I couldn't be more excited to be an investor! Anybody who has been watching this channel for more than a couple of episodes knows how hard Stephen works. Mostly, I just invested because I need a pick and place ASAP so I can start putting hundreds of tiny little 0604 LEDs on the blinky boards I'm making for Burning Man! For those of you who are new to SAFE notes and how this kind of investment works... if the company goes on to raise MORE money, my note converts to stock, and if one day it goes public, I'll end up with a little share (quite a small one in the scheme of things). But if the company does NOT raise more money or if it fails (unlikely as that might be), this is not a loan in any way. I don't have any kind of board control, board seat, or even information rights, so basically it's a true "angel" investment with no downside for the founders other than giving up a little sliver of ownership.
When I saw where you were going. I immediately knew where you were. I use to live in that building or adjacent to it when I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. It's nice to see it get a new life, especially with something like this. I love all your videos and have been watching them since the beginning. Congrats on the office and funding. Very happy about the commitment to Open Source and you have inspired me as a software engineer to work more on my personal projects and see them through from the start. Thank you for sharing your progress.
When I first started watching, I saw a guy who is way too excited, laughs too much, and aims way too high to possibly ever succeed. But I watched anyway because um.. here's this guy designing motherboards out of the blue that already blow away any 3d printer mainboard ever built. I couldn't have been more wrong. It is BECAUSE of these things that this WILL succeed. Thank you for opening my mind to new possibilities. I can't wait to see this company skyrocket. Because it will.
I have so much fun watching you go through this process. The whole thing. I wish that I wouldn't have jacked around my entire "young life" and instead put in the work like you are. Instead, I waited until I was about 38 years old before I got my shit together. I'm so far behind it's not funny. But I'm doing what I can with what I have. If you're reading this and you're still young... Do it now. Whatever "it" is, do it now. Figure out what you want to do and go for it. Don't wait until it's too late.
I like the way you think about making processes repeatable. With that in mind, I know what you have you believe works for you but what you have to keep in mind is that returns and support of faulty hardware will just kill you. So my strong recommendation now that you have a little $, ditch that jankey reflow oven and invest in a small chain furnace. It takes care to tweak it but once you have things dialed in you will increase the reliability of your boards by an order of magnitude. Especially for BGA devices.
I couldn´t be happier for you and your business! Congrats and all the best! I started studying mechanical engineering this year and with your mid-scale production line and open source politics you are kind of a role model for me. Thanks for sharing the progress.
Absolutely thrilled and happy for you guys. I started following you when you had about 5k subscribers and seeing the evolution of your projects and channel is so satisfying. Happy for you!
I keep thinking of Dalibor Farny and his workspace story. That kind of excitement and that kind of organizing for a great project. Good luck. Keep it going.
Hopefully, if you are using that shelf with your 3D printers that you can brace it well enough to prevent the print heads from shaking it. They are notorious for causing enough sway to throw off prints. Probably you're just storing them there for now, but if you intend to use it for printing, I would highly recommend some massive stabilization bracing for it.
This is so unbelievably cool. Can't wait to see all you'll accomplish! Also, I love the Bondi Blue iMac in the moving photos. Brought me back to high school.
Fantastic to see your journey. I've been working on my own for a few years, and it's inspiring. As someone who has been looking for a pnp machine... I would love to know when and where can we order the kits? :-) Because I really want to support this project that way.
I am very happy for you, such good news that you finally got a space you can work in making your dreams come true and for people to soon get your awesome machines sent to them! Good job and keep making stuff and videos!
I am very much reminded of LinusTechTips - starting in a house, outgrowing it and moving to another house, then outgrowing that and moving to a commercial unit. Hopefully you'll be as successful as them.
The progress thus far has been amazing. I can't believe it's just been around a year too! As always i'm excited to see this develop, and am over the moon about your commitment to the Open Source movement. I guess next stop is a tour by Thomas Sanladerer like that one of the Prusa Factory lol !
Glad to see the project and the company gaining so much ground over the past year. Been following along since around the move to Pittsburg happened and it’s been such an inspiration to see your all of your efforts coming out with such fruition! Your channel and journey was part of my inspiration to go back to higher ed for a computer science degree, so thank you for all you and your team have done :)
I always worry when I see new founders take on debt and recurring costs because it's suuuuper easy to get overwhelmed and burnt out. Ask me how I know. 😸 That said, it sounds like you're aware of the risk and I'm happy to see people like Joel add power to the battery so that you can make bigger plays. It will be a wild ride!
So excited for you, and so happy you got the much deserved recognition and business cash injection. Congrats on the office too! Let us know prior to VC funding if you're able. There may be some interested parties in your youtube audience that share your vision.
This is the most critical period in any startup. Don't spend it all in one place. Don't expand until you are ready. And when you do look at getting more investment, watch out for da sharks. But it sounds like Joel will help you with that part. Good luck!
it might pay to have a q and a with the people that helped set up the space ie things to look out for when biting the bullet and setting up a space for working (lawyor ip company setup) for when your company gets big enough to leave the garage
You're enthusiasm (while chessey) is infectious and I wish you guys the best. Great idea, the intellect, funding and ambition. I hope you guys become millionaires at the very least.
Really great to see you building the foundation of a company... i'm very interessted how it all works out the next years.. keep on pushing💪✌ cheers from bavaria!
Congratulations Stephen! I also sent an open source project name suggestion by Patreon message, but don't know if you got it. I didn't post it publicly because didn't want a chance of someone registering the domain and social accounts before you could get to it. In any case it is awesome to see your progress and best wishes for the future!
Woah, I remember seeing one of your first vidoes. Joel has a good eye, as you couldn't pick a better person to invest in - passionate, determined and charismatic :). Best of luck to you all, exciting times!
Congrats! I'm still doing the garage-lab thing for my venture, but the weather is a bit more manageable here in the SFBA and office space is probably a lot more expensive. Also, its still just me, so I'd rather not get too carried away just yet. (Also, I do most of the EDA/firmware work inside the house, where climate isn't a problem.)
Congrats congrats congrats! I've been following your journey for a long time and what an adventure it is! So so soooo much proud of you guys.. You are motivating me to take risk and start working on my dream project.
It’s so awesome to see you both signing the first contract for a real company office! Your journey just started and will go beyond everything! You’re basically living my dream. I hope to get to the same point within the coming year 😅🤞 (I’m developing EV Chargers for the public) Can’t wait to see the next update vid 🤩👍
Have you thought about making a sort of "how to start a company" video as soon as everything is sorted? I mean it only can be for people in your country since I imagine things can get way different in other countries but I would still enjoy such a video. Thank you for this awesome series.
Wow! I've been watching you go throught his journey from pretty much the beginning, and I am SO happy and proud of you guys! Exelent work and you guys deserve it! Can't wait to continue to watch you guys grow and flourish! :D
This is so freakin sick 🤟, you should do a small video of the years of progress up until this point of failures and you getting pissed, fails after fails after fails,an then.........boom, you have a corporation😄, Love it,keep it up man.🤙

Joel, We need more people like You in the world ! Trust is something that is Hard to find these days! Greetings from Chile !!
Stephen is the kind of person you want running a company. He's super enthusiastic and puts every fiber of his soul into it.
While I'm not familiar with funding, this sounds really fair. Thanks for getting this off the ground :)
You sir are a legend amongst coders around the world. SO is how software is written and how degrees are achieved today.
Ditto on the PnP. Though not for Burning Man. I have 100,000 LEDs waiting for That Day.
Thank you for all the support and positive messages everyone! We’re very happy to share all this news with you
Congrats buddy!

Amazing space! Congrats dude.
YES!!!! I literally yelled "HELL YEAH" and scared the crap out of my dog. I'm so happy for you guys.

All I have to say, is well done guys.
I’m glad you found your Angel Backer, and a good place to start.
Your going to be the Prusa of the PNP machines.
Everyone of your bedroom and garage makers are so jealous and proud right now. Congratulations on the investment and move!
Pretty awesome to move into a new space and old tenant is letting go of tonnes of good, used furniture. Super score!
I like the way you think about making processes repeatable.

"We decided to name each of the rooms of a different opensource project"
THAT IS SO COOL!
I keep thinking of Dalibor Farny and his workspace story. That kind of excitement and that kind of organizing for a great project. Good luck. Keep it going.
Man, your happiness is contagious, it's really great to see hard working people going forward, my most sincere congratulations.
Dudes. So fucking proud of you guys and what youve accomplished so far. Excited for you to start shipping kits and your growth in the future.
Absolutely awesome. Time to upgrade video and audio quality!
Awesome, best of luck with these new possibilities!
I hope we can soon buy your machine 🙂

You excitement is contagious and inspiring. I really wish the best for you and your company.
If I wasn’t living in Denmark, I’d so badly want to come and work with you guys! Wish you the best luck on this amazing journey 🙏🏻
Woah dude, this is exciting! Congrats

That office is so hip. Congratulations guys!
Awesome news!!! All the best with the new space and all the great things you folks will create!!! Upwards and onwards!!!
ahhhh!!! what a cute office space!!! it's been so exciting watching you grow from your Makerspace to the garage and now a REAL OFFICE!!
I always worry when I see new founders take on debt and recurring costs because it's suuuuper easy to get overwhelmed and burnt out. Ask me how I know. 😸
That said, it sounds like you're aware of the risk and I'm happy to see people like Joel add power to the battery so that you can make bigger plays. It will be a wild ride!

Super cool to see your company and project progress. Hope you'll be able to share as much as possible similar to nyccnc - gl with the new place!
Congratulations! To your team and on your new office.
Huge congrats! Joel Spolsky? No effing way! Duuude!
This is insane! Watching you and the company grow since the start of the PNP project has been truly awesome!
Soooo happy for your all.
Congratulations! It's a big step to get out of the garage. I love my ridiculously big space - it is exactly what is needed!
Awesome guys! Wish you were closer to Philly. Maybe our companies could work together on a project or 2 sometime in the future.
Week one in the new office:
"That's soo much space!"
Year later still in same office:
"Well we need bigger office ASAP!"
This is the most critical period in any startup. Don't spend it all in one place. Don't expand until you are ready. And when you do look at getting more investment, watch out for da sharks. But it sounds like Joel will help you with that part. Good luck!
Watching a new company grow in my backyard is a neat experience.
I'm happy for you and your team... I following you on this PNP journey for very long time . Kudos and best wishes !!

Big thumbs up on the investment and the office move. Hard work repaid, well done.

Dude! That's awesome! I hope for the best for you, the project and the team! This is astonishing!
Congratulations on your new office. With how many people do you plan working in there? Greetings from The Netherlands
