    Ah, a friend and I tried this game like a year (maybe two?) ago. Boy did we have a blast, but I could never wrap my head around reicarnating. We were about cap (or capped and leveling some masteries-style system, destinies or something?) and he was insistent on reincarnating but hell, I felt like I still had SO MUCH content undone, why would I want to go back to fighting the kobolds in the sewers?! It took us so long to get to this level, it sounds insane to do it again, haha! Not to mention, I finally got my character to feel really well put together (first character always starts as a mess, eh?) how could I leave all that behind?
    I'm sure we'll be back a few days from now because we've both been saying we want to, but the anxiety of tackling this topic again is serious...

    Axel I 100% agree with every word... I miss the glory days of 2011 DDO lots of raid lots of lfms And certainly like you said the teamwork aspect is the ultimate most fun of the game, now the game could be renamed "Follow the zerging warlock"

      Well, I just don't like grinding near as much in general. I don't know if I'd blame it all on Warlocks. But yeah definitely miss all the raid LFMs.

    I wonder what you’d say based on the more recent changes 2021-22…and what you’d advise new players in particular. I brought 3 toons up to cap and have decided to keep one 3rd-lifer at cap who is qualified for everything as my “raid toon”. This lets me use my runes across my account for named raid loot. I did not appreciate how vital reincarnations are for better and stronger builds not just for feats but for build points and destiny points! It’s hard as a newbie understanding this until you do it. Also, reincarnation is just complex enough if no one helps you figure it out it can make it a challenge to try the first time. Thanks for other take on this essential subject 🤍

      A lot is riding on if they do a power jump with isle of dread gear and the level cap increase coming this year. As of now the endgame is great. Tons of endgame raids to play and great gear to go after. So much gear was given level 30 versions with the old shard seal scroll update. If they do a power jump that will slide things much more into reincarnation's favor.

    I like to do both. I know it's hard to maintain more than one character for people with less time on their hands. But personally I have 13 of em myself. Not saying that it can be done by everyone, but having at least two would help, one for cap and one for reincarnating. I only reincarnate one at a time leaving the others spread out across the levels. this has the bonus effect of allowing you to try multiple classes. For me I have a main and off main that have multiple lives, the rest are just "test" characters or "farmers" for unbound items. As stated this style isn't for everyone, but I find it easier to find something to do with others by casting a wider net. Rather than having a single character that has to choose between reincarnation or cap stalling.

    Just found your channel, liked, subscribed and activated the bell.
    I prefer staying at cap, but just can't pass up reincarnating. I reincarnate every once in a while then stay at cap until I forget how much I hate it. LOL

      Much appreciated! Yeah every time I reincarnate part of me is like wait...why'd I do that for?

    I've got quite a few alts so generally can play whatever I'm in the mood for at the time, so I've got some that are levelling and some that are at cap at any particular time - the capped ones will be used for raids or loot runs and depending on the character I might keep it at cap for only a little while or just not shift it from there since i'm happy with it as-is. Currently I'm focussing on TRs for a couple of characters & working towards getting my 1st completionist :)

    It took me 2 weeks to hit level 30 with the "plan" to reincarnate, but all I can think of now is enjoying my time through all the missing quests and picking up cool loot. Maybe I'll reincarnate later.

    Just wondering as someone new to the game and playing through my first life, I was thinking of staying at cap for awhile if nothing else than to get all the gear and experience of play time, rather than reincarnating asap.That and most people i see are in the 20+ lvl range and trying to catch up to someone with lots of past lives isn't possible, so why not just stay at cap and play?

    • @samsketch2538
      @samsketch2538 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's definitely beneficial to stay at cap for awhile and get a good feel for the game. At cap you can play every quest and opposed to being too low a lvl for content. Also you're giving yourself a chance to get the LOOT! Depending on your prefered playstyle as a caster or melee or specialist etc, you can find the gear that best suits your character. However as he mentioned, reincarnating Does make your character, no matter the build, stronger. 3 past lives makes you a Legend, with more points to spend in creation. 36 pnts! instead of 28 I think it is.. Something to consider ^^

      I try to view the game through a new player's eyes, especially one who is free-to-play (F2P), starting from scratch. It is up to those players to decide what is more fun for them, but overall, a mix of staying at cap and True Reincarnation is best.
      There are several things that can be gained in this game, including past lives, gear, currency and favor. Favor is a big deal since it gives the F2P accounts the ability to buy adventure packs. Run as many quests as possible on elite for maximum favor, get some good gear (from quests or the Auction House) to have something to look forward to in your next life. Both these things are easier on a higher level character. After that, TR and play through the game again. You gain experience on that character, but also as a player, trying out that new class or possibly the same class but more powerful because of the gear you've earned and remembering kobolds always hate you.

      Craig Warlocks are very forgiving in terms of gameplay. It's a great class for farming, I use one as a saga farmer and it's very much the easy button. I've seen sales for 75% off.

    • @AxelAlexK
      @AxelAlexK  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Frito For now, I would stay at cap and enjoy the Ravenloft content while it's new. If you want to do some epic reincarnations along with that, go for it. Also it really depends on your build, heroic past lives are really important for builds like DC casters but not so much for most melee builds.

    I hate both, as it separates the community to unspeakable levels. I've made several friends, with whom I cannot play , because we are always TRing , different levels most of the time, or they decide they are staying at cap, while i still need to get more past lives. Not to mention TRing feels like a chore, rather than joyful. I haven't been able to play my main class - the bard, for at least a month and a half, because I'm kind of 'forced' to get certain heroic past lives if I want to compete with newer content. Not to mention when I join a MMO, i always pick a race, because I like its looks, its feel etc. In DDO I love playing gnomes, my favorite race, I connect with it.. would feel terrible to play other races, just to get racial PLs ( which in a way are a must ) , or that my character is not gimped with a terrible race/class combo.
    I would never bother with TR and never complain about it, if the developers didn't create new quests for players with 150 past lives. Without past lives, new quests would feel impossible for a newer player, with the amount of mobs, the HP they have and the damage they do. - For example, Giant Hold on Elite or R1, can be doable for a new player without the gear and past lives, but Archon's Trial chain, which is the same lvl range as GH, feels almost x8 times harder than GH, with all the mobs coming at you, the damage they do and the end bosses ( especially the angels ). To Curse the Sky is another example of a quest, created to cater to veterans who cried how 'easy' the game is, but when a new player steps into it, it feels in a way impossible to do.
    The more TR they add, the less 'end game' we will see and create such a difference between veterans and new players, which would feel impossible to ever catch up with them.
    I know people who already have 60+ reaper points and 80+ past lives, because they got these bonuses long ago, so now they just easy mode farm R3 quests with their OP warlocks and getting a new racial life every 4 days, while I'm still barely pushing my 4rth life, which usually takes me around ~2 weeks depending on play time ( sometimes even more , because it's hard finding people for LFM ), so in essence, I can never catch up with them, because by the time I'm done with 1 life, they are done with 3+.. A certain friend of mine, used his OP warlock ( OP, because the class is too strong in Heroic content and he also has every heroic/iconic/epic past life so far ) to farm the racial past lives, basically doing almost every quest for around 5-10 minutes and he got them ALL racials done in a matter of several months, and in these months, I barely got my 3 heroic past lives..
    The difference , the gap between old/new players is so huge, that it feel impossible to ever catch up. By the time I'm done with my PLs, the game will probably shut down, or in the best case, add yet ANOTHER past life grind, which the veterans will do in a month, while I'm still slothing behind with the previous grinds.

    Axel, I know you're a player who likes to stay at endgame and run things at cap, and I know that there's a very good proportion of the established players who are (more or less) done with their past lives and like to do the same. But I do have to say, for me, I never want to see a "compelling" endgame. Let me define that as "an endgame that is important enough that it can/should be focused on almost to the exclusion of the things you do before endgame, and you are basically left out of the Real Game if you aren't there." To me, that's the formula of literally every single MMO other than DDO. I have played a good number of them over the years and they all basically follow the WOW template of "only endgame/cap matters." Everything else is just a rush to get there. I feel this pressure in the community to "create this" for DDO as well, and I think that would be a terrible loss to the uniqueness of the game. I loved running Shroud, back in the level cap 20 days... but I ran Shroud to create gear for going back and reincarnating, not to be amazing sitting at level cap. It was something I did a few times each life, either for myself or to help out friends who were playing with me and trying to craft pieces. But I never wanted a game where the whole point would be to stay at 20, and run Shroud, and have them release Shroud II, Shroud III, Shroud IV with ever better gear for cap. I would resub my 12+ year dead WOW scrip to have a game experience like this.

    I totally disagree, because I am a solo player. I have my own guild, and max craft level, so gear is not an issue. Reincarnation is great for solo players, because it allows us to not be penalized for not wanting to be in a guild.

    Ok so I get it. Want to level? You're alone. Want to raid but not in a guild? Can't do it. So I was a beat tester and played this early on and came back once in awhile. I recently reinstalled and played a little. But knowing that the game has become less inclusive and open to outside players who want to play casually or join up for raids like the good ol' days. I'll just uninstall it and stick with SW. At least that game has a player base that encourages individuals joining up.

      It's definitely not like it used to be but you can still find people. Just takes more effort now, and yes you need to join a guild or make a static group probably to get consistent groups.
