Okay so, a little context (i haven't watched the complete video yet) KoRn recorded this Album Live in studio. Meaning, instead of them recording their own Instruments seperately, and slicing them together, they performed songs in their Entirety (like a Live performance or Jam Session). The only parts that weren't were the Bagpipes in Shoots and Ladders. The breakdown that Jonathan Davis had was real. He wrote "Daddy" to address and open up about being a Molestation Victim. It is said that when he was an Adolescent, he was constantly getting Exploited Sexually by A relative who often came to babysit home (a Distant Aunt if i remember correctly). It isn't Actually about his Father. I know the title makes it seem like so. While Jonathan starts having a breakdown, the rest of the band isn't sure about what to do. Because they thought it's just one of those Illegible Phrases thing that he does in a lot of songs. That's why they kinda keep playing randomly, until they realised that it was his real reaction. Once everyone realised it, they stopped and hugged him. They kept it I guess, probably because that's how Honest Jonathan finally was at addressing something about himself that happened. In society, Men are looked down upon if they're a victim of anything. By other Men, as well as Women. It's been very hard for him to sing Daddy Live. He only did it once during the Tour for this Album's promotion. He sung it again in 2016 i think. Almost 22 years later!
In fact, he gave to the other members of the band the order to play whatever happens, that's what the say, and the demo version contain no cries and is really different, so it seems to be true
I've read books about jd and other band mates it was his babysitter. no family members raped him. the step mom didn't care though so he hates her. he has forgiven his dad. his dad didn't believe him. he never layed a hand on jd.
FYI "Ball Tongue" does not have actual lyrics, in those parts after the "ball tongue!" chorus. That's just Jonathan Davis growling and making up words and noises, mostly under the effects of methamphetamines, and speaking of, Ball Tongue was a nickname given to Jeff Creath, he was a long time friend and manager during the early days of Korn, he was a real tweaker and when he was spun for doing too much meth his tongue hanged and rolled and looked like a ball, so they started calling him "ball tongue", even though he was a friend with the guys in the band he really fucked them over and their friendship ended.
I’ve always wondered how people managed to get clean after meth. I understand wanting the high part (but makes u do the craziest shit) but even just one use, you experience the most intense withdrawals.
@@sukiyu.g Jonathan Davis quit meth cold turkey, just like that, right after they finished recording the 1st album and started touring to promote it, he realized that playing every night was not going to work if he was on meth, those two things just didn't mix, so he quit it, even tho he quit meth he turned to alcohol and cocaine, specially alcohol, which it was a big part of writing lyrics for Life Is Peachy, he was drunk most of the time.

The song “faget” is about a childhood bully he had when he was at school. Anyways, if you liked this album you should definitely check out their next album “life is peachy” still has that super raw and heavy sound. There third album “follow the leader” is pretty good too. They went a little more radio friendly on that one but it’s still a great album.
@@craigdepauw2664 actually the bullying was because he was a goth kid who listened to new wave bands, had long hair, wore makeup, and sometimes wore kilts. The bullies were being homophobic because he wasn’t traditionally “manly”, hence the line “I’m just a prettyboy, whatever you call it, you wouldn’t know a real man if you saw it”
They did get radio friendly, but their music still slapped, same with Breaking Benjamin. Korn's last 3 albums have been a blast to listen to as well, The Serenity Of Suffering was the album I absolutely needed starting high school and consistently played it every week during the high school years

F**et is about how Jonathan was bullied and called homophobic slurs in high school. He was a goth kid back in the 80s, so he listened to new wave bands like The Cure & Duran Duran and wore makeup. This lead bullies to treat him horribly and call him gay and accuse him of being less of a man. The yells of “HIV” are because bullies would call him that as a nickname, referring to the disease HIV, but pronouncing it as “hivve”. It’s also about how he has questioned his own sexuality and identity with lines like “all my life, who am I?” It’s pretty much him getting back at his bullies and condemning the homophobic super macho mindset they had. “I’m just a prettyboy whatever you call it. You wouldn’t know a real man if you saw it.”
I was 12 when this came out and immediately obsessed!! Korn has such a unique sound, no one sounds like them and never will! A little info about the lyrics on this album (and all of Korns albums for that matter): They never officially released any lyrics to their songs. The singer, Jonathan, stated that he wanted fans to LISTEN primarily to the emotional quality of the songs, rather than follow along in lyrics. He even stated it was fine for fans to make up their own lyrics, based on what they *thought* he was singing! It was all about making a personal connection with the songs. So, any Korn lyric found online, or in Spotify, is not official.

While listening to “lies” it’s funny you mentioned it sounds like a vampire theme song. If you’ve ever heard of the movie “queen of the damned” Jonathan Davis, singer for KoRn, writes the songs for the vampire lestat
1:15 I saw them open for Sick of it All at a tiny club in Berkeley in 1993 or 94 and that 808 sounded so insane reverberating off the walls. Good times.
The boss battle as you referred to it as, is not about his parents doing anything to him, it's about his parents not believing him when he told them something was going on. The emotion in this song is frightening and iconic at the same time JD went years and could never perform this song live. He has only done it a hand full of times. Also at the end when he is talking and crying, it wasn't suppose to be recorded, but the producer kept the tape running, all that you hear at the end was/is not part of the song its JD breaking down 100% raw emotion..
Korn Lyrics can be quite hard to figure out at times because Jonathan Davis always said that they don't put the lyrics in the CD Booklets because if you cannot figure out the lyrics from listening to the music you're not really listening.
Dude man i wouldn't care if it is my favorite song , i dont watch reaction videos for fake ass reactions, i watch them to get peoples true opinion Keep it real and ill keep watching
Enjoyed your thoughts on Korn. You should get on some more album reactions if you can. Also noticed your headphones. I have two from that company. It good to see people using quality to listen and react.
Man, seeing and hearing a black dude loving listening to KoRn for the first time makes me so happy. There shouldn’t be a divide. It’s not weird for a white person to love hip hop and it shouldn’t be weird for a black person to love a completely new genre to them either. I haven’t stopped smiling through this whole video. This is the first video I have watched of yours but I’m subscribing and I’ll keep watching all of it. Much love brother 🤟
1:10:47 need to watch queen of the damned. Has tons of music from korn, and Jonathan has a cameo in the movie. Also has deftones in the movie and its great.
The album you just listened too us the Foundation of Nu-Metal, but Korns "follow the leader " is another work of art, they combine there style with mainstream and it vaulted them into super stardom. Alot of diehard heavy korn fans didn't like it, but you would greatly appreciate the artistry.. should definitely check it out.
Yeah, Slipknot and Korn are boxed into the same genre of Nu-metal, but their sound is very different... Also just a lil note, since i haven't seen anyone mention it... This album basically blew the doors open for the Nu-Metal craze that was massively popular throughout the 90's and early 2000's... The state of the music industry was getting stale back then, but this album flipped the whole thing upside down.
I bet you figured this out already and I haven't read all the comments so i hope I'm not repeating, but there is a good reason, as a rapper, your relating to this band. Korn is actually pioneering a new genre at this time called NuMetal, a sort of fusion of Hard Rock and Hip-Hop, both in the vocal performance and in the musicality of the instruments. Soon after Limp Bizkit, Incubus, Rammstein and many others followed suit and they toured together a lot, all unique in their own way. Korn is still the best but Limp Bizkit is a fun journey as well starting with Three Dolla Bill album! Great reaction and album review! glad I watched the whole thing!
there’s 14 korn albums and 8 of them you should DEFINITELY react to. Life is Peachy (1996) Follow the Leader (1998) - the album that made them rockstars Issues (1999) Untouchables (2002) The Paradigm Shift (2013) Serenity of Suffering (2015) The Nothing (2019) These are their best albums and your life will change. There’s no denying it. Enjoy the music brotha 💯💯
A little bit of fun facts about the album: Ball Tongue is about a guy that I believed mooched off the band for a long time that they called Ball Tongue. In the chorus, Spotify thinks they identified lyrics, but the singer claimed that he said absolutely nothing. The guitarist, Brian Head Welch, was the one that screamed Ball Tongue in the track. Clown is about a guy in a Clown costume who had tried to beat Jonathan Davis up on stage before a body guard knocked him out. Probably my favorite song on the album. Head also sings in the chorus of Lies Daddy is about a guy who had molested Jonathan Davis, his mom allegedly saw it but did nothing about it. Very brutal song, probably the most vulnerable album that’s out still. Not many do it like JD does it.
If you are looking to for a great Death Metal scream tutorial, check out Happy Lights. It’s a vocalist who has great videos on how to do them. Also check out his band Tallah, it’s like Korn and Slipknot on steroids.
How the hell did Musixmatch dare to put lyrics to Jonathan's scatts in Ball Tongue? that's so dumb. By the way first video I see of yours and you have a charming energy. Loved it
Man its awesome that you chose this Korn album. To me personally its their best just like Undertow is to TOOL and like Adrenaline is to Deftones. Id say the same about the selftitled Slipknot album and LD.50 to Mudvayne.
I haven't met any of the members but from stories I've heard from people that have, Korn is really nice to their fans and I think that during the moment you were with them it was just becuase of them being drunk
Correct me if I am wrong but "Daddy" is about a neighbor or baby sitter who was abusing Jonathan and his parents didn't believe him when he told them what was happening to him, hence the mommy and daddy references.
It’s a real thing. I know I’m ugly. I know people see that. Many will try and say “nah cabby, you’re handsome.” I know it’s a shallow compliment. And I’m ok with being this way. It made me develop my sense of humor and other parts of my personality that have people want to be around me.
You should react to some of the bootleg live performances from like 1994-97 that are on TH-cam, they’re gems. The albums are beautiful but Korn was on another level live.
"Mary had a little lamb fleece white as M-M-M-M" 😂 In shoots and ladders when that verse is played he also follows it with "Yessir yessir three bags full"

I still swear that he's saying: I CAN see that I'm going blind. Change my mind. Also I'm pretty sure he's saying: ripping my insides each time I lay with you. Nu Metal is an umbrella term that encompasses the music that came after Grunge in the metal scene that had a certain sound. It doesn't necessarily have to have rap in it. Its more about mostly simplified riffs and low end down-tuned guitars with a hip-hop type of beat. But it can also be more than that. Korn are considered one of the founding fathers of Nu Metal. Nu Metal has since become a "dirty word" but i love it. Korn only has one singer (Johnathan Davis) but when live one of the guitarist (traditionally Head) does backup vocals. At some point Head left but has since returned so the only band member from the original lineup that isn't in the band anymore is David Silvera (the original drummer). He (David) was a excellent fit for Korn earlier sound. Personally I haven't been a big fan of Korn since their 5th album Untouchables came out. I love their first two albums and have a nostalgic spot for the 3rd and 4th but Untouchables just doesn't do it for me at all other than like 2 or 3 songs. The albums that follow Untouchables have some decent stuff on them but imo they follow the same formula that was established in Untouchables. Most people love Untouchables but I started listening to Korn in 94 and just don't like the direction Untouchables goes in.
Ball Tongue is about the band’s meth dealer and the effects of the drug. At the time, they all did meth behind each other’s back’s and he ended up stealing their money, hence the lyrics “You were my brother, where does our friendship end?”.
those first few korn albums when they showed up was like magic... like what the fuck is this?.... nothing like this was ever heard before, it brought in a new era... they were the nirvana of the next guitar generation of listeners
@@kw1ll1sreacts he does a lot of scatting which aren't necessarily supposed to form any meaningful words or sentences. At least afaik. Also I think he said in an interview that he doesn't like to clarify or write the lyrics down so that they could have multiple interpretations. So unless the lyrics were explicitly written down by them, you can take them with a grain of salt. That should clear some confusion if you're going to do their next album Life is Peachy :p
Daddy is about Jonathan being molested by a friend of the family that babysat him. He told his parents and they didn’t believe him. He told the band and everyone in the booth to keep recording no matter what happens. His breakdown at the end is him actually going through the pain again. The band just kept doing whatever they could to not interfere.

helmet in the bush - about them (the band) wanting to quit meth, but they just keep going back to it
daddy - ...i think it's obvious.
hope this cleared the sir for anybody who's curious :-)
You're literally perfect at pausing at exact moments where you miss particular special and funny parts and idk how you do that so perfectly.
While listening to “lies” it’s funny you mentioned it sounds like a vampire theme song. If you’ve ever heard of the movie “queen of the damned” Jonathan Davis, singer for KoRn, writes the songs for the vampire lestat
Watching your reaction all over again... great work, man.. :)
наконец то нашла нормального реакционера,жду больше видео с корн
10:15 John isn’t singing actual lyrics here, he’s scatting
one of the best albums of the 90s for sure
amazing video
Fantastic reaction to this masterpiece buddy!!! I do believe your life changed a little after listening to this!!!!
1:15 I saw them open for Sick of it All at a tiny club in Berkeley in 1993 or 94 and that 808 sounded so insane reverberating off the walls. Good times.
52:20 “Go!”
JD: GO!
KW1LL1S: 😮
Thank you for this lol
Dude man i wouldn't care if it is my favorite song , i dont watch reaction videos for fake ass reactions, i watch them to get peoples true opinion
Keep it real and ill keep watching
HOLD UP
You only have like 200 subs wtf, you deserve more, your reaction vids are great
Do you take requests or do individual songs?
49:04 Did you see like a shadow pass by the lil peep sign? Was that from outside? Ghost?
there’s 14 korn albums and 8 of them you should DEFINITELY react to.
Life is Peachy (1996)
Follow the Leader (1998) - the album that made them rockstars
Issues (1999)
Untouchables (2002)
The Paradigm Shift (2013)
Serenity of Suffering (2015)
The Nothing (2019)
These are their best albums and your life will change. There’s no denying it.
Enjoy the music brotha 💯💯
They are consistent af with albums.
Take A Look In The Mirror and See You On The Other Side slander. They absolutely should also be listened to.
@@THEhelloinsanity syotos is not great but i like talitm
@@metalmike6668 SYOTOS is my favorite, TALITM #2, lol.
K3 is cool af. Takes few listens through it to click tho.
Great reaction! Nice to see actual analysis. Noticed you don’t post much anymore but I’d love to see more from you 💪🏽
i never get over how much i love the snare on this album
You figured out the meaning of shoots and ladders before you even heard the song😭💪
Great shit man! Need more album reviews!!
A little bit of fun facts about the album:
Ball Tongue is about a guy that I believed mooched off the band for a long time that they called Ball Tongue.
Head also sings in the chorus of Lies
Daddy is about a guy who had molested Jonathan Davis, his mom allegedly saw it but did nothing about it. Very brutal song, probably the most vulnerable album that’s out still. Not many do it like JD does it.
I should also add that this is the album that started the ‘Nu Metal’ genre that has bands from slipknot all the way to POD and Papa Roach.
If you are looking to for a great Death Metal scream tutorial, check out Happy Lights. It’s a vocalist who has great videos on how to do them. Also check out his band Tallah, it’s like Korn and Slipknot on steroids.
You telling me Shoots and ladders doesn't have a part of One? :V
Great reaction man. It's a pleasure to revisit complete albums.
Total MASTERPIECE 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You know, my favorite part of shoots and ladders. When they were doing the merry had a little lamb. You could hear the baba Black Sheep Nursery rhyme
Correct me if I am wrong but "Daddy" is about a neighbor or baby sitter who was abusing Jonathan and his parents didn't believe him when he told them what was happening to him, hence the mommy and daddy references.
It was a female babysitter who was a friend of the family
It’s a real thing. I know I’m ugly. I know people see that. Many will try and say “nah cabby, you’re handsome.” I know it’s a shallow compliment. And I’m ok with being this way. It made me develop my sense of humor and other parts of my personality that have people want to be around me.
All albums are unique. This is classic. Untouchables. Great as well
Screaming is an art andvery therapeutic
You should react to some of the bootleg live performances from like 1994-97 that are on TH-cam, they’re gems. The albums are beautiful but Korn was on another level live.
Loved this reaction 😅 but i wish the spotify lyrics were corrected lol
"Mary had a little lamb fleece white as M-M-M-M" 😂
In shoots and ladders when that verse is played he also follows it with "Yessir yessir three bags full"
homie i am TELLING you. listen to ALL those korn albums and it WILL inspire you. you have noooo idea. i can tell ur diggin this shit and i gotta see u react to those other korn albums
i would also check out Hed Pe’s first album. It’s rock/metal/hip hop/punk/reggae. it’ll change the way you think of music. just go for it
I'm so happy someone mentioned hed(pe). I looooved their first two albums
This album came out changed what I thought I liked in music. This was it 🔥🔥🔥
fun fact. this whole album was recorded while under the influence of meth, cocaine, pills, psychedelics, and alcohol
Don’t forget weeeeeed 😏
I've been lucky to see KoRn in there prime 3 times and it was amazing everytime
I’m just now discovering this video but update..Spotify has updated the lyrics 😂
lol thanks
Full album review. This is awesome.
You are awesome
The second crow movie has a Korn song in it called Sean Olsen it’s a really good song,, also you should react to Korn’s second album!!
what i heard was that 'ring around the rosies' nursery rhyme was from the middle ages around the black plague, as a ring on the palm of your hand was a symptom
Great reaction, and by the way, it’s only Jonathan Davis that’s doing the singing in the band!
Great react, More korn please support ti México 🇲🇽❤️🤟
So down for a shoots and ladders cover
Easily one of the best reactions to anything by anyone. Should definitely just go through every Korn album, in order.
Your next reaction should be Korns second album, Life is Peachy
I dont know if you had, but you should listen to the whole issues album
those first few korn albums when they showed up was like magic... like what the fuck is this?.... nothing like this was ever heard before, it brought in a new era... they were the nirvana of the next guitar generation of listeners
I used to play twisted metal 2 on PS1 and listen to this album when I was 14.
Fake is my favourite that song so dam smooth
Sub number 307. This is only the 2nd video I’ve seen but I’m interested in seeing where you go.
1:10:09 'if i was a vampire this would be our meet up song' LMAO
Def wrong lyrics lol, loved the reaction, cheers!
You should definitely check nation - sepultura
Watched Queen of the damned. It's a vampire rock music film and Jonathan makes the music and songs for it.
Raw ass emotion unfiltered
12:00 if you have a friend who is as close as a brother, can you let them go? i can't, and that can be very painful. love is the most dangerous thing on earth.
