I had one of these with the old hard disc drive. I put in an SSD and went with the 8 gig ram. I also found a dual band internet adapter. Its ok for office stuff. The processor is excruciatingly slow. I got it for free so i just paid for the upgrades and they're all easy to install
Hey, thanks for the video. I know I am 4 years late to the party but I I picked up this same laptop at a garage sale today with power supply and to my surprise it booted up to someone's Chromebook account. I know you said HP used the same processor so I am going to try throwing a copy of Win 10 on it. I had it charging for a couple hours and realized the battery is not holding a charge...but then again maybe it is the power plug area. I do not want to spend to much time on it but for $10 I wanted to mess around with it. I checked Amazon and for $10.00 I can get a single 8gb stick of ram but it did not show the HP branded one it was some other company. For $15.00 more I could get a 120gb ssd. I was close to maybe pulling the trigger on those two upgrades but when I realized the battery is not charging I think I am going to just and throw win 10 on it as is and try and flip it for $40.00. Your info was helpful and I appreciate it.
I actually have this exact laptop. I was not very knowledgeable about laptop specs when I bought this thing in 2017 but if I were, I would have chosen something different. I've been wanting to get rid of this thing for a long while now. It really is a piece of shit!
My advice is put Linux on an SD card and then boot from the SD card. It will run stuff like TH-cam way faster this way because it wont be using your slow hard drive.
I love mine not perfect but I knew that when it was purchased I bought mines used as a project for personal use for business although I need some upgrades for gaming on it as well
Unfortunately I have this exact same piece of crap, but it was free so I can't really complain. I was really hoping you would have shown the ssd install, because my hd is dead, guess I looked at it to hard. What kind did you use? I'm pretty much clueless about this stuff. Also, I got that exact same cucial 8 gig ram stick and it worked just fine for me so idk what that's about.
Interesting, does yours have a CPU fan installed? I know there are different models of the HP 15. I'm thinking it might be the weak ass CPU in this model won't do 8gigs. No idea what was up with it. She did get it wet inside before I worked on it which is what made the original module bad in the first place, maybe hers is just damaged because of that. Who knows. I'll have to test her old 4gig module in another laptop sometime just to see if it works in that one. But I ain't gonna dwell on it too much.
Well, I tried 2 different modules, both are on the recommended list and neither worked for me. I think it's this specific model. This one also has no CPU cooling fan inside. Very cheap junk.
No, I tested both modules with no SSD installed at all. Each of them gave me a black screen. Both modules were listed by HP as being compatible. I think that might POSSIBLY still be true, as there are different models of the 15 series notebook. This one used no cooling on the CPU, while other models do include a cooling fan. It kind of bugs me alot because I have used less of a CPU in a Chromebook with memory soldered on and it performed way better. Maybe it was the SSD brand? Who knows. The Chromebook had a 2242 SATA M.2, while this one had an Adata (if I remember correctly) 2.5" SSD, which have always been pretty decent for me in other builds and upgrades I have done.
I'm aware this comment is a year old, but I have this same laptop and I'm pretty sure the speed has nothing to do with HP, but rather the piece of shit celeron running windows 10. Gonna be putting Windows 7 on mine in the next couple days with stock parts and we'll see what happens I guess:p
Can u tell me what 1600 speed u put in their and what other stuff u did to make it faster cause I have the same piece of shit laptop I’m new at this stuff so could u please help
Yep, Linux actually isn't too bad on this POS machine. Just had another one come in last month that I worked on. Actually got 8 gigs to work on that one. Owner is so much happier with it now. It's still a dog, but not as bad. So I'm guessing the laptop in this video couldn't do 8 because of some water damage to it.
got to give you a dislike, the only useful info i got is that this laptop uses a specific memory module,it was never clear if you installed the 8gb module and if it worked.

I have the same POS.I hope this works 🙏
This booted faster than mine 😢

Same story here 😁
Here to boys, we've been played. Here's our sign

cool but i dont know if this model can take another ram or if he content one port ram

I’m wondering IF Windows 10 ITSELF IS THE PROBLEM IF the RECOMMENDED RAM modules are SCREWING UP the device

I honestly don't recall which one I used, it was one I grabbed off the shelf from my memory stick collection.
This laptop is right up there with the crappiest laptops of all time.
I bought this laptop in 2016 when I wasn't as knowledgeable about electronic specs. Not my proudest investment...
I'm running linux mint on my

Pretty sure I showed that I used 2 types of 8 that never worked, thanks for disliking because you can't pay attention very well.
