For live action tho Personally think Cameron Monahagn was the best because he encapsulated all live action jokers in his portrayal through the evolution of his joker through the series of Gotham. He was clownish and funny but terrifyingly psychotic and insane and all the while having that brilliant mind to be 1 step ahead most of the time. He was absolutely brilliant in portraying that role!

Romero literally brought the old campy Joker to life but lakes the darker side that DC started to create within Joker. I have to to give to Nichelson as the BEST because he brought that darker persona to life first, which gave all the other personas something to build upon and make their own. Ledger is the BEST overall Joker in my view, he took it in ways that can stand today as the best and very complex, his dark past and overall message is very intriguing. Leto to me did not not a bad job he portrayed a different interpretation but it was not as bad as people keep saying. Phoenix's Joker portrayed the most relatable Joker to me, because of the intricate nature of mental illness and the stigmas behind it.

I think Jack Nicholson just edges out heath ledger. The reason I say that is because I feel like Nicholson played a joker that was murderous and smart while also being colorful and “funny.” So I think he had the best balance. Ledger’s joker was great, crazy dangerous and smart, but he didn’t bring the color and “fun” of Nicholson.
Nicholsons Joker wasted most of the time following Vicki Vale around. I always found it really weird that the Joker would fall for some pretty face. The first thing we see from Nicholson Joker is his origin story which takes away the mysterious factor from the Joker that even Romero had. We don’t know anything about him.

Heath ledger was a great actor and pulled off the chaotic and sadistic sides of the Joker well; but an important part of the Joker's whole character is that he is HAVING FUN doing it. At no time did I feel Ledger's Joker was having fun, although that may more due to the writing than his portrayal of the character. Nicholson looked like he was having fun, as did Romero. That being said, Hamill is the best Joker of all the mediums. Nobody understood the multi-faceted clown as well as he, nor has anyone combined ALL the aspects of the Joker's psyche as cohesively as Mark Hamill.
How about when he was driving the big rig? He literally was saying I love my job. Teasing one of his thugs for getting electrocute by Batman's mask. He was laughing his ass off while falling to his suppose death. Jack's version was screaming like a girl.

While they are all great jokers, Heath Ledgers is for me the benchmark to go off, he was so believable and while showing how mentally unstable he was showed how well he could get into the mind of people especially Batman, when it comes to batman the joker is generally the enemy we all love to see this battle, I remember coming out of the cinema blown away by Ledgers performance, he really did steal the show.

Batcave. This was a wonderful job on this video dealing with The Joker. I have to admit in my opinion that Heath Ledger's and Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of The Joker was very poor and didn't do justice to the character. As for Ceaser Romero's and Jack Nicholson's portrayals of The Joker really were entertaining and definitely shows justice to the character. I also have to admit That I see Jared Leto's version of The Joker was a combination of all the previous portrayals before him.
Modern comic book renditions of the Joker give him such a distorted physiognomy that he no longer looks human. He's become a grotesque caricature of himself.
I cannot choose between Nickelson and Ledger. They are both so great. And the movies are both in a different tone. Each Joker belongs in the movie they are in.
The Joker has changed alot over time, honestly all of them but Leto portray a different version of the joker. The 1969 and 89 did a good job portraying the early Joker. Joaquin Phoenix did a good rendition of some of the Jokers origin stories. Heath Ledger did a good job showing the darker side of the Joker, which we see in more recent adaptations.
My pick 1.Cesar Romero 2. Heath Ledger 3. Joaquin Phoenix 4. Jack Nicholson 5. Jared Leto Cesar was the king when it came to this role and no one can top him.
Cesar was my favorite Joker as he was very accurate. Joker was less violent then and they really had not gone down the dark path of his psychotic behavior and Cesar set the bar for things to come. Hamilton was great but that is only his voice so not counting him. Next best was Jack followed by Ledger. Phoenix and the one from Gotham are disqualfied as well since Phoenix played a character that inspired the Joker but was not actually the Joker and Gotham writers said their one was not the actual Joker though he was fantastic. Just my opinion though many will disagree.
Heath Ledger was definitely the closest to Mark Hamill's Joker. He was unpredictable, as well as an agent of chaos. That's who the Joker is and that was Heath Ledger. Cameron Monaghan from Gotham I'd say is a close second.

Heath Ledgers joker is my favorite because of the writing the joker in my opinion always wanted nothing more than to break Batman be his perfect opposite, he keeps lying about his scars which is what the joker always does! Lies about his backstory/life to fit what he wants from his target. The Arthur backstory was a fabrication to break Jim Gordon during the killing joke. He is a psychopath and psychological expert all in one. He turned his own doctor into his love slave after all

Heath Ledger's version was perfect. Only thing that wasn't was his look if you're going for comic book accuracy, otherwise I think even the look was perfect for Nolan's version of Batman
Ceasar Romero showed how the character was primarily motivated by wanting to have fun. Jack Nicholson best displayed his sense of humor and comic timing. Heath Ledger showed him to be a master manipulator and overall genius. I got nothing for Jared Leto. Joaquin Phoenix showed his vulnerability.
It depends on which aspect of the joker you're looking for. I think Jack Nicholson is the closest to the anime version but with some differences. Same name, both had affiliation with the mob, both had bleached skin and had the same attire complete with the psychotic persona. Ledger brought about a chaotic joker that wasn't about the money which is good but the animated version did want money so it really depends on what you're looking for but we can all agree Jared Leto did the worst take.
I disagree its not the comic accuracy or the animated accuracy that matters but who will be the best joker if the superhero world was real and that title can only go to either phoenix or heath ledger

Ledgers depiction is wrong. Hamill’s version in the arkham is spot on. If you’re talking about live action, then it’s Nicholson. Ledgers acting was awesome, but not the joker.
For me, the greatest male villain in all the comics is Joker, and the greatest female villain is Harley Quinn. No super powers, no vast sources of wealth, it's all about skewed takes on reality and expressions of socio- and psychopathic will. These are human villains, who are almost entirely driven by the need to induce chaos and doubt in the supposedly structured society around them. These are comic book villains you could write a master's thesis on, and I can't say that about any other comic book character, good, bad, or otherwise.
I was never a fan of the joker. It just seemed like a silly character to me. Until I saw Heath Ledger's version. It was brilliant. Heath Ledger's version made me a fan of the joker.
IMO, no one has really “nailed” the essential Joker, yet. Ledger was great, but the Joker’s white skin and green hair are not make up and dye, nor is that ghastly grin a result of scarring. There was no sinister evil in Romero. No actor has captured the Joker’s remarkable physicality - I could cite times he came close to “holding his own” against the Dark Knight hand to hand. In “Joker’s Last Laugh” by Neal Adams, Mr J had Batman dead to rights. In “The Dark Knight Returns” by Frank Miller, the Joker nearly kills an aging Batman with a knife. All these aspects are missing in any of the portrayals thus far. Bottom line, I’m still waiting for the real Mr J to show up in any movie. Of the existing portrayals, I’m most entertained by Nicholson.
I do not like Nicholsons Joker. It's not that he did a bad Job, it's just the script that ruins it. Burton got the look and feel of gotham like no other but he didn't get the characters correct. The Joker did not kill the Waynes. The relation between Batman and the Joker is that they are two sides of a single coin. They're both the product of one bad day.

Good video. I will say this about Heath. I only watch that movie once. I cannot do it again as that movie disturbed me to my very soul. I could not sleep after seeing it, and i am a huge Batman fan. So I can't truly judge that one. Also, he was wearing makeup - that was a major downside to that portrayal, as we all know that the Joker's skin is that color. Of these I will go with Jack Nicholson.

Batcave. This was a wonderful job on this video dealing with The Joker. I have to admit in my opinion that Heath Ledger's and Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of The Joker was very poor and didn't do justice to the character. As for Ceaser Romero's and Jack Nicholson's portrayals of The Joker really were entertaining and definitely shows justice to the character. I also have to admit That I see Jared Leto's version of The Joker was a combination of all the previous portrayals before him.
The closes thing we might have is Cesar, saldy actors like Willem cannot plat due to aging.
Modern comic book renditions of the Joker give him such a distorted physiognomy that he no longer looks human. He's become a grotesque caricature of himself.
That's why Heath Ledger is my favorite live action Joker. He is the most Accurate but in a more realistic tone.

I cannot choose between Nickelson and Ledger. They are both so great. And the movies are both in a different tone. Each Joker belongs in the movie they are in.
The Joker has changed alot over time, honestly all of them but Leto portray a different version of the joker. The 1969 and 89 did a good job portraying the early Joker. Joaquin Phoenix did a good rendition of some of the Jokers origin stories. Heath Ledger did a good job showing the darker side of the Joker, which we see in more recent adaptations.

Cesar was the king when it came to this role and no one can top him.
Cesar was my favorite Joker as he was very accurate. Joker was less violent then and they really had not gone down the dark path of his psychotic behavior and Cesar set the bar for things to come. Hamilton was great but that is only his voice so not counting him. Next best was Jack followed by Ledger. Phoenix and the one from Gotham are disqualfied as well since Phoenix played a character that inspired the Joker but was not actually the Joker and Gotham writers said their one was not the actual Joker though he was fantastic. Just my opinion though many will disagree.

Heath Ledger was definitely the closest to Mark Hamill's Joker. He was unpredictable, as well as an agent of chaos. That's who the Joker is and that was Heath Ledger. Cameron Monaghan from Gotham I'd say is a close second.

Heath Ledgers joker is my favorite because of the writing the joker in my opinion always wanted nothing more than to break Batman be his perfect opposite, he keeps lying about his scars which is what the joker always does! Lies about his backstory/life to fit what he wants from his target. The Arthur backstory was a fabrication to break Jim Gordon during the killing joke. He is a psychopath and psychological expert all in one. He turned his own doctor into his love slave after all

Heath Ledger's version was perfect. Only thing that wasn't was his look if you're going for comic book accuracy, otherwise I think even the look was perfect for Nolan's version of Batman

It depends on which aspect of the joker you're looking for. I think Jack Nicholson is the closest to the anime version but with some differences. Same name, both had affiliation with the mob, both had bleached skin and had the same attire complete with the psychotic persona. Ledger brought about a chaotic joker that wasn't about the money which is good but the animated version did want money so it really depends on what you're looking for but we can all agree Jared Leto did the worst take.
I disagree its not the comic accuracy or the animated accuracy that matters but who will be the best joker if the superhero world was real and that title can only go to either phoenix or heath ledger
@@joshuajohn74 it depends on what you're looking for. Ledger is probably the best depiction of a real life Joker but I go for comic book accuracy since that's where the character comes from so I still put Nicholson at the top

For me, the greatest male villain in all the comics is Joker, and the greatest female villain is Harley Quinn. No super powers, no vast sources of wealth, it's all about skewed takes on reality and expressions of socio- and psychopathic will. These are human villains, who are almost entirely driven by the need to induce chaos and doubt in the supposedly structured society around them. These are comic book villains you could write a master's thesis on, and I can't say that about any other comic book character, good, bad, or otherwise.
I was never a fan of the joker. It just seemed like a silly character to me.

IMO, no one has really “nailed” the essential Joker, yet. Ledger was great, but the Joker’s white skin and green hair are not make up and dye, nor is that ghastly grin a result of scarring. There was no sinister evil in Romero. No actor has captured the Joker’s remarkable physicality - I could cite times he came close to “holding his own” against the Dark Knight hand to hand. In “Joker’s Last Laugh” by Neal Adams, Mr J had Batman dead to rights. In “The Dark Knight Returns” by Frank Miller, the Joker nearly kills an aging Batman with a knife. All these aspects are missing in any of the portrayals thus far.
Bottom line, I’m still waiting for the real Mr J to show up in any movie. Of the existing portrayals, I’m most entertained by Nicholson.

I do not like Nicholsons Joker. It's not that he did a bad Job, it's just the script that ruins it. Burton got the look and feel of gotham like no other but he didn't get the characters correct. The Joker did not kill the Waynes. The relation between Batman and the Joker is that they are two sides of a single coin. They're both the product of one bad day.

Good video. I will say this about Heath. I only watch that movie once. I cannot do it again as that movie disturbed me to my very soul. I could not sleep after seeing it, and i am a huge Batman fan. So I can't truly judge that one. Also, he was wearing makeup - that was a major downside to that portrayal, as we all know that the Joker's skin is that color.

Romero and Nicholson were great at portraying The Joker but to me they kinda look fat in appearance and not scary looking. To me I think Ledger was great and totally nailed it with his performance as The Joker by the scary looks and a bit of skinny joker.
