwin thought a single cell was very simplistic, not more complex and profoundly elegant than any major city on the planet. As well, life is not "survival of the fittest" so much as "survival of those who cooperate the best." As a jiu jitsu coach, he more than most, should understand this and question dogmatic assumptions about a theory that dominates science today, especially given how often science changes its mind. John, there are not limited resources, only limited minds. Most of the world is empty space--just get out of NYC and drive West or go East into the Atlantic.

    • @jdm3656
      @jdm3656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ultimately, resources are limited.

    • @tyndaleisrael6058
      @tyndaleisrael6058 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdm3656 I could give you many reasons why that statement is false. Most likely it is a narrative being used for political ends by people who seek power and control over others. There is a video online of a man given a grant to see if he could start an oasis in the most arid inhospitable place on the planet near the Dead Sea, where they get around 2 inches of rain per year. He showed by using swails and berms he could collect the water and using certain types of trees and shrubs, he eventually, using the mulch from the leaves, did indeed create an oasis w figs and fruit bearing trees, etc. That means any desert could be made into a place to live and grow food. The didn't renew the grant and the oasis is still there, unused.
      Just look into Wilhelm Riech--it was reported repeatedly he could cause it to rain anywhere. Or Tesla's theories--the energy is infinite. All of these technologies are tightly controlled. Tesla never intended to have power lines everywhere! That's archaic. He intended to feed the energy wirelessly...which JPMrgan, etc would never allow because thy wanted to meter every volt.

    Fairly problematic and reductive philosophy from John, but easy to see how it dovetails neatly with jiu jitsu.

    • @dtmfool789
      @dtmfool789 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you elaborate?

    • @kneeblock
      @kneeblock 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Daniel Saucedo just his explanation of Darwinism is a bit flawed and his notion of the world as sort of survivalist is kind of grim. BJJ isn't a matching of natural attributes as much as a technology. It belongs to civilization much more than the wild.

    • @kelly980
      @kelly980 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, Darwin talked as much about cooperation as competition.
      Also, the narrow misunderstood view of Darwin's work is a bad way to coach in a lot of ways. Taken to its extreme it means having a very difficult, rigid regime which people either survive in or fail. Like a filtering system. It was used in China and the old Soviet Union with various sports where they would bring in thousands of kids and train them really hard so only a few could survive it. Those that did survive were awesome but most didn't and lots of injuries as the training was too much for most students.
      A different way to train is tailor the training to the students to get the most out of them individually. Although that is difficult with more students.

    • @oreocarlton3343
      @oreocarlton3343 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree, darwinian method of coaching or life is total bs and it doesnt even get results. Just mindless reductionist mindgames
