24 hrs dark in winter, 24 hrs sun in summer.
Although when it occurs in the summer all the fun and celebrations are incredible. Even the 26 mile marathon I loved. My daughter is driving down right now for a visit. Stay safe🙏

That first story covered just about every Alaskan stereotype. A good story nonetheless.
Shot like that does happen up here occasionally. The long nights do fuck people up especially if they have underlying mental health issues. A neighbor of mine did something similar years back
Man, i hate when the alaska stories are written by people not from alaska. I liked the first story, but I couldn’t get into it because people living that far north don’t have basements, and there are no sheriff departments in alaska. Especially farther north than fairbanks, it’s basically troopers or nothing ☹️
I've lived in Alaska for a few years now and Mountain Veiw is a really scary area. The first month I lived here there was a drive by shooting down the road. I have been all over this state and dozens of very remote villages. In my time in Alaska, I've been sexually assaulted but I got away before it got bad, someone attempted to pull me into a truck while I was out for a jog and that's just the tip of the iceberg. There is some seriously crazy stuff out here.... people are not messing around

In story one, the first thing I would have done before looking around the house was get strapped and make sure I had extra magazines.
Tell me about it. I myself tend to keep some weapons hidden around my house that only I know about. when the shit hits the fan. I always have options.

Story 2: First of all, almost ANY city, town, or neighborhood can be dangerous or unsafe now days, regardless of the population or makeup of the area. Second, what a shame that he decided to disparage an entire neighborhood just because of HIS bad experience of it. Also, Mountain View is the most racially and culturally diverse and economically mixed area in Anchorage. If that terrifies him, I suggest he take himself and his family and go someplace else.
