I live in Tennessee and listening to this great singer I just can’t find the words to say how much I truly and deeply love Tennessee. I lived close to the area where much of the movie was filmed and seeing that area makes my heart swell with love and pride for my beloved Tennessee.
I agree, I remember growing up in the 70s when The Walking Tall and Billy Jack films captivated audiences and made people realize the true meaning of right and wrong and about justice.
I saw this the first time when I was ten years old in the theater. It was hard hitting ans raw then, as it is still now as I watch it on occasion on DVD. Been to his house in Adamsville, TN. Right off of Hwy 64. Worth the visit if in that area.
I loved this song to the movie when it was made in 1973. It makes me think that we could use the thoughts from this song in everyone's heart ❤️. Love you Johnny
Back in 1993, we went we traveled from Texas to McNairy county and visited the area; met the nicest people on that trip. We especially enjoyed the museum. Some of the people we talked to actually knew the family and told some very wonderful stories we enjoyed hearing about.
Bear in mind...the lyricist, don black, is an Englishman. How lucky we are to have had him writing for American music. Was manager and writer for Matt monro
A very beautiful song by Johnny Mathis, Walking Tall 1, 2 and 3 are genuine classic films that are a must own for any movie collection, I have the trilogy in my collection. This video is excellent quality, very clear, Great sound!
The version Mathis released, was different from the film version here. It was slower, and imo too overproduced. This is the better of his two versions,
Haunting film fell in love with it in 1974.was expecting totally different film and not expecting much but was totally changed by this film and it holds to this day.
First time hearing this song, although I’ve seen the movie more than once just never listen to the words in the song watching the movie this morning with everything that’s going on touch me I ask you to listen with your heart.
The world's begun to look her age I'll tell you why she lined and gray We read her fate on every page Then turn our backs and walk away Why can't we stand, join hand to hand It's time to care, we dare not wait And watch too long become too late There's so much hatred all around Let's end it now or it will roam There's lots of heroes in the ground But not enough are in the home Let's start again. Don't say amen Open your eyes and lift your head Just help to right the wrongs we've bred Let us pray loudly Let us live proudly And soon we'll all Be walking tall
Six years after this movie came out, the Gov. of TN. was sent to prison for committing bribery at TN prisons. TN. was a very lawless state in the 1970's.
I actually met sheriff pusser at his brothers bar here I L When I was 7 years old and now its come full circle as I now an actual Sheriff's dept that was worn when was sheriff to me it was one of the Holy grails of my first responder collection Even at that young age he told me to always walk tall And I try to every day of my life To meeting him at such an young age he looked and sounded honest I don't why they have to bring up stuff that 50+ years ago it just makes no sense to me I've all the walking tall1-final chapter I've even American hero And the tv show on my tablet
I’m just here to say, this criminal group (Dixie Mafia) linked back to Creek Co. Oklahoma , after seeing Walking Tall at age 9, Later as a sworn Officer I knew who I was looking for ! We had a spin-off group in our county called “The Little Dixie Mafia” I stopped a car one night with one of the main players girlfriends in it that netted $6,600 in a shoe box. Our Detectives later followed and got them stopped after a 10 run pickup one night with $66,000 in cash ! Then the asset seizures started and 7 went to Federal Prison.
I agree with his late daughter he was murdered because all the moon shining scales that he destroyed there's two questions that has not been question number one why didn't they perform an autopsy on them question number two why didn't they look at the car for signs of sabotage because I think it was sabotage
I got to know the Pusser family after meeting Helen, Buford s mom, hopefully I can answer this for you: First, the night he was killed, the county M.E., Harry Peeler, MD, declared Buford dead at the scene, so he stated later" I didn't think we needed an autopsy, because it was Very apparent to me that Buford died from a broken neck"; As a former criminal investigator, I believe he Should have performed the autopsy, he could've found maybe poison in his system, or something could've caused him to black out, before the crash occurred. Helen petitioned the Court of McNairy county to have his body exhumed ( in 1976) but they Denied her request, based on Peeler's statement. The Corvette DId have a broken tie rod, but the THP said " tie rod snapped when the car hit the embankment". But, One Deputy Sheriff told the family that the tie rod had been tampered with, but the THP stated they" found nothing to indicate foul play". But like the Pusser family, I believed Buford was murdered, but it wasn't over his being Sheriff, it was over what he Was about to do that year, He was going to be appointed TN Director of Public Safety, & He was going to reopen some old cases, & a few powerful people Didn't want that!

Johnny Mathis, who is the greatest singer this lifetime will ever know, does this song justice.
A truly deep song from a great musician 👍👍👍👍
I was 10 years old we went to the drive in to see this movie. A long time ago. I miss those times.
I think growing up the movies Walking Tall series & BILLY JACK set my moral compass of what right & wrong ....fair & equal ...justice & injustice.

This song has so much meaning to our divided situation today!
Probably one of the saddest movie endings ever, if not THE saddest movie endings
of the '70's

Good song!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES AND SONGS!
This is part of what the remake missed, this was more than a revenge yarn or action flick it told of Pusser’s tragic losses
Beautiful song. Everyone need to listen change the world amen

Almost seems like poetic justice
An incredibly sad song to close out arguably one of the saddest movies ever made
A voz desse homem, é muito linda 👏👏👏
The young boy brought his 22 rifle to the hospital to protect his Daddy 💔

God, this movie and song are so depressing
Casimus Prime a great movie
Glen Campbell should’ve sung this one.
Right, as you might be thinking about how he did the great theme to "True grit." Don Black wrote both.
Bo Svenson Was. The. BEST Buford. Joe Don Baker Was Good. Bo Swenson. Was Great
