- The reasons why the Bronze Age Collapse happened are still discussed. Here are the most likely ones: natural disasters, especially drought, climatic changes, the spread of iron, and the invasion of Sea Peoples. However, the invasion can be caused by some factors as well.
The Sea Peoples is a very uncertain substation but they’re rounded up to 10 ‘peoples’: Sherden, Shekelesh, Weshesh, Ekwesh, Denyen, Lukka, Karkisa, Tjekker, Teresh, and Peleset. Their homeland is uncertain, except for Lukka who are almost exactly Lycians. As for Sherden, they’re either from Sardinia or Lydia (Sardis). They’re one of the early attested of the Sea Peoples. Shekelesh are more obscure: some people think that they’re from Sicily while others don't. There's also an assumption that they’re actually from Pisidia, Anatolia, or Sagalassos, Greece. The most obscure and unknown people are the Weshesh - literally, nothing is known about them. They can be from Troy, or from Caria, but we don’t know. Both Ekwesh and Denyen are probably from Greece as Ekwesh may be Achaeans and Denyen could be Danaians. The latter will form a few kingdoms in the Levant after Bronze Age Collapse such as Quê. The Karkisa could be from Caria but it’s unclear. Tjekker are perhaps from Troy but that’s also unclear. Teresh are quite obscure as well. They can be from Lydia, Tarsus, or even Tuscany. And finally, Peleset, who are one of the strongest of the Peoples. They’re, for sure, are Biblical Philistines. Apart from Philistia they also established a kingdom of Palistin in northern Syria, which was one the strongest kingdoms in the Levant by the end of the millennium. But what about their homeland? There are more questions. They are probably from Greece - either from Crete or Thrace. They could be former Pelasgians - pre-Mycenaean people in Hellada.
The better way to know this breaking event is to watch it on the map. So, here it is!
