If you replace Splash Mountain, you have to GO ALL IN. You have to have the ride be about the movie. You have to create tension, add Dr. Facilier and create a reason to be on the ride. Instead, as usual, Disney goes the safe route and creates Splash Boredom.
Gotta say... I'm loving this new music 🎶 🎵 that's all great 👍 👌 BUT... you're absolutely right... zero tension. Zero drama. Seems am absolute bunt of a journey. Average. 😏👌
Biggest mistake is not having any stake in this ride. I remember the first time being terrified when we reached the final drop and it wasn't so much of a drop but the visuals and atmosphere with the vulchers and Brer Rabbit captured. It made the drop much more terrifying. My mom had to convince me to look up at the vulchers to show me that they weren't a threat because their phrases and voices were just so scary lol.
bowing to political correctness is their worst mistake,especially when there was nothing racist about splash mountain. no reference to slave days whatsoever. it was a ride about the adventures of a rabbit being chased by a fox and a bear. when i finally get to ride it,nothing will keep me from singing "zip a dee doo dah" after the big drop.
As mentioned, if only they'd just built something brand new, somewhere else somehow for Tiana... putting all those great new songwriters to good use.... but the sad truth is, it just doesn't and wouldn't ever fill the boots of what used to be there. 😔

Disney Animator, here...the thing does NOT look great, take a closer look. It's awful, in comparison to Splash. I worked on the creation of Splash, with my friends, and it was a MASTERPIECE, and this is tripe.....
This is a fair enough opinion, and I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. Visually, it looks stunning, but like you say, there is no element of risk or danger. I agree with you. They should have left Splash Mountain as it was.
Yes, there is NO, element of Classic Disney Storytelling, or even regular classic storytelling, none. the effects aren't great, either. the lady robot barely did anything, and the scrimped with big LED screens?? "really", INSTEAD OF MORE ANIMATRONIC figures, "Screens" I almost fainted at how tacky that was...Poor Tony, I bet he has been crying his eyes out at the loss of his "baby", Splash Mountain, and so mortified by this tripe.
Just based on the external appearance of the mountain itself, that's enough for me to judge its inferiority to its predecessor. It has literally become one UGLY "mound of doo". I would have liked to have seen either Gummi Bears or Winnie The Pooh integrated in Splash Mountain 1989 rather than Song Of The South.

Thank you for your review, and I agree with you! I am seeing this ride as one that you just ride once then never again. It just looks very boring. Splash Mountain was leaps and bounds better! At least in Splash Mountain you had a lot of things to find and discover each time, and you also had a story behind the drop. Now, it has become a ride that looks good, but no real story and they didn't even follow the movie, added an ascot and a hat to the cast members uniforms. It reminds me a lot like the Navi River Ride, one time was all I needed, I have not touched that ride since. But thank you again for your review! Much appreciated!
Its bad. Its really really bad lol. Disney seriously underestimated how popular the characters, music and story of Splash Mountain are. This just feels like an empty and lifeless void of what was once there. I will be saving up to go to Tokyo Disney instead of wasting my money to visit the parks here in the states.

While I appreciate the animatronics and technical achievements, story wise, it's full of "so what?" There's no real threat, no real danger prior to the drop. Say what you will about the original, at least there was excitement before the drop (and a happy and memorable tune at the end to balance things out). The original made you feel something emotionally. There was just a ton of missed opportunity.
You are spot on with your comments. Splash Mountain was theme park genius. It was one of the best attractions I've ever seen. It was truly a masterpiece, a work of art. They should never have dumped it. Bad move.

I will say, ABSOLUTELY you should watch The Princess and the Frog if you haven't already. It might help you to know that the team behind the movie is very different from the team behind the ride, and in fact the directors of the movie (alongside Tony Baxter himself) disagree entirely with the direction they took with the ride! The film is a great, fun time that I shall continue to enjoy, especially knowing that the attitude behind it is way different from what went into this trashfire!
You should do another video on this because the ride is getting ratio'ed to hell and back. By now, it's 2/3s dislikes, it's unreal how hard Disney dropped the ball on this. Almost NO ONE likes it.
I loved "Princess and the Frog", and this attraction isn't so much a ride based on that film, but a Disney Jr. attraction about a Food company CEO, who wants you to help her find animals to play for a company party.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure is wokism embodied in ride form. It’s vapid, boring, stupid, low quality, uninspired, unimaginative, and has a weak, uninteresting plot. The ride has substantial blank spaces and lacks quality show scenes because Disney is no longer able to create quality dark rides with animatronics and three-dimensional show scenes that don’t rely on screens to tell the story. The few animatronics are low quality despite the supposedly advanced technology used for them. The music is uninspired and terrible. The ride scene before the first big lift hill features what appears to be a plywood wall with pictures of food painted on it. I hope this is just a temporary construction wall and not a permanent show scene. Disney’s quality has declined so markedly that it’s no longer possible to discern the difference between a construction wall and what Disney considers good enough to be a permanent show scene. This ride would have been better off being based off of The Princess and the Frog movie and should have included Dr. Facilier. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is abysmal in its own right and is made even worse by the fact that it replaced Splash Mountain which was a fantastic ride that ranked among the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean as Disney’s best rides. Splash Mountain was not racist and did not need to be replaced. Tiana's Bayou Adventure was not a “necessary downgrade” as the Disney apologist blog, Blog Mickey, absurdly states. Downgrading Splash Mountain was unnecessary and was done to appease a woke fringe minority who is offended by everything. Disney wants to condition its park guests to accept a downgraded, lackluster park experience as normal which guests should never accept. Customers should refuse to spend money on a terrible, purposely downgraded experience. The frequent breakdowns of this ride must be part of the “necessary downgrade” of Splash Mountain to Tiana's Bayou Adventure and are symbolic of the decline of Disney.
Splash Mountain was tied to the story Song of the South which has been banned forever as a result… Song of the South was just racist…it needed to go…lmaooo
I first rode Splash Mountain with my mom as a ten year old. Even only riding it a few times melted my heart and I will always remember it. This ride was so remarkable for its catchy music and soul. This new ride lacks it all!

The animatronics are not even being used to their capacity, AND they used LED screens in places, instead of actual Animatronic figures, ugh.

On the outside all I see is a lumpy mountain with fake foliage stuck to it. The animatronics aren’t doing anything. They’re just rocking back and forth and singing. There isn’t anything interesting happening.
To me a ride at WDW, is like a song, it should have a story with "colour" (no not that sort of colour) it should take you on a journey, and im sorry BUT Dr Facilier is such the obvious/no brainer choice to add the sinister element, they really missed a trick with that one! If its just about jolly stuff, make a separate senic ride like Na'vi River Journey, no drops etc. Watching the side by side footage, i can appreciate the "Main" animatronics but allot of the others have very odd basic rocking type motion....I mean have you seen Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey in Tokyo DisneySea? Its insane! But no doubt we will ride it on our trip next year....just to say weve done it
Disney was worried that Dr. Facilier could promote negative stereotypes of african americans since he is portrayed as the villain. It is the same reason they have removed Captain Hook and Tinkerbell as characters you can get your picture taken with.
@@DannytheTourist That is just what I read online. Disney announced they would no longer have meet and greets for Hook or Tinkerbell as they are no longer considered politically correct. There are articles online if you want to read more about it, but the reasons given were that since Hook is disabled due to his hook it was not good to portray him as a villain. This is the same reason for Dr. Facilier. For tinkerbell, she is problematic because she is "body conscious" and has a crush on Peter Pan.
Hey OOK.... I think the reason they changed Splash to Tianas was because what Splash was based on Song of the south... I think there was a little negative press. Behind the Attraction.... soo think that’s why they changed it do to that pressure....
This is really bad! Can't wait to ride that awesome new Donkey Kong coaster over at the new and exciting Epic Universe. As for this new snooze fest wake me up when it's over.
The YT Disney Parks channel, which I believe is managed by the Disney Co itself, has posted a fairly complete ride-through view of the new attraction. Comments under the vid are heavily negative. Same thing with comments under other Disney products (eg, Lucasfilm) like the Acolyte series. "Disney" has become a captive of mean, sour, unpleasant social-political extremists.

@gridley 🙄 I think you've kinda got this the WRONG way round. The only activists and extremists are those who sabotaged Star Wars and wanted rid of Splash Mountain. Wake up.
Excellent review, painful as it is. It had to be said. And we really shouldn't 'get used' to bad quality--especially from the place that was once the best in all the world.
If any parents at Disney world are desperate to leave, they should put their kids on this ride. The little nippers will drop off to sleep and parents can sneak the kids to the car without protest.
This is how a small change could drastically improve the ride. If they were to change the dialouge of Tiana just sitting there with perhaps one where she gets bound down by something right next to the laughing place. Then include a spirit of Dr. Facilier where the mama odie scene is where she turns u small. Adds more dramatic/green lighting around the vines instead of the golden lights, as well as using green and purple instead of yellow and blue for where the frogs are (laughing place) (make the lights below the water that shoots out green to look like attacks). change the screens of Louis and Tiana just.. watching u on screen to one of Dr.Facilier taunting u and have the fireflys attempting to swat the spirit or whatever away.. Dr Facilier tries to attack u one more time through the screen where it currently has momma Odie saying get ready to get big. Before we see her at the lift hill fighting a green fog machine.. Hinting that she succeeded in turning us big again. That would add tensions (especially if they include just the tail end of Friends on the other side. The part post the contract being done.. as u go up the lift hill)Then right at the end or whatever where the city can be seen in the background have like a small version of that potion bottle with a green light in it or something to symbolize his capture. And boom.. There u go disney. Theres tension.. it doesnt require too much and justs requires some new animations and changing the colors of lights.. but there u go.. Theres ur tension. even if its short.. its still tension.. and will dramatically improve the ride.
The blueprint to silence the majority of the criticism was right there in front of them. It’s not only present in the former ride itself, but within the same park. Create a traditional dark ride style retelling of this animated story. Use the villain to create a dramatic conflict which builds to the big drop. Simple, and they failed.
The idea that Disney have gone backwards is such an odd thing to get your head around. Since Walt himself they have always been such a forward thinking organisation innovating and pushing the envelope but recently there have been a lot of things that makes this Disney veteran very sad and disappointed. Hey I will reserve judgement until I've been on it but I sense it will be another example of changing something but not spending the Disney dollars to make it something special!

Most notably, the tension and build up to the drop on Splash, is now dead. 😏👌
This is just an opinion, to which OOK is entitled to. Just because we haven't been on it, we can see it looks visually stunning, but where is the element of suspense? There isn't any. Were you actually listening to what OOK was saying?
To be honest, I haven’t been on the ride because it’s not open in the park I go to. However, it definitely seems like they pretty much missed the mark. Sure, Splash Mountain wasn’t properly maintained and it wasn’t a well received IP attraction, but it seems like this ride is actually worse than the IP it was. I mean Tiana buying a Salt Mine and Salt Dome, are they trying to spark more controversy than what it was? To be honest, from what I seen from the character in Princess and the Frog, Tiana is a smart hard working women who is a person of color, which that is pretty much the dumbest decision made. Unless if she got possessed by Dr. Facilier that may explain why Disney messed up, but in the mean time there’s nothing basically exciting about the ride. Not even the so called celebration song that isn’t really a celebration.
I don't expect people who love Splash to ever like this ride. They feel like something has been taken from them and this will always be a bitter reminder of that, so when they have negative opinions of the ride I'm just like, "Duh". The discourse around the ride has been downright toxic and that's before bringing up the hateful racist portion of the detractors (Fullblown racists meltdowns all over Twitter. Sad and hilarious at the same time). I never had an emotional attachment to Splash. One of my least favorite of the big attractions and having been given a tape of the movie as a kid I ejected it before the end credits, so I'm on the other side of the fence. I'm glad that this ride exists and I think it looks cool. Going in November to ride it so I'll reserve judgement until then but I like what I've seen.

I think the log ride at Silver Dollar City, Mo is excellent. Fire in the Hole too! People there are very friendly. Pretty good park IMO.

I hope this is just a temporary construction wall and not a permanent show scene. Disney’s quality has declined so markedly that it’s no longer possible to discern the difference between a construction wall and what Disney considers good enough to be a permanent show scene.
This ride would have been better off being based off of The Princess and the Frog movie and should have included Dr. Facilier.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure is abysmal in its own right and is made even worse by the fact that it replaced Splash Mountain which was a fantastic ride that ranked among the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean as Disney’s best rides.
Splash Mountain was not racist and did not need to be replaced.
Tiana's Bayou Adventure was not a “necessary downgrade” as the Disney apologist blog, Blog Mickey, absurdly states. Downgrading Splash Mountain was unnecessary and was done to appease a woke fringe minority who is offended by everything.
Disney wants to condition its park guests to accept a downgraded, lackluster park experience as normal which guests should never accept. Customers should refuse to spend money on a terrible, purposely downgraded experience.
The frequent breakdowns of this ride must be part of the “necessary downgrade” of Splash Mountain to Tiana's Bayou Adventure and are symbolic of the decline of Disney.

I first rode Splash Mountain with my mom as a ten year old. Even only riding it a few times melted my heart and I will always remember it. This ride was so remarkable for its catchy music and soul. This new ride lacks it all!

On the outside all I see is a lumpy mountain with fake foliage stuck to it. The animatronics aren’t doing anything. They’re just rocking back and forth and singing. There isn’t anything interesting happening.

To me a ride at WDW, is like a song, it should have a story with "colour" (no not that sort of colour) it should take you on a journey, and im sorry BUT Dr Facilier is such the obvious/no brainer choice to add the sinister element, they really missed a trick with that one! If its just about jolly stuff, make a separate senic ride like Na'vi River Journey, no drops etc.
Watching the side by side footage, i can appreciate the "Main" animatronics but allot of the others have very odd basic rocking type motion....I mean have you seen Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey in Tokyo DisneySea? Its insane!
But no doubt we will ride it on our trip next year....just to say weve done it
Disney was worried that Dr. Facilier could promote negative stereotypes of african americans since he is portrayed as the villain. It is the same reason they have removed Captain Hook and Tinkerbell as characters you can get your picture taken with.

@@DannytheTourist That is just what I read online. Disney announced they would no longer have meet and greets for Hook or Tinkerbell as they are no longer considered politically correct. There are articles online if you want to read more about it, but the reasons given were that since Hook is disabled due to his hook it was not good to portray him as a villain. This is the same reason for Dr. Facilier. For tinkerbell, she is problematic because she is "body conscious" and has a crush on Peter Pan.

Hey OOK.... I think the reason they changed Splash to Tianas was because what Splash was based on Song of the south... I think there was a little negative press. Behind the Attraction.... soo think that’s why they changed it do to that pressure....

This is really bad! Can't wait to ride that awesome new Donkey Kong coaster over at the new and exciting Epic Universe. As for this new snooze fest wake me up when it's over.
The YT Disney Parks channel, which I believe is managed by the Disney Co itself, has posted a fairly complete ride-through view of the new attraction. Comments under the vid are heavily negative. Same thing with comments under other Disney products (eg, Lucasfilm) like the Acolyte series. "Disney" has become a captive of mean, sour, unpleasant social-political extremists.
Or maybe they'll just say something, when 'they' get it wrong.
Anyway, as mentioned, if only they'd just built something brand new, somewhere else somehow for Tiana... putting all those great new songwriters to good use.... but the sad truth is, it just doesn't and wouldn't ever fill the boots of what used to be there. 😔

Excellent review, painful as it is. It had to be said. And we really shouldn't 'get used' to bad quality--especially from the place that was once the best in all the world.
It would be okay if they weren't now charging you HUNDREDS of dollars per day, what with admission, Genie Plus and Lightning Lanes. Wait a minute ....
If any parents at Disney world are desperate to leave, they should put their kids on this ride. The little nippers will drop off to sleep and parents can sneak the kids to the car without protest.
This is how a small change could drastically improve the ride. If they were to change the dialouge of Tiana just sitting there with perhaps one where she gets bound down by something right next to the laughing place. Then include a spirit of Dr. Facilier where the mama odie scene is where she turns u small. Adds more dramatic/green lighting around the vines instead of the golden lights, as well as using green and purple instead of yellow and blue for where the frogs are (laughing place) (make the lights below the water that shoots out green to look like attacks). change the screens of Louis and Tiana just.. watching u on screen to one of Dr.Facilier taunting u and have the fireflys attempting to swat the spirit or whatever away.. Dr Facilier tries to attack u one more time through the screen where it currently has momma Odie saying get ready to get big. Before we see her at the lift hill fighting a green fog machine.. Hinting that she succeeded in turning us big again. That would add tensions (especially if they include just the tail end of Friends on the other side. The part post the contract being done.. as u go up the lift hill)Then right at the end or whatever where the city can be seen in the background have like a small version of that potion bottle with a green light in it or something to symbolize his capture. And boom.. There u go disney. Theres tension.. it doesnt require too much and justs requires some new animations and changing the colors of lights.. but there u go.. Theres ur tension. even if its short.. its still tension.. and will dramatically improve the ride.

The blueprint to silence the majority of the criticism was right there in front of them. It’s not only present in the former ride itself, but within the same park. Create a traditional dark ride style retelling of this animated story. Use the villain to create a dramatic conflict which builds to the big drop. Simple, and they failed.
The idea that Disney have gone backwards is such an odd thing to get your head around. Since Walt himself they have always been such a forward thinking organisation innovating and pushing the envelope but recently there have been a lot of things that makes this Disney veteran very sad and disappointed. Hey I will reserve judgement until I've been on it but I sense it will be another example of changing something but not spending the Disney dollars to make it something special!

this baffles me. How can everyone say they don't like something they haven't ridden yet? None of you have even seen it in person, so how can you say you don't like it? This baffles me.
I said that very thing at 3:28.... i, you, we have not yet been on it yet. So we won't know what it's actually like. Bit, my point in this video (as unscripted and off the cuff as it was) is that despite incredible music, animatronics and effects.... it 'seems' a fraction of what once was.
Most notably, the tension and build up to the drop on Splash, is now dead. 😏👌
The videos of the ride is good enough to judge it. You dont have to ride it to find that out.

Just because we haven't been on it, we can see it looks visually stunning, but where is the element of suspense? There isn't any. Were you actually listening to what OOK was saying?
Because they can see the long stretches of darkness and the lack of a Disney-grade story. Would this make a good movie? A story Without conflict?

To be honest, I haven’t been on the ride because it’s not open in the park I go to. However, it definitely seems like they pretty much missed the mark. Sure, Splash Mountain wasn’t properly maintained and it wasn’t a well received IP attraction, but it seems like this ride is actually worse than the IP it was. I mean Tiana buying a Salt Mine and Salt Dome, are they trying to spark more controversy than what it was? To be honest, from what I seen from the character in Princess and the Frog, Tiana is a smart hard working women who is a person of color, which that is pretty much the dumbest decision made. Unless if she got possessed by Dr. Facilier that may explain why Disney messed up, but in the mean time there’s nothing basically exciting about the ride. Not even the so called celebration song that isn’t really a celebration.
Submarine voyage is lame, they could have replaced that ride with Tiana’s.

I don't expect people who love Splash to ever like this ride. They feel like something has been taken from them and this will always be a bitter reminder of that, so when they have negative opinions of the ride I'm just like, "Duh". The discourse around the ride has been downright toxic and that's before bringing up the hateful racist portion of the detractors (Fullblown racists meltdowns all over Twitter. Sad and hilarious at the same time).
I never had an emotional attachment to Splash. One of my least favorite of the big attractions and having been given a tape of the movie as a kid I ejected it before the end credits, so I'm on the other side of the fence. I'm glad that this ride exists and I think it looks cool. Going in November to ride it so I'll reserve judgement until then but I like what I've seen.
Gina Carano & others like JK Rowling (ie, non-male, black/non-white, non-straight/LGBTQ, etc, people who don't toe the political line) makes words like "racist" or "transphobe," etc, etc, in the 2020s mean mainly non-leftist.
I only saw Song of the South last year. Felt obliged to do so. Tell us all... what was it you saw that compelled you to 'eject' the tape?

Tiana's is fake and not real. Splash Mountain is alive and well and I'll be enjoying Splash Mountain at WDW for its 75th in 2046 and at Disneyland for its centennial in 2055.
