- Paul Copan (Ph.D., Philosophy, Marquette University) is a Christian theologian, analytic philosopher, apologist, and author. He is currently a professor at the Palm Beach Atlantic University (Florida) and holds the endowed Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics.
He is author or editor of over 40 books, including works such as Is God a Moral Monster? and the forthcoming Is God a Vindictive Bully?--both of which are the focus of our conversation.
In this episode, we discuss several problem passages in the Old Testament including the conquest of Canaan, the mauling of the young men who taunted Elisha (2 Kings 2), the killing of Uzzah who touched the ark (2 Sam 6), and the seemingly strange statements about women in Deuteronomy 21-22.

Great interview. Grateful for Dr. Copan's work in this area and will be reading the books mentioned 👍🏻
i think his doctorate came from toytown. talks a lot, bad at listening.
While I appreciate that Paul is trying to help educate us on the meaning of scripture; some of what is being said is out there. I do appreciate that at the end of the interview he reeled it into our Salvation through the blood of Jesus crucified and resurrected... which is the whole purpose of God's Holy word. And Preston, you are correct when you said that it's on you if you have a problem with God's word. God's word is never a problem... the problem is with us, the human.
Too bad god couldn’t “inspire” a book
that didn’t contain abject immorality, or “problem verses” as you so glibly put it. 🤦🏼♂️
repent or you go to Hell
Question: is this in Spanish?
This is very interesting information, but probably best ingested via the written word after obtaining multiple PhDs (or multiple views of this video 😉). It's about what these people believed, & their resulting experiences. A history. Still, there are too many leaps that must be made for me to be persuaded of the Divine.
These are supposedly the infallible Words of God. The One Truth of the One God. Yet, I honestly don't get it, & remain perplexed by how so many claim that they do. Like, _how?_ Religions are the most complex games of "Pretend" ever. Please, I don't mean to insult or offend. I just don't know many other ways to describe the process that results in claiming to believe in something that requires a leap of faith to even believe it exits.
could you tell god he can't just go around killing people just because they disagree with him ,we have rights down here, be a duck.
just a quick reminder that the first amendment conflicts with the first commandment
"thou shalt worship whoever you want"
and that the declaration of human rights gives ME more rights than god.
is it annoying that the satanic temple has the SAME RIGHTS as the church?
Dr Paul Copan : PhD in APOLOGETICS, got it!
Which god? The god of the Bible? Yes he is a psycho.
Are you a good person..?
@@amalrajxavier no i'm not, but tht doesn't make god good either, you nit. god kills people just for not believing he's real - how great is that.
@@HarryNicNicholas dear brother, 100/100 die. Death ceases upon everybody. GOD not only takes life from few but from everybody else. GOD gives, GOD takes. HE is Sovereign.
amal, let's face it. God sucks at being decent. As far as that goes, God sucks at being.
@@dr.johnnd6581 Prove your claim brother
Dr. Paul is not an honest man. He knows his God is in moral but just can’t come to terms with it. He’s afraid to question his God. He’s afraid to be a man
😂😂 and you just spewing words without evidence 😅😅
the christian god has no morality he just kills people without trial or representation.
the problem religists have though is that if i see someone try to - say- stab someone,
i try to stop them, whereas if you believe there is a god, you have to ask "god, did
you sanction this" - religists have NO IDEA if stabbing someone is good or bad, they need
to be told. religists have NO MORALITY AT ALL.
