- OMORI is disappointing in some aspects. The story is top notch besides some hiccups here and there, no ones arguing how profound the ending is, but the area where it really dips.. is in the moment to moment gameplay. The combats emotion system is cool but lacks the difficulty needed to really take advantage of having to use the different status effects in battles.
Which Is why I downloaded a mod that not only lets you change the health and damage of enemies.. but adds entirely new mechanics to the game. Provided this is installed you'll cherish every item and equipable that you come across no matter what you're fighting be it a sprout or even just a bunny.
And on top of showing you this mod, I have 3 others that I'm going to cover in this video.. as well. Including the heavily anticipated role reversal fan project.. OMARI, which switches Sunny and Mari's places in the plot.

I imagine that it's not going to be a full reversal like that, the conflict will still stem from sunny throwing his violin down the stairs the difference being that in that version Mari wouldn't fall down the stairs and instead push sunny back causing him to fall.

I think the story of Omari is something almost every Omori fan has imagined. I’m surprised it doesn’t have a full mod yet.

I'm not saying that Omari au is bad by any means, but I already saw so much "protagonist switch" type of stuff in other games that it's starting to be annoying, that's why I like reverie more, feels like a whole new concept

Well tbh i think the main idea of omori isnt about the pvp which is why they probably didnt think too much abt it. I feel like the developers just wanted to make a story that touches on sensitive topics so that players can sense the emotions from plot and characters
Edit: in addition, the sense of feeling the trama portrayed by sunny helps in a way for us people to understand what its like to go through that pain. It also helps us connect more to those who do experience mental illness and can give us a way for us to help them. As for personal mental illnesses, its can guide us on how to cope with different situations, Ex, calming down, focusing, cherishing, etc.
That was the impression I got as well: the gameplay is only really there to serve as a vehicle for the story, not to challenge the player in any meaningful capacity. That said, while I have no interest in doing so for myself, I can see why others might want to make it more difficult.
Also, just as an aside, PvP means "Player versus Player" - i.e. real human players competing against each other. In a standalone like OMORI, the only form of combat is PvE, or "Player versus Enemy/Environment".
well, they gave you a way to literally nuke enemies with a certain strategy, so its not like they didnt put thought into the battle system. i feel like they wanted a balancd of a good battle system with a good story

@@NoxietyPrime oh yes, I didnt really know how to describe it, so yeah I meant PvE. Also I think Omori is known for its great portrayal in psychological trama and illnesses, rather than its combat. If omori was like some other psychological horrors, where they focus more on fighting, I definitely think the outcome of the gameplay would be completely different and would, in my opinion, make the game less emotional (obviously) which would conect less with the players and make it feel empty.

@@Maxler5795 It's a really cool pokémon fangame i was trying to make since April of this year, and actually started making it about a week ago, the game will be called "Pokémon - The mystery of 1997", and it will follow an adventure that combines the style of a normal Pokémon game and something you would see in "Detective Conan" for example. The progress of my project is going really fast and smoothly, and if everything goes right a demo of it should be available around November-December of this year.

Omori (and it's community) still has my head spinning and my eyes stinging with tears and it's been a year since my first time completing it.
alright, so i didn't actually know about the Kel mod. i looked at the Twitter page, and according to a tweet on July 20th, the party would (possibly) consist of Mari, Sunny, Basil, and Hikito, although as the tweet states, it's subject to change. i find it slightly odd that Kel may have his own Omori, who i assume is Hikito, but regardless, it still seems like an interesting mod, hopefully it actually makes it somewhere.
i commented this on the Omori Reverie video, and i'll comment it again here, it's seriously amazing what these people are doing.

But if that were the case, and we're following the initial storyline of Omori, everybody was there to see Sunny drown (based of the memory in Lost Library). It would be interesting to see how that would work if it were to happen.
that would eliminate the element of keeping the truth of the death a secret. the group would already know, and there isn't nearly as much responsibility on mari's shoulders.

The worst part about the OMARI timeline is, is that the point of divergence is very likely still the staircase, Sunny still tries to push Mari, but Mari's older, stronger. She fell because she didn't fight back, and if she did, she likely *_THREW_* Sunny off her in a panic, in a much more violent way than Sunny's push. That's a lot harder to forgive yourself for than just an annoyed push causing a death.

But Mari wasn't facing the opposite direction of the staircase? If she fighted back, she would have threw Sunny in a safe spot.
It doesn't make sense to "accidentaly" throw someone in front of you to your back because of panic. The effort that she would have to make to do so must be proposital.
@@FinalFullMetalGamer If someone pushes you down anything, you're likely to tilt backwards. Grabbing someone smaller, lighter, and pulling yourself in their direction to save yourself results in them usually being pulled in the same direction, almost being flung. Not that Mari would be *much* heavier, but...

Well I understand what you're getting at, Omori isn't really focused on the fighting. It's a story driven game that deals with very serious topics and has a depressing but beautiful ending. Those mods sound annoying. To me one of the things that makes Omori so great is that you DON'T have to grind for 20 minutes to be able to fight the next boss.

I think one of the cool things about the game is that the super boss content is primarily relegated to Omori's route. It allows Sunny's route to be more story oriented without the need for grinding or excessive strategy, which really enhances the emotional parts of the game. Omori's route has extra content that pushes you to get comfortable with he games mechanics though, and was honestly pretty fun for me, so I can see why a difficulty modifier could have appeal.

An OMARI AU mod sounds amazing. Prolly my favourite premise of Omori AUs.
I think having Sunny die in OMARI is a lot more believable and spooky than the occasional coma premise.
You are Mari. You are a sweet young adult that explores her inner toughts to sort herself out. You go into the real world to help your friends and act as their consolation and resolve
On the way you learn of your dead brother. At first it sounds like just an explanation on your kindness but then things start to take a sour turn.
Things at the imaginary world didn't go well enough. Mari's resolve falls off your hands and becomes riddled with bad choices. Mari falls into a toxic positivity that tries to deny the entire Blackspace, trying to apease SOULMATE (Stranger) and failing to save him over and over
Everyone found happiness and closure. You spend the night at your favourite person's home. You are SURE you will sort this once and per all, winning the inner battle and being strong, move on! Forget about it!
But it was not as easy. You could not do it alone and you knew it. You ran toward the love of your life and got struck with a choice; To embrace him or to forget about him as to stay positive forever
Despair takes over. It turns into an argument as you press him into further delusion. You both get in a massive fight and a spatula "gets in the way"
Time to face the truth. You encounter your old memories, your sins and the fact you are not perfect. You want it all to be impecable and exact, you want them to just move on like old times pretending that your pain is just you being annoying to their good ending, but that's a lie. Eh, I never really quibbled too much about the challenge in OMORI. I mean, it *IS* a game made in RPGMaker and it's meant to have actual gameplay, but... I feel that the gameplay is more there to help tell the story, otherwise it would have been a visual novel and that would have been ok! It was never meant to be overly challenging, this isn't Dark Souls that we're playing or anything, and IMO, the last thing we really need is yet another Grindy AF JRPG that you can't get past the first boss without spending 30 hours of grinding. That doesn't make engaging gameplay whatsoever, I mean, look at old JRPGs that get lots of complaints, such as 7th Saga or Lufia 1 that are "too grindy" and "too difficult" (I don't think either of those games are, but I managed to find quirks and such that let you squeeze by with minimal grinding). I don't think that turning OMORI into one of those kinds of games is really going to change the fact that RPGMaker is quite limited in what you can do, and that the OMORI Team already gave us way more than most RPGMaker games ever did, but at the end of the day it's still RPGMaker, and OMOCAT wanted OMORI to be _accessible_ rather than this game that has a cult following that sneers at people who are having trouble like the Dark Souls community does. If you think about it, OMOCAT deliberately put a difficulty slider in the game already in the form of Orange Oasis, to make the game _easier_ and if you watch lots of TH-camrs playing OMORI like I did, you'll see that the vast majority of them run from random battles and have severe troubles killing King Crawler, Sweetheart, and some even have to retry Space Ex-Boyfriend multiple times because they are at bare minimum level with bad skill choices. I think you're overestimating the JRPG skills of your average player, TBH. Not everybody played all the FF games and the other plethora of SNES JRPGs back in the day; we're a dying breed of gamer. Today's gamers have been nursed on ARPGs and are all about dodging stuff that they never developed critical thinking skills that you'd use when you play a turn-based game.

For first mod, canonically it'd make sense to be able to adjust difficulty for headspace (tho you shouldn't be able to in "real life" sections lol) as Sunny, atleast at first, is in relative control of his dream state

So about a year ago i suggested to a Kel Mod maker to include a Compaq Portable III with orange text in Kel's Orange Space and I think this person actually did it. Wow.
Honestly, I’d love to see Kel and Aubrey swap places in the OMARI AU, given how much we see that Aubrey was wrecked by Mari’s loss and how Kel was so quick to recover, I could imagine a role reversal of Kel being mad at Mari and Aubrey for seemingly not caring about Sunny’s death would be really interesting.
Maybe the twist with the Mari mod could reveal that Sunny didn't die on the stairs and's he's simply in an extended coma.
Or even more horrifying, the stairs simply knocked him out, Mari and Hero proceed with th cover up and only find out when Sunny is wakes up in the tree and panics.
I will be honest, I am bit skeptical when it comes to the Omori mods. I have met some people at just straight up made a role-swap for the au and there was barely anything unique about it. And, I really hope that the bigger projects will be more creative with that, because there is a lot of potential.

honestly I feel that any mod that is directly adding or changing story wouldn't really fit, as Omocats vision is a specific one, and attempting to recreate that could be...downright almost impossible

I honestly think that in the main game, the best boss in terms of difficulty curve is Sweetheart. She is the only chRacter that will actively shift the party's emotions to put them at a disadvantage. Every other fight afterwards is a cakewalk because 1) they almost never do that again and 2) because you just end up with insanely good skills while bosses barely do anything other than damage.
I think ultimately, OMOCAT wanted the story to be the absolute biggest focus and intentionally tried to avoid making the game difficult. Hence why the harder fights are on the other route where the story is ultimately static.
I agree. Sweetheart was the hardest of the main bosses, and I had to use specific skills related to ‘Happy’ to actually win.
Pluto was also a banger fight. Easily my favourite. Pluto Expanded wasn’t as good, but still good.

The entire point of the push was that the murder was in Sunny’s hands. Him tripping and falling is causes less guilt, which is what omori is all about- guilt and grief

I’ve had this OMORI fan idea that has been rattling in my brain for a bit, and interested to share if anyone wants to listen.
Essentially, what would happen if Mari didn’t die. Like if Basil caught her and broke the fall? How differently would things play out?
One such way is that Sunny is sent to Juvenile Detention for attempted murder/manslaughter. How would the friend group get on?
Basil would still be close to sunny, trying to write to him as much as possible. This is without everyone else knowing, and if this were to be revealed, I imagine it would tear the group apart.
Mari would still be alive, albeit with a permanent limp. Initially, she would be devastated by Sunny’s actions, becoming angry and spiteful of her brother, often in front of the group whenever he’s brought up. But as time went on she would feel guilty for realizing that she pushed sunny too hard with rehearsals, but instead of telling the anyone, she still puts on the facade of Sunny being a surprise monster.
Kel would be the same, though would show some sympathy to Sunny when brought up.
Aubrey would be very different, given that the group never broke up, she would still be optimistic about life. However she would be against Sunny ever being part of the group again, choosing to purposefully forget Sunny.
Hero would be the one who changes for the worse (relatively). He now hate Sunny with a burning passion, though would still be his charming self. I imagine that this Hero would still continue his culinary endeavors since Mari was still around to be a co-cook, so to speak.
Sunny would have been charge with manslaughter, testified against by both Mari and Basil, and sent to JD as a result. We would see him at all, (not counting a hypothetical headspace), until the very end when he is released from Juvenile. He would write back to Basil with drawings and characters reminiscent of his headspace.
In this alternate turn of events, “something” would take a new form, haunting both Basil and Mari. Instead of being an amorphous blob it would be a tall, imposing pillar, meant to mimic how both Basil and Mari saw Sunny standing at the top of the stairs, looking down with the same face that he has in his furious portrait.
Unfortunately I can’t code for jack squat, and all of this is more or less hypothetical speculation. I’m also 100% sure I’m not the only one who has thought of this, so if you have your own ideas I would me more than happy to hear them. And if this inspires you to make a fan mode than your doing more than me and have my whole blessing to take this idea and run with it.

Kinda disagree on Mari being a sweet person. Sure, Sunny remembers her fondly in Headspace on the surface, but the whale section does reveal what she's really like: A very controlling and cold person who, while still is a older sister figure for Sunny, was not against emotionally manipulating him. Her death didn't happen for no reason, and in my experience fights where things get physical are built up over years of conflict and frustration.
This is also supported by Sweetheart's overall character. There's only two women that Sunny has in his life that really matter (his neglectful mom hardly being in his life at all) and one he still has a crush on despite not seeing for a very long time. This means that Mari is the base for these manifestations in his psyche and in a way are him trying to deal with the emotional abuse from Mari. Not to mention that Sweetheart picks out Hero.
We can also see this in ABBI's general personality and lore, being someone who was supposed to be very wise, but goes too far and is banished in the darkness. Mari pushed Sunny too far, and Sunny pushed back. When we next see her, Sunny on the bad ending route and is questioning his relationship with her entirely, ending with him wanting to dominate her as she did him.
I never saw this angle on things. That's interesting, I'm not sure why he'd manifest her as peaceful in headspace thou
I think that both are correct. The manipulation thing comes from Mari's perfectionism on wanting that Sunny could play the violin was good as possible for the music recital. Not wanting her little brother to give up on playing. But other than that, she was a sweet person.
I mean, she saved her little brother's life when he was drowning and cried right after of happiness. And Sunny only choose to play violin to spend more time with her. If she was that cold towards him, he wouldn't care enough to do that.
I am interested on a fan game where Mari never dies but her relationship with her brother and friends grow even colder... and it's kinda up to her to either worsen it or fix it
Before my sister reached the end of the Snny route she thought the baby that Kel's and Hero's parents had was actually Mari's and Hero's which is why she killed herself.

I don’t like the idea of OMARI being a role swap tbh. People cope differently. It would be interesting seeing something that shows how Mari copes differently, but it seems they still go the headspace route
different Headspace though. One of the Discord members proposed that instead of a lightbulb it would be a window that suppresses the memories, and that Headspace would have a day til night route where the night is where the Truth becomes more prevalent

Omari makes much mose sense than Omori. Basil as the accomplice is just "Man I'm boutta do an evil, perhaps some shenanigans" but changing it to a lover adds a touch of explanation to the obsession and fear of being left alone

My greatest curiosity about the OMARI AU...
Something looks like it does because it's a stylization of Mari's hair falling over her face with only one eye visible, so... what would Mari's Something look like? ...How do you stylize Sunny's death?

Sunny's forehead was said to be bleeding heavily after the fall due to one of the shards piercing through the skin. The something would probably have to do with Sunny's heavily bleeding forehead
Can I say that calling the AU Omari makes no sense? Just call it Hiki, the name Omori comes from the word Hikikomori which literally just means shut-in, calling it Omari not only genders the term but also only exists to be a pun.
The name will probably be changed in the final version. At least the title of it I’m guessing. I don’t think they’re actually gonna keep it Omari. It also helped to separate projects when there was a separate Hikki project

I’ve downloaded mods for omori, but idk if this problem ive got is just on my end or for everyone. Basically for some reason if i download them, then stop playing for an extended period of time (couple months?), they apparently… automatically uninstall? Almost like I didn’t even mod it to begin with

Idk why but even though OMARI is basically like OMORI but the roles are switched and still has the same story as OMORI I'm still excited for it to be a game.

@@junkyyard2273 It's fine I understand saying that OMARI is just a role swap sounds like it won't get as much attention because people will just see that it's just like OMORI. And won't care about it because they will just think the story will be the same.

about sunny and basil getting mari in the tree; i cant remember where i found this, but i remember seeing somewhere that in a blacker space room, you can see a sillohet in front of the tree. if you walk up to it, someone will say "stay away... you are not my son...". theres another spot with a small lake/puddle, and youll see dialogue saying "you see a man shutting his car door and drive away." Its implied that this is why Sunnys father is absent and that he helped Basil and Sunny cover up the accident so they wouldnt be charged.
I'm so glad I got Omori on PC instead of the Switch bc I can download all these cool mods (and it's also cheaper XD)

Eh, I completely disagree. It's a game that's supposed to use the combat system as a tool to carry the story forward. It's not supposed to be the MAIN FOCUS, but just a great complement to its phenomenal plot.
I tried many mods for this game and they are not really "fixes" at all, using that word is completely misusing it.

Omori is much less about the actual gameplay parts tbh. It simply serves as a way to make the subjects of the story far more immersive than if it stayed a comic or became a visual novel.
As a game, progression happens at *_YOUR_* pace, and there are many secrets stored in places only the truly determined would think to search to reward them for their efforts. THAT kind of story telling just *_CANNOT_* exist outside of a video game.
The gameplay is just there as a nice distraction from the horrors hidden out of sight. "Wow, that dialogue sounded _kinda fucked up-_ OOOOH a new skill!"

When playing a psychological rpg horror game, I feel like the last thing you'd want people to do is to grind out exp. The difficulty in the game should be increased, but not artificially by simply changing the stats, but by instead increasing the skills and decision making level required to beat each battle.
We all must agree that Kel is the best omori character. (agree with me)
