Peter you had me in tears. As a flight attendant I can tell you your experience happens often. People love to chat strangers up for whatever odd reason. On a plane with 143 seats and only 2 pax, a man sat next to a stranger and when I offered to move him he said “no thanks, I want to talk with this guy at the window”. I thought the man at the window was going to punch the guy. Also any flight to MIA is a nightmare so get those headphones in early for your return flight. 💙
I'm not gonna lie. I was once one of those people who kept talking to the guy next to me. He started it though. He made small talk with me and then started putting his ear buds in, but at that point, he got me in a chatty mood so I talked his ear off and pretended I didn't notice how bothered he was; I just didn't care.

I was once on a flight between 2 guys who sold surgical saws and hammers and other orthopedic surgical things. They were trying to put together a presentation so I offered to change seats, but neither wanted to do so. What they wanted was an empty seat between them to place a laptop and work. They both seemed offended that I was assigned the seat. So they spoke over and across me the entire flight. I know way too much about surgical saws.

I put my headphones in, I pretended to sleep, I tried reading, and no matter what, he kept talking. Of course, his wife was sitting in a different row, probably because she was trying to catch a break from him for a little while. Anyway, painful!

I feel so strongly that all airplanes should be remodeled and the seats should not be able to recline. Whoever came up with the idea of reclining airplane seats is a monster
I often fly overseas, long-haul flights and so reclining one’s seat is expected/normal, but even so, I always make sure to ask the person behind me if they mind me reclining my seat. Sometimes the person even says how nice it is to have someone ask first😊 Edit: I never recline my seat on a domestic flight

That happened to me on an international flight! But it was a married couple and they ended up feeding each other over me. It was AWFUL.

Pretty sure Peter's flight was a couple of hours tops sooo if a mofo leaned his seat back for an hour or 2 then THATS A PROBLEM.
