Gabby Learns Harp STILL does it to me. I was misdiagnosed as a child before anyone knew anything about autism. Life has been a total nightmare. I'm 31 now, married and have 3 kids. My 2 older boys are on the autism spectrum as well. When i first heard Dan's Portrait of the Autist I did research on my own which led me to discover I too have what used to be called Asperger Syndrome. My boys were diagnosed the same. Life is tough, but for the sake of my kids I have to be even tougher. I need to show them that they CAN and WILL succeed at anything they want to.

I think the perception of low empathy comes from having too much empathy. I generally have lower empathy, but there are times I get a wave of emotion for others which I have to clamp down on to stop it overwhelming me. I think this fear of being overwhelmed and the associated reflex action is the reason my brain suppresses empathy in general.
Not sure whether this applies to everyone with aspergers.

I hear you. Maybe it's selfish, I don't know, but I always start distancing myself whenever I start to "feel" too much for another person. Simply because, as you said, it's overwhelming. I don't know what to do or how to handle it, so... I just disappear. It's better for me and the other person, I think.

i don't like rap, i'm all about punk and metal... but both of dan bull's songs, as well as your addition to one of his have truly reached me. I have Aspergers syndrome, and I always found communicating hard. I became a metal musician to express parts of myself that I couldn't openly explain. It's a tough road, but thankfully, art is a great way to express yourself. I've been thinking of writing a melodic doom metal song (slow and eerie) and write the lyrics to explain life with autism, as well as the psychological problems that can develop for some people as a result of the struggles with autism :)
keep up the great work, man!

I am the same way lol. I used to have Severe Autism where I couldn't speak in full sentences or read until i was 4 to 5, wasn't bathroom trained(I was, but often or a few times I'd shit or piss myself lmao 😝😂), couldn't write neatly or at all, Didn't speak with intention, I was hyperactive, not many people could understand me. But now I have mild to moderate Autism, Adhd and OCD(2 of which I've always had) with side effects of Depression/Anxiety where I can do things the average person does, I know how to read and write very well, I'm good at math and English(I have a thing for science and history too), I Know how to speak in full conversations, make jokes, obsess over things like Marvel(mainly Spider-Man), DC, Disney, Star wars(only the ones i like such as the original trilogy, Star wars the Clone wars, the prequels because of memes, Star wars Rogue one, Solo a star wars story). Though My brothers often call me Retarded and crazy, I usually have anger issues that result in destructive and Violent behaviors, Usually I can be awkward and goofy but sometimes cool, funny and intelligent(also reasonable, logical with common sense), people say I talk too much but I'd say sometimes I am too shy or lacking focus to speak(there are times I'm focusing on things all at once and there's alot on my mind). Also Yea I do like Metal music, my favorite bands are Avenged sevenfold, Red music online(that alternative metal-core band is Christian but their songs aren't, though they have inspirational messages), Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Skillet(they're Christian but their songs are somewhat religous), Marilyn Manson, Metalocalypse/Dethklok, Evanescence, Spoken, Guns n roses, Three Days Grace, Linkin park, and Disciple. I also love Disney songs, pop and classic rock music like Ariana Grande, Taylor swift, Katy Perry, Bruno mars, Coldplay, Queen, KISS, Michael Jackson, Gorillaz, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Eminem, Hailee Steinfeld, Nirvana, Demi lovato, Imagine Dragons, No doubt(Gwen Stefani), Christian bands like Fireflight, Casting Crowns, Third day, Movie scores from classic films and superhero movies(1989 Batman, Spider-Man trilogy, the Avengers, Star wars), cartoon TV show music themes(Spectacular Spider-Man, Spider-Man the 90s animated series, X-Men the animated series from the 90s), and Video game music. I'm actually not taking medications anymore even though without it I have a lack of focus, I now usually wake up late for school, and I instantly react to getting scolded by my parents and teachers(like snapping at them).

You know the thing about those with autism? You may seem different to the average person, you may think on a whole other level, and might not be able to always communicate with those around you. But autistic people, and even those with other disorders, are extremely creative and are always worth the effort to understand.
The biology couldn't comprehend giving someone extreme creativity and talent without taking away from something else. Prospect of alchemy, what is given must be equaled to what is taken. In other words, you guys are the next step in our evolution.

+Pressthebigredbutton I never said it is the next step, I said it's 'perhaps' a start. Rome wasn't built in a single day, and our evolution is nowhere near done.
And I never made an assumption to know what it's like. I was simply making an assessment on what I've seen from friends and family whom have autism, and how they're not second hand people as half the world seems to think.
I'm actually quite aghast to have such a thing declared upon me.

+Steven “MrKyuubi” ZachariasVA I also have High Functioning Autism. That being said I could see what you said about people higher up than me on the scale being the next step but not me myself. The problem comes in when we can't identify body language, facial expressions, or sarcasm. That is when it becomes a problem.

+Steven “MrKyuubi” ZachariasVA I don't really agree that we are the next step in evolution or whatever. That being said, being autistic ain't all bad. I can focus on things in a way that any allistic would be hard pressed to match. I personally can't do shit with it, but c'est la vie.

I don't know if Dan or Vit will ever read this, but I'm so incredibly thankful for this song. circa 2014 I was incredibly depressed. I was autistic and just entering highschool, as well as having undiagnosed gender dysphoria. I listened to this song on repeat on my shitty earbuds while doing schoolwork. I listened to it on repeat at night while wondering what was wrong with me.
everyone around me thought I was just paradoxically autistic. that I had severe textural sensitivity and almost no ability to cope with sensory overload, but being vocal and eloquent. around 2016 I started playing with the idea of my gender identity. I suppressed it for nearly half a decade after that. the covid pandemic and losing my mom got me to finally admit to myself that I was trans.
a year later I came out to my girlfriend. a year after that, 21 days after the second anniversary of my mom's death, I started HRT.
I truly don't think I would have made it here without this song. highschool was such a depressing, isolating time. I'm not sure I would have survived it without listening to this over, and over, and over.

    • @Mono_Might
      @Mono_Might 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hello Jango, I can relate to this. I am a fellow autist, and while I can't relate to gender dysphoria or losing my mother, I can relate in the textural sensitivity and sensory overload. When I work at my job and do it, people would pick on me in a mild way after I complained about splinters from boxes and pallets and how touching certain things makes me shiver, or pick on me for my social awareness deficit in certain aspects. I've found that I am better friends with people like myself. I can relate to the high school anxiety cause I had it too... I have negative thoughts a lot. I'm glad you pushed forward and made it through this. Remember, life will only keep getting better, and the more you think positively and see the good in things (and people), the better your life will get. Thank you for your time, and good luck.

      Timmy P
I know 4 girls with Autism, granted I met them in a Asperger's social grouping here in Northamptonshire.
I didn't really feel the group was for me, yes I can relate to them but at the same time I can't. I'm my own person and I've never been one for group meetings. But if anyone out there, it is worth at least trying it, it doesn't hurt to try and you may find at least one person in that group you feel a connection with.
If you're from England there is a program ran by CAMHS, and when you get older there is also a group for Adults. I was part of the Adolescent-early Adult group but I was too mature for it, so I switched to the adult one. Everyone is much older than me but I do feel more comfortable now and we go to Bars and restaurants.

Timmy P Girls in fact are not significantly less likely to have autism. Just much less likely to be diagnosed with it as the symptoms doctors will look for are mostly present in males. Females on the spectrum show traits very different from the other gender's.

This song will be in a Oscar winning movie. Awesome singing. Happy New Year 2021 from Jerusalem Israel. I am autistic and I work for Mobileye Intel in Jerusalem. I am 26 years old and I daily save lives from car accidents. I called JERUSALEM ISRAEL home for the past four and a half straight consecutive years. I will reach five years straight living in Jerusalem at the end of this upcoming May in 2021. I am going for my Oscar Academy Award victory this upcoming Sunday April 25th 2021 in Beverly Hills Los Angeles California at Dolby Theater.

As a person with Higher Level Autism, I can't be entirely down to earth. The opening, before the real song begins, is me. I was forced, by necessity, to leave that box and become more empathetic and more social. I still have my obsessions and I'm still awkward, but I can hang in most situations.
    Thanks friend. Later.

You know i see all kinds of support groups and advice pages for parents with Autistic kids particularly Aspergers which can be harder to detect because of it's high functioning nature but no matter where i look i cant find many that focus on helping adults with it continue to cope with the world around them after they have left the buffer offered by family.

You'll get there. As a twenty one year old who was diagnosed when I was five or six years old, I can tell you that this "disability" can be beaten. I can fit into society to the point that people who don't know me just think I'm shy, and kind of quiet. My advice: learn to let your close observations out only to those who won't judge you. Learn to make small talk. It helps people be calm around you. Try to voice logic less, it doesn't make good conversation. And definitely learn to empathise.

i was diagnosed with aspergers syndrome when i was six years old, i never have been able to get along with people my own age and i'm still getting better but i still have a long way to go, this song helps me in ways i can't describe. i am not cold or uncaring... but i have to admit when the class is watching a horror film... blurting out that the victim should simply slash the achilles tendons, and pull the arms from their sockets, is not handled well by your peers..they're still afraid of me.

I don't deal with autism, hell, i don't even see anyone that has autism. I never ever gave it much thought, I always just heard about it and brushed it aside like it isn't an issue in the world today. This video shows how artistic and meaningful music truly can be, cause quite frankly this spoke louder than any speech anyone could give. You and Dan are gifted. Keep this up and no matter how hard you struggle you will have fans and people who care. Keep this up and you will surpass many.

Every time I hear this song, I just wanna cry😭💓. I’m Autistic, it’s 2021, and I still remember the times where trying to get to acceptance but still didn’t had acceptance was frustrating. And some days (even though now I absolutely love being autistic), I still have days where “today was a bad day to be Autistic.” So thank you Dan bull, for this song!

    • @Autism_Forever

You can always make it a bad day to be neurotypical for those who do not accept you :)))))) Their non acceptance and lack of inclusivity is their problem. Do not make it yours. You are fine and enough just the way you are. Hang out with neurodivergent people if neurotypical ones are a burden to you.

First of all... This is simply brilliant.. Your voice is amazing and it carries out such moving words.. I have Asbergers and I relate to this so well... Except for one thing... I am not unable to feel empathy. In fact I'm so empathetic that I can't handle hurting people's feelings or hearing people's painful cries... What's that all about...? Am I just on a different part of the spectrum..?

I don't have autism myself, but my 5 year old son does. He's still non-verbal. He knows so much more than people give him credit for. Not having a voice has to be hard. Thanks for putting your music out there!

    • @Autism_Forever
      @Autism_Forever 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I was born non verbal. I was diagnosed at birth. I was diagnosed an imbecile. I used to have IQ of 187 :))))) People including my family members assumed that since I am mute and slow I must be very stupid. Little did they know... I did not let them find out. Because of their attitude I deemed them unworthy of my secret world. I have hypersensory perception in all 8 senses which includes hypersensory hearing with 1 mile hearing range. I could always hear them getting off the trolley half a mile away. By the time they got to the apartment everything was turned off and put away and I was back on the carpet drooling. I have Class 3 ASD and other severe cognitive and neurodevelopmental disabilities. I also have three post graduate degrees and am a founding partner of a small international law firm. I am glad that you are not like my family members. You can support your child to become extraordinary successful. Best of luck and thank you for being Autism friend ♥
