As someone who uses rhyme schemes a lot in my amateur poetry, i'll say that being able to dig yourself out of corners is part of the skill you need to have when writing more traditional forms of poetry.
7:28 the issue here is while I like extended multisyllabic rhyme schemes, the real challenge for me is how you flow around it and if it becomes too predictable through the use of simple suffix words (-ing,-a/e table, -itation ending words). Drake fails every time for me in that regard since there’s no flow switch up to keep you engaged or any use of word-bending, phonetic rhyming to differentiate your schemes a little more like a Lupe, Black Thought etc. would do much more effectively to not become to predictable during the still playing song.
Not really, non-native english speakers could and did enjoy english music even without understanding a single world from it, besides I think what he meant with that is "as long you dont connect the lyrics to the person saying them"
@@linkrubronegro6390 I think it’s as simple as it sounds really good until you pay attention to what is being said. The song as a whole sounds great but some of the bars take away from it.
up there with "this video game is fun if you ignore the game-breaking bugs and awful storyline. Just turn your brain off." Always confuses me. there's plenty of great games without those things...so why play it?
It's like, he's almost ready to be vulnerable and honest like he should have been months ago, but that ego of his just won't die. He really DOES need some ayahuasca, strip that ego from the bottom so he can stop mixing pipe bomb threats with judge litigations.
No he's still far off. This is typical narcissistic gaslighting. Dude just wants to play the victim until the narrative changes. Dudes still a deadbeat, pedo, etc
Not an internal rhyme in sight. And _tion_ words don't count without internal, multi-syllable rhymes that go with them. Check out the song Aquemini for a real lyricist sticking to one rhyme scheme for an extended stretch. (I know Justin knows Aquemini, the suggestion is for those who don't know it.)
I’m half black and Japanese and my first language is Japanese. I’m a musician and a music nerd but I don’t comprehend lyrics well. I have to read along because it sounds like another instrument. The way you’re saying it sounds good until you hear what he’s saying is EXACTLY what bilingual/foreign music listeners experience all the time 🤣 there was a bunch of Japanese people including my 62yo mom who JUST found out what Shaggys “It wasn’t me” was about. They were like “omg what a bad guy🤣”
Man Drake and Kendrick are so different in almost every way. While Kendrick debuted about 10 new voices and flows during the battle and on GNX, Drake does the one tone flow throughout just like on the flop part 6. The differences between both are fascinating to me. I will never not find this battle and the folklore around it wildly entertaining.
@@kadeemsahpeak7403 Oh yeah, I've consumed every part of the story. Every last theory since day one, and of course all the sidequests as Justin likes to call them. From the Ebony Prince theories to the What's The Dirt Ethering by Justin and everything in between, lol. I almost want to say I can’t wait one day for a full doc on this, but as you mentioned FD and Justin along with countless others we got real time exposes on this thing. It was wild to watch a battle in this level play out last year real time and seeing reactions and commentary since. You just gotta wonder how much more happens at this point. Super Bowl gonna be interesting, this release and delete is as well. Whatever Kenny does after, what Drake does…does this UMC thing play out or get worse for Drake? Do we get one more Kenny response? Prolly not but I wonder…..is half of America gonna hear Not Like Us with a crazy half time spectacle??? Idk man idk this def has to become in the upper pantheon of all hip hop events in its history at the end of the day
@theogofguitar I'm there with you man. I can't think of any other event in Hip-Hop that has these many layers. There are so many characters and sidequests that it's impossible for most people to keep up with everything that has happened. It's turned into a whole universe of events and characters.
@ That’s it brother bc he has the natural ability of delivering shit so it sounds impressive but once you breakdown it’s really nothing On certain songs this style is dope but overdone it’s lazy lmao
The line about the pipe bomb and Xhibit is a reference to when Xhibit played Shine on "Empire" and he blew up the Lyon's car trying to kill Lucius... Now how that is a parallel to something that may have happened close to Drake in real life I have no clue
@ashantinyongo7632 Honestly, whilst the Kendrick vs Drake beef is fresh in people's minds and whilst Kendrick is having his moment in the mainstream he'll always be booed and heckled. He honestly needs to take time out. The court of public opinion has spoken. Doesn't matter if he brings fire or not. The Internet doesn't like him. It isn't deep. Never underestimate the power of time.
You mean he had better get his ass into therapy and stay there until he comes out with some self-reflection and growth so he can make something that feels honest and true
He didn't refer to him suiing with that line.Hes saying nobody from his team should go to prison for retaliating after his bodyguard getting Nothing to do with Kendrick
The lack of situational awareness is astonishing. I am at a loss as to what people enjoy (rhyme flow, schemes, etc.); it simply does not resonate with me at all.
This freestyle is giving me cold sweats Not because it’s hard, but because I read the title as Aubrey threatening us with another horrible attempt at an accent that doesn’t belong to him Don’t rap in an Irish accent Aubrey please, I’ll stream Push-Ups five whole times 🙏
I don't mind rhyme schemes goin on for whole records... but when Drake does it.. it sounds like he just googled "words that rhyme with blank" and then just finds the easiest way to chain those words together as end rhymes only.... he has almost zero internal rhymes going on and that's the dead giveaway that he's doing exactly that.
Drake always got his flowers but we didn’t praise it at black excellence,he was just drake so that I can say. When drake was becoming pop star status we the black community didnt feel like “we got the top guy in the world” we just acknowledged drake as the top guy
Cause we didn’t. His white fanbase identifies with him because he’s white just as much as he’s black. Plus having an upbringing with mostly white people doesn’t help him be perceived as “black”.
Drake feels like the Rock to me in that way. The Rock is also half Black but doesn’t “represent” Black people, he’s just the Rock lol. That’s how I feel about Drake in the music industry.
@@LoyaltotheNightsky she was in a group called Fifth Harmony awhile back and she was caught tweeting racist things about black people and allowing racism to happen to one of her group members. Call me crazy but you see that thing Drake fans say they hate about Dot’s voice? That’s exactly how I feel about Drake when he raps. He never changes his tone or cadence or voice. I never know how he feels when he drops a bar. Even when he says he’s hurt, I’m like it doesnt sound like you are. A big part of rap is delivery and I have never liked his.
I’m one of those people that can’t stand that rhyme scheme. I don’t understand this song at all. Whining about a bunch of grown men is wild. He sounds sad.
You took my words. It sounds great! As long as you don’t pay attention to the lyrics. I actually wanna play more Drake songs now and pay more attention to lyrics like I would on a Nas, Jay, Lupe, Eminem and see was his flow that good that I was ignoring some dumb lyrics
My key takeaway from Drake’s song It wasn’t me… Come on man I got a subtle addiction… he’s admitting that he does have an addiction? I got my father’s habits … he’s admitting that he’s just like his father? My dad has another child… he’s admitting that the 11 old child is his sibling?
"It's my sister not my daughter" is going to be hilarious if that's the angle he takes. Because swapping "I'm sorry your father's not active inside your world" for "I'm sorry your BROTHER's not active inside in your world" isn't a whole lot better. A child left apart from their family because they're inconvenient to a celebrity's image.
The, "It wasn't my sister's" line, was a bad attempt at sarcasm. Because his dad is black then his sister is black. But he isn't by the "standards of his peers" which is how he explains claims of being a culture vulture. It's such a bad line. All I hear is, ‘poor me, I’m really the victim. How dare my friends not support me. I say I don’t care, but I really do I swear’…
💯 pressed AND bothered... 😏
Holy shit that goes with his rhyme scheme. “Poor me I’m really the victim” 😂

Drake is the only artist to buy friendships and to read from a diary passage to express how hurt he is about it.
What I don't understand is WHY IS DRAKE PLAYING THE VICTIM CARD?????????

I mean he kinda is right? he lost the battle he can't really act like he won or nothing happened

I think it was figurative....I think
Even figuratively its corny
7:28 the issue here is while I like extended multisyllabic rhyme schemes, the real challenge for me is how you flow around it and if it becomes too predictable through the use of simple suffix words (-ing,-a/e table, -itation ending words). Drake fails every time for me in that regard since there’s no flow switch up to keep you engaged or any use of word-bending, phonetic rhyming to differentiate your schemes a little more like a Lupe, Black Thought etc. would do much more effectively to not become to predictable during the still playing song.
“Manosphere Victim Rap”
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
7:59 "It sounds great as long as you don't pay too close attention to the lyrics" A paradox if I do say so myself

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's hilarious! It Wasn't Me is an amazing song about a terrible guy!
Subtle addiction is unintentionally hilarious.

Thank you. The flow is almost always the same with this guy
Even his voice is grating, like wtf?
This freestyle is giving me cold sweats
Not because it’s hard, but because I read the title as Aubrey threatening us with another horrible attempt at an accent that doesn’t belong to him
Don’t rap in an Irish accent Aubrey please, I’ll stream Push-Ups five whole times 🙏
👆👆👆👆👆Priceless comment
Cause we didn’t. His white fanbase identifies with him because he’s white just as much as he’s black. Plus having an upbringing with mostly white people doesn’t help him be perceived as “black”.
Well said 👏
Drake feels like the Rock to me in that way. The Rock is also half Black but doesn’t “represent” Black people, he’s just the Rock lol. That’s how I feel about Drake in the music industry.

So there is a Graham daughter, but he claims its his sister, when at first it was all a fake story he fed Kendrick? 🤔
You took my words. It sounds great! As long as you don’t pay attention to the lyrics. I actually wanna play more Drake songs now and pay more attention to lyrics like I would on a Nas, Jay, Lupe, Eminem and see was his flow that good that I was ignoring some dumb lyrics
My key takeaway from Drake’s song
It wasn’t me… Come on man
I got a subtle addiction… he’s admitting that he does have an addiction?
I got my father’s habits … he’s admitting that he’s just like his father?
My dad has another child… he’s admitting that the 11 old child is his sibling?
"It's my sister not my daughter" is going to be hilarious if that's the angle he takes. Because swapping "I'm sorry your father's not active inside your world" for "I'm sorry your BROTHER's not active inside in your world" isn't a whole lot better. A child left apart from their family because they're inconvenient to a celebrity's image.
Wasn't his dad absent for a lot of his childhood? Could be admitting to being a dead beat
dude lying that is his kid, he is embarrassed of her
