Lots of foreigners in Argentina always seem to notice how stores here are specialized in one type of product: Butcher shops, bakeries, vegetable stores, etc. Well about the velcro thing, this is no different... you should go to a "Mercería". In those places you can get everything sewing and knitting related.
My dad was Argentine. We visited Buenos Aires last June. Unfortunately he passed away unexpectedly three weeks ago. I’m really enjoying watching your vlogs remembering our trip. I will be back in Argentina one day. ❤
I don't like doing anything home improvement-related, but you and Michael did a great job troubleshooting the lighting issue. I also noticed that there isn't much insulation in homes in Argentina, so if it's in the 40's or 30's outside, it's quite cold inside. Thanks for the update!
Oh my gosh, I also had the same problem with the light fixture when I moved here!! At first, I thought that my landlord was just "lazy" and didn't want to help me, but then, after moving around some places and visiting my friends' homes, I figured out that it was normal for them. There are many little things regarding electricity/lights that I just gave up and hired a professional to solve hahah. I found your video by chance and I really liked it, it's nice to see other foreigners sharing the same experience about daily life here.
As per the lighting appliance, I've recently had to replace some similar at home (And I live in BA City too) the hole on the roof has like two little ears on each side with a hole small enough for a screw, where you can put two screws on each side and it will hold well
I would, like some others did, reccomend going to a ferretería or any local neighborhood store. And ask. Ask the people how to do it, what you need, you can even show them a picture
Howdy Chanel, how cool is it that you showed up on my recommendations? I think I've actually met you before, in one of those language exchange events in Palermo.
Nice video and nice channel - subscribed. If you think Jumbo Palermo is big ... back in Chile (where Jumbo comes from), I went in a Jumbo that had 70 checkouts!!!

those holes in the ceiling with the cables out are what's most common in buenos aires' apartments. You have to do the aesthetic fixes you want for yourself and before moving away, take them out.
Pets aren't allowed on public transport. Not on Trains, subways, buses. It's dumb but it is what it is. During the weekends you can take your dog on the subway only if it's in a pet carrier, so if the dog is too big and you can't carry both the dog and the carrier then your dog can't use the subway. Hope they change this soon.
Specialized stores are always cheaper. Home Depot was here is Buenos Aires until 2002. Easy buy it.
The light fixtures is 100% like that in Argentina. When you move you put the lighting that you want and when you left you took the lighting and leave the bulb holder thingy with 2 wires. Only light fixtures that COULD be left are the ones that use dichroic lamps that are fixed to furniture. Imagine if you are stuck with shitty owner light fixtures that you even need to take care of. Just buy the one you like and place them. You do that 1 time in years.
The problem is that we can’t figure out how to install the light fixture because we can drill or screw anything into the ceiling! It’s like open air if that makes sense
@@chanelmeyerr If you don't have room to drill, and if above the ceiling there is something like a plastic or metal socket, those, usually have two holed fins, for two screws or something similar. Instead of screws, because you should find a fixture with the exact same holes, you can loop a piece of binding wire (alambre de atar / alambre de fardo), and tighten it with pincers against the fixture. Binding wire is very thin and flexible, in most fixtures you don't see it there, even more, some fixtures have two pieces of metal, one piece goes fixed to the socket in the wall with binding wire, and the first piece, then goes with screws.
@@chanelmeyerr You just buy a bracket that goes in the hole. If you want I can give me a number for an electrician. Yeah the lighting situation in rented apartments here is a little crazy. Supposedly people just take their light fixtures from one place to another but it just feels like such a hassle for no reason
These last couple days I've heard a lot about a sort of new burger joint called "Kiddo" that's supposed to be just like McDonnalds but made better(better meat, better cooked, etc), it's very close to the shopping center you visited for this video, you guys could try it for one of these vlogs if you like that style of burger.

This has been the coldest winter in almost 15 years. Light fixes should have two parts: one you screw to fixed holes in the ceiling (a metal thingy included in the slab), and an ornamental cap that you push in place once you have all screws installed. But as we say, puede fallar.

Tbh buenos Aires aprtments are not usually insulated at all, there's a lot of old buildings with old windows and doors that make spaces even colder to be inside than out, and renters don't really care about this.
