The Din-A paper sizes make totally sense, because they are not random. When you fold the paper, you get the next smaller size and the ratio of the side lengths is always the same (1/√2).

I was in the US, more precise in Portland Oregon and they have much better beer than in Germany because they have so many micro breweries which really know how to brew really good beer. One thing Americans build tiny are sockets for electricity. In Germany it is a solid construction with a frame keeping the plug. In is in, out is out. The A4 paper size is actually derived from the metric system (which might explain why the US hasn't adopted it yet. US don't do metric.) To explain: If you lay two A4 sheets next to each other (long edges touching) you get an A3 sheet. Put two A3 sheets together and you get A2. Do the same two more times and you get A0 which has an area of exactly 1 square meter. Also the side proportions of the different formats stay the same. You get A5 by folding up A4 and so on.

so, dunno where you looked, but I just had to measure it out. My spoons that I bought from target 2 months ago($1 a pop) are exactly the same size as the ones I bought from REWE here in germany. Notable exception btw: When we were buying silverware at targets in Orem back then, we actually had to drive up to American Fork(haha) to buy the matching forks as they were sold out. I was in the US, more precise in Portland Oregon and they have much better beer than in Germany because they have so many micro breweries which really know how to brew really good beer. I germany I had good beer in a couple of small breweries in Franconia, but most of the time you just get boring Pils, in the US I got really awesome craft beer.

The german spoons are not normal spoons. I am Polish, but my auntie is German and I have always noticed that the spoons at her house were HUGE. Nowadays I live in Australia and normal sized spoons here as well. But yeah, my thought about Ikea came from that every time i can't find something here in Australia, I go to Ikea to see if they have it, since it's an European company.

Ehrlichgesagt habe ich manchmal aber auch schon gedacht, dass unsere "Suppenlöffel", insbesondere die in den älteren Bestecksätzen meiner Großelter schon irgendwie unhandlich groß sind. Da mujss man seine Suppe ja quasi aus dem Löffel schlürfen wie aus einer Tasse. Und ich selber bin nicht so klein mit über 1,80 m.

No real school degree required... That is very poor, especially when you're sitting in class and some other stundents don't even know basic math or how to find the important facts out of a text... When something is bigger in Germany and in Europe, it is still bigger. Does not matter if it is only bigger in Germany, or in Germany and Spain, or Germany and the rest of Europe. Genius.
In terms of money, the Euro notes are for the most part bigger than US dollar bills. Of course the five and ten Euro notes are smaller than the US dollar bills. The 20 Euro note is bigger in width. And the 50 and 100 Euro notes are bigger than US dollar bills. But I like the notion that the higher the value, the bigger the note. Sure the US isn't the only country that has made their currency notes the same size, but I like the Euro form better.
erickofspirit When the sizes of the bills are the same some people take 5$ notes, wash out the color and then print a 100$ bill on it to have the right paper feel. that not really possible in Europe :D

Freaky0Nina yeah, the Euro notes (as well as a few other currencies) having a different size really characterizes each one. Having each bill being a different color is the same.
Not to forget the calue in Braille printed on the bill. Additional benefit, machines can distinguish bills with different values a lot easier. And fake bills have to match the size very close to work at all.

Doppelkekse (double cookies) are bigger in Germany. the American ones, weirdly enough called "oreos" look like shrivelled, dried and long dead versions of Doppelkekse. As is their taste.

Spoons aren't any bigger in Germany than the rest of Europe. I come from the UK and the spoons I brought with me are the same size as the German ones.

The A4 paper size is actually derived from the metric system (which might explain why the US hasn't adopted it yet. US don't do metric.) To explain: If you lay two A4 sheets next to each other (long edges touching) you get an A3 sheet. Put two A3 sheets together and you get A2. Do the same two more times and you get A0 which has an area of exactly 1 square meter. Also the side proportions of the different formats stay the same. You get A5 by folding up A4 and so on.

No... I got IKEA spoons a while ago with a normal size... Just a few weeks ago I found spoons that I had to get (with flowers on it - very cute...) and they were almost one and a half times the size of the IKEA spoons... Anyways... They are not too big, even my one year old fits it into his mouth...

Mass transit networks? I live near Munich but come from St. Louis, Misery, cities that have the basic same SMSA (Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area). There is a HUGE difference in the size of public transport between almost all american cities and any german one. Tax money put to good use, as far as I can see.....
The A scale of paper has other useful attributes: you can fold them to get the next smaller denomination. Fold an A0 to get two A1 papers. Or fold one A3 and get two A4 papers.

so, dunno where you looked, but I just had to measure it out. My spoons that I bought from target 2 months ago($1 a pop) are exactly the same size as the ones I bought from REWE here in germany. Notable exception btw: When we were buying silverware at targets in Orem back then, we actually had to drive up to American Fork(haha) to buy the matching forks as they were sold out. It turns out to be a pattern in the US, people buy a lot more forks than other silverware which results them to be out all the time

In a typical Cologne pub you will get a fresh one without asking as soon as you have emptied it. If you dont want an other one put the beer coaster on the glass.
Dont confuse this with free refills you will be charged.
On the other hand the taste of Cologne beer helps not to want a second one.

I really don't like most of the Cologne beers (there are about 30 Brands of it). Some taste ok. See it that way: most locals like it. They even pay for it so it might be my personal opinion.

The German thirst for apple drinks seems to be bigger based on my visit to Frankfurt. Apple juice, apple soda with actual apple juice in it, etc., because those drinks were everywhere. One thing I liked about Germany (and the rest of Western Europe) is that sodas are more likely to contain actual fruit juice.
Spoons: Obviously this are Bavarian spoons, not the standard Germans!
